The game is basically an homage to Rogue Squadron, so...yeah.

Yep, you're right. Stupid me, I wasn't even using them correctly. I didn't realize you needed to hold the button down until you got a missile lock, I was just pressing the button and since nothing was happening, I thought I had no missiles. Mea culpa. I'm going to edit my post and get rid of my angry little rant. Now that I actually know how to play the game (LOL!) I definitely recommend it. It's pretty awesome.

I'm really liking this. They fixed all the problems I had with the first one. Ship handles much faster now and they added an auto aim option. Seems to be quite a bit of content. Wish the second campaign was included, but I'll probably end up buying it.

Yeah, this plays great with a MFi controller, definitely worth the asking price. I also bought the second campaign and the F22 Assualt Fighter, I figured it would be easier with the best ship on the harder difficult settings. Especially since I'm not the best. :D

This sounds great, Alpha Squadron 1 was pretty good, this sounds even better. I'll be buying this later this week

Of course, that's what the devs were going for. It is an obvious homage to Rogue Squadron.

So is it F2P-designed in the end or not?

Ok, not F2P, thanks. Does anyone know if it works on a 4S without crashes? It's in the limit of RAM... EDIT: finally took the risk. It seems to work very well, but haven't been able to test it nearly. Will try more thoroughly in a few hours :D

    Hi all,

As I played Rogue squadron for many many many hours I felt the need to give this game a try. I don't even know where to begin. Let me just say first if you loved rogue squadron and have about $10 I would just buy it. You will absolutely love it.

Let's just go over the negatives quickly. The game is geared where you do not have to spend anymore money than the initial price to enjoy and finish the first campaign and you have access to the dogfight modes as well as the survival mode. If you are happy with this then you are all good. To get the full enjoyment out of the game however, you will want to spend $1.99 for the F22 interceptor. It has plenty of missiles and bombs as well as it can target multiple targets simultaneously. You cannot get this fighter without purchasing it. This is a negative. Secondly you only get campaign 1 with the initial purchase. In Order to play the second campaign you must pay another 2.99 for it. For me since I am enjoying the game I decided to purchase it. However it's a negative because this second campaign has been active since release. This is a negative. If it was ready to be released on day 1 it should have been included. These are the only negatives. If you can get past this then read on.

    Campaigns and game modes.
You have campaign 1 which is a story line mode with many levels that unlock as you beat the previous level. There is a lot of awesome voice overs and excellent mission briefings. There is a dog fight mode where you play a set of levels fighting between enemy fighters and ships. Each level has objective and necessary kill rates. You unlock the next level by defeating the previous. The last game mode is survival. As implied you continuously get attacked by every type of enemy ship or fighter and the objective is to go as far as you can.

    Graphics and gameplay.
The graphics really are top notch and appear HD even on the IPhone 5s screen. I've notice no crashes or lag even during my very intense moments. The graphics are very crisp and you can see a lot of detail in everything. You get a certain number of lives to complete the level. When you die you will spawn near where you died. After you exhaust your lives you must restart the level. As I said previously the combat can get intense and you will get ground and air targets simultaneously as well as many different missions such as protecting and escort duties. I think they took a lot of time to really plan things out. And the voice acting definitely is a nice touch. The gameplay is fun! Lastly during missions you get several wingmen and you can order them to attack a target, attack everything, form up on your six, or defend you.

    Controls.
There are control schemes to fit anyone's play style. You can use an MFI controller or you can use the accelerometer to steer and on screen buttons for speed and weapons. Lastly you can use an on screen analog joystick and buttons for speed and weapons. I chose the on screen joystick. In the menus you can calibrate the accelerometer and have auto leveling. Also invert the up and down movement as well as there is a slider to change the sensitivity of the physical or on screen joystick. When playing a level hit the pause button and there is a calibration option that works instantly. The controls I have to say are spot on. I am having a lot of fun with the on screen joystick and buttons. Everything is very responsive.

In conclusion the game absolutely has a Star Wars vibe. It's a great vibe. It's a great game.

I came here to say more or less the same, but I wouldn't have said it so well.

I've just played tutorials + mission 1, and to Billy's post I'd just add the following:

    - The game also has an X-Wing feel to it, specially when playing in the inside view cam. You can pan around the cabin by dragging the finger around from the middle screen.

    - It is really a $10 game: $5 entry point (app purchase) + $5 for the IAP's Billy mentions (a bit more if you want all the ships). You don't need any more. Oh, and it's NOT F2P, although it has IAP's.

    - The game works flawlessly on my iPhone 4S. I'm not sure if it's fully hi-res or not, but it looks fantastic and runs very smooth. I even got a phone call while I was playing tutorial mission 3 and when I returned to the game, it didn't crash and continued exactly where I had left it.

That's all. I was looking for a Rogue Squadron alternative for iOS lately. This is it. I love it (and flying low and in between the buildings found in mission 1 was truly amazing :)).

After playing a lot more, I have to add:

    - Missions have primary objectives, but you also have secondary objectives. Click the pause button and you can see them. For example, mission 1 in campaign 1 has the secondary objective of destroying the supply train. Of course, you have to find it by free roaming the level, since there's no indicator of where to go. This adds to the fact that you get a bonus if you finish the mission under a certain time, so it's quite challenging.

    - Missions can be finished with different medals. I've achieved a lot of bronze and 2-3 silver, so I guess there's gold too. Haven't achieved any yet though.

    - Survival mode has a limited amount of waves (4-5 I think). After you've done those, you're finished with that mode. It also seems to take place always in the same scenery (space), so IMO it's the weakest mode of all.

    - Settings don't get saved between gaming sessions, at least for me. I have to set touch controls every single time I enter the game. Not too much trouble, but it would be nice if settings were saved (language is saved though).

    - The swipe to avoid lock-on missiles doesn't always register correctly. If any devs are reading this, I'd appreciate the option of having two small buttons for left/right barrel roll on top of the control stick on screen, or a button on the right side which you can keep pressed while turning to perform the barrel roll. They don't need to be very big, just enough to give another option instead of swipe, which doesn't register too well (in fact, on the 4S it registers way better than on my iPad 3, where performing a barrel roll is nearly impossible).

All in all, I'm extremely happy with my purchase. It brings good memories from when I played Rogue Squadron on PC a lot of years ago, and it's an identical game gameplay wise.

How does this game fit on the iphone 6+? I'm sure it runs, but does it play well on it? i rather not use my ipad for these type of games.

I'm more comfortable playing on my 4S than on my iPad. The iPad is way too big for me to hold and play holding it like a controller. Since the 6+ is somewhere in between, I think it should play okay.

This part is the reason why i will not buy the game and i'm pretty sure i'm not the only one. Ask your price and give the full package. This system will prove to cost the devs a lot of income in the end...

The games well worth supporting though

But its funny, if the game was $10 you probably wouldnt moan. But the games $5 with about $5 for a one off IAP.

I think its a good system for people as they can see if they really do like it before unlocking the rest.

Just think of the game as being a one off $10 !
