Heavy grinding, energy system, online only, despite being single player, unfinished endgame touches, lottery system... all for a premiumly priced game. Seems more like free to play evil to me... And even they are bothered by the "online only" complainers and they strategically made another thread for that only, so I persume negative comments appear here less. By the way the concept and execution is too similar to Ever Oasis in 3DS, just replace the "seeds" there with "eggs". Things have to be said honestly sometimes, I think this will go in a price reduction in near future, given the stubborn obliviousness to the issues. Sad.
Are you referring to the egg map placement? That's taken straight out of Legend of Mana on PS1, which many of this developer's team also worked on.
Yeah, that online only thing is definitely going to keep me from buying it. If they decide to remove it, I'll reconsider though.
Actually, what I find sad are comments like this. Free to play is "evil" (and I hate using that term in the context of entertainment) because it isn't free -- all the timers and energy systems and difficulty spikes are calibrated to extract money from you. In many ways, Egglia is the opposite: it uses waiting as a way to create a gameplay rhythm, then gives you the tools to shape it however you want -- all without asking for a single additional dime. Ultimately, what you get is a gorgeously illustrated, beautifully written RPG that is dense with content and gameplay mechanics. Sure, some aspects are repetitive, but there is always something new in the horizon. But of course you wouldn't know that, since you have chosen not to play the game. I understand if you prefer your single-player games to be offline. But to turn that preference into some kind morality play is silly. Egglia is a lovingly made game, and it deserves better than that.
While Im not a fan of timers and stuff, I look at it this way. If this had been a F2P game, all of those features would probably have been a lot more aggressive. So to play the game with any level of enjoyment may have cost way more than $9.99. Regardless, the level of polish, artwork, writing and music is all top notch. The game may not have quite hit my (too high) expectations due to repetitiveness and not much of an overarching story. That said, Im enjoying it and dont regret my purchase.
This. I wouldn't be surprised if their next game IS free 2 play, since so many refuse to buy it because it's online only.
Ok finally figured out the lottery / friend thing. I'll go through the thread and start adding friends. I'm E903645367230 This has been a fun game so far! I'm barely level 13 and just popping in for about 30 minutes in the evenings. Would've been nice to play on the plane today though, hehe.
Can someone help me out. I played the game twice then it wouldn't let me play and keeps saying it's not downloaded. Now every time I try to download it says it can't. I've deleted once and it still won't install.
Is there a use for the gems you grow from seeds other then selling them for gold? Cause yeah I just sell them lol
Is TA doing a review for this game? Only two reviews so far, one gives 5/10 (Pocketgamer) and the other gives it a 9/10 (Gamezebo).
gamezebo gave layton mystery journey 2.5 star and one of the complaints was "to much dialogue" which is funny because i think this game has just as much dialogue
Both of those sites suck, especially for RPGs. Shaun is the only one I trust for mobile reviews in this genre. But I know he only has so much time.
To be fair, while 2.5 is too low, I feel Shaun overrated that one. It's by far the weakest in the series.
Yes, we will be doing a review of Egglia. As someone mentioned, I only have so much time and I'm trying to get to things in order. Writing this one up is next on my agenda.
They're used to evolve your spirits once they reach max level. It takes awhile to get to that point, but getting enough gems for each spirit type is also sort of challenging, so if you plan to level a ton you may want to save some.
I don't feel he overrated that one at all. And whether or not the game is the weakest in the series doesn't change an opinion that it's a really good game.
