http://www.earthhour.org/ Turn your lights of for 1 hour. We can all help by doing this simple task. I'm gonna be offline once it hits my timezone, you should too.
Oh they're doing this again? It seemed to be much better publicised last time... Better go out and buy some candles! And make sure my itouch is fully charged for 8pm
It seems kinda pointless and not very effective. It would probably be better (in the long term) if one power station closed down (which happens pretty much all the time).
That guy is great, I agree with all of what he says. Earth is in control, shit goes down all the time without us being in control. Humans are too arrogant. And things change all the time, planet Earth will be destroyed some day, so let's enjoy it while we have it.
You completely missed the point, but I don't blame you, most people do. The point of Earth hour isn't that getting people to turn of their lights for an hour is going to save loads of energy or anything. It's supposed to be a 'vote' of sorts, turning off your lights shows your support for the cause
Apparently we're going to run out of water long before we run out of fossil fuels. Within the next 20 years we'll require 50% more water than we do now, which is 40% more than can currently be sustainably supplied. Of course we'll be alright, it's the poorer countries that'll suffer first. By 2030 most third world countries will have to survive on half of what they do now, which we all know isn't really possible. Most of the problem is agricultural methods though, which accounts for 70% of the water supply, industrial uses 16% which leaves 14% (or less, if there are other factors I'm missing) which is down to us. Looks like we're all gonna have to go on a diet... if we stop wasting the food the farmers won't have to grow as much.
Ok, I missed the point. Nevertheless, the fear of global warming is BS and the little acts against it are futile and pointless IMO. Things like this happen all the time. Just look at the planet's history. It is not the fault of humans. I believe that it is just earth deciding to change (like it has done many times in the past). It is just unfortunate that we humans may exist in the time of change. But we cannot do anything about it. I suggest you watch the video that Kamazar posted:
Yea I agree the fear of Climate Change is silly, but that doesn't mean all green projects are silly. Like alternative fuels aren't just because of carbon emissions, it's also because fossil fuels are going to run out sooner or later, and we all hate the price of petrol these days. But I'll watch the video later anyway, not exactly in the right environment to be watching it right now
That's the one thing I support whole-heartedly: alternative energy, along with desalination plants. Shutting off lights only prolongs the inevitable, but if we had a constant flow of energy, than we'd have waaay fewer problems, and less excuses for war. It'd also shut the hippies up since we'd be cutting our emissions in at least half. What Carline talks about is effecting the Earth in the long run. If you'll take a look at most of the problems we have today, they screw us over severely to nearly the point of extinction. The environment will survive, since it's not as high-maintenance.
Haha very true. Maybe if us lot in England don't turn off our lights, we can get some better weather.
My lights/tv/everything non essential will be off, and I'll be sure to glare at the fridge if it makes any noises.
