Just wanted to point something out. People were debating whether or not MC:S will get online multi-player. despite the ferrari gt fiasco, Asphalt 5 shipped with real online multiplayer today and it works very well for what it's worth..
I have to say I was a little bit underwhelmed, too. But I have to give credit, because it is a pretty ballsy move on ngmoco's part to release the game for free, given that DLC is an unproven business model on the iPhone. I also hope the costs of maintaining a worldwide server network don't sink the company. I have no idea how many servers they're running, but it probably numbers in the hundreds or even thousands. If the developers can fix the controls and framerate the game will be a lot better. Multiplayer mode is reasonably fun. Unfortunately, the game is slow and jerky on my 1g iPhone compared to other games. Of course it's fine on the 3GS. It's just that other games with more impressive graphics, such as Real Racing and Modern Combat, also appear to have better frame rates. Maybe the networking code and/or AI code is placing too much burden on the system?
I wouldn't say I was disappointed as much as I would say that it needs further tweaking. The controls were not as fluid as I hoped it would be, and perhaps less fluid than it looked on the gameplay video. Some button layouts just don't seem right for me, the most annoying one being the zoom right in the middle, so when I try to swipe to look around, I hit the zoom on accident, and end up dying. The potential is definitely there for this to be a success, and it probably is already a success. The energy refills and restoration is kinda unfavorable, but may be beneficial to the devs as well as a control for the players. Other than that, this game is an impressive piece of work, and with some fine-tuning, could very well live up to its hype.
Controls are pretty good for me. The zoom only functions with a tap... so I dunno why swiping would activate it. I hope the people complaining are keeping in mind the fact you can upgrade your gear to give you faster movement, higher jumps etc... the default stuff is supposed to be a little crappy otherwise having upgrades would be pointless.
To all those complaining about the tap to zoom button in the center, you can turn that off in the options menu. I do have a few complaints about the game though; I really wish the framerate and controls were more fluid, but i think part of the reason the controls aren't fluid is because of the framerate. Now, for the energy system: I think it would be a lot better if it was just for leveling up, instead of for credits AND leveling up, and if recharging took a shorter amount of time to recharge (IMO, 2 hours at the most).
I have to agree with all of the others. I've played eliminate for around an hour and I just can't get into it because the controls ruin the entire experience. Half the time I try to strafe or aim at an enemy I end up awkwardly moving into or staring at the walls. Why would ngmoco release this game with untweaked controls? God.. I hope that Nova has online play. It will blow this game out of the water. One positive note: I love the upgrading and leveling system. But seriously, who will pay the, what.. 29.99 USD, for an absurdly large amount of credits? I think ngmoco might have went a little overboard with that one.
I don't know about you guys, but that just about proves it to me. MC will most definitely get a multiplayer update. Now I'm getting excited.
After finally getting to play Eliminate, I have to say it's pretty impressive for what it is. Granted there aren't any other online FPS games out right now (iFPS doesn't count). I do agree with some people's complaints about the controls though. My main gripe is the constant shifting to the right for no apparent reason. It happens during every match, and is EXTREMELY irritating, especially when it causes you to get killed. There are other things about the controls that need some tweaking, along with some things about the game in general (recharge time, energy prices, etc.), but overall, it's pretty fun so far.
I'm not sure about the level of depth of MC:S multiplayer even if it's gonna get one... Would be nice if it features the good bits (levelling and stuffs) from CoD 4/5, but I doubt that's gonna happen =/
disappointing? i dunno, it's free, but yeah, the right stick is causing me fits. instead of a mouse-type touch area, make it more joystick-like so that if i push left, i continue to turn left. that's my biggest gripe. the swipe-to-spin thing never just turns me left or right, it always moves my view up or down also, and that makes me dead if i'm trying to shoot at someone behind me. gimmie the option to make the right stick a stick and not a mouse and i'll be happy.
Eliminates biggest problem is that is sitting next to Doom classic on my iphone! Which means that I didn't even use the initial energy I was given before picking up doom again. I just wasn't having fun. I was just as bored killing as I was getting killed. But, for people who love FPS death matches, I'm sure it's fun. The game itself seems well done, if a little bland. But I'm only interested in multi player if it's co-op missions; death matches in small arenas bore me.
There should be really a chance to adjust the size and position of the D-pad. It's so large that thumb takes a very large space from the screen.
Having played ifps online (alot) and Modern Combat, i can tell you i´m loving Eliminate. I think the controls are awesome for online play, and will reward you if you train. They do need some tweaking though (the going to right thing) I reckon people that keep getting owned will say the controls suck - it was the same with ifps lol Advices: turn on auto-shoot turn sensivity to max turn off zoom (gets in the way on frantic action) shoot to the head upgrade weapons Bang. Perfect.
The controls aren't that good. They could be worse, but they are not very accurate and all. Shooting and jumping at the same time is very hard, because the finger has to be moved very fast back and forth. It's really, REALLY hard to make actully good-working controls on the iDevices for FPS games. And I've won easily over 8 out of ten matches, and losing is almost all the time because I've been thrown into a game that ends after 5-60 seconds I get there. I think they should improve it so that you can only join to a game that's been running for x minutes (if there are none, then any game). EDIT: But the game is still quite good, even though I hate the energy recharge time. I've lost my energy once, and the replenish time was about 230 minutes. Is this usual?
Having played fps games on DS and PSP, i think the iphone is more suited for these kind of games, with controls like the ones in eliminate. But, like i said, training is needed. And also tweaking the settings. agreed...that´s the big one, and there´s not much to do...but i really don´t see alot of point in jumping but everything else works ok for me
Woot Sry guys, i think this game is absolutly A.W.E.S.O.M.E, the graphics are great, i love the controls, gives like a special feel of... hmm... i don't know, being pro? i don't know if it's because i own unbelievably much at this game that i think it's so good, might be... but this entertains me like hell! DAMN! it's goood sorry to disapoint you in joining ur eli-hater-group no offense..
it isn't even like a mouse at all either. when you swipe your mouse to the side and stop, your screen doesn't continue floating around in awkward directions. if anything it's more like a broken trackball controller with food crumbs clogging up the internals.
Eliminate is OK... It's the first FPS I've played on the iPhone. The controls take some time to get used to, and playing this in a small screen makes it kind of difficult. I would've preferred this to be a 9.99 game with unlimited online play instead of paying for energy or wait 4 hours... It's kind of like the arcade (which is outdated and everyone now pays a flat fee to play unlimited at home). They should have only use DLC for extras like special armor or weapons.
