I just can't understand, why? http://techcrunch.com/2011/06/22/popcap-games-to-be-acquired-for-1-billion/
Is EA planning to dethrone Gameloft or something? I mean, first Chillingo, then Firemint, and now POPCAP?!
My guess is EA wants them more for the web based (facebook) games than anything to do with the app store. Still 1 Billion is a lot it's hard to see how they can make it back especially with facebook in decline they must have some plan in the works though.
I daresay it will in any case. You know, bla bla corporate identity, bla corporate philosophy bla bla... When EA takes over other companies, they usually let them dance after their tune.
But seriously guys.... Don't you think its the dream of every company to get 1 billion dollar??? Look on the bright side: Popcap now has enough money to invest in even more intersting games.
NOOO EA IS GOING TO CHANGE THEY'RE GAMES JUST LIKE EVERY SINGLE OTHER COMPANY THEYVE BOUGHT RIGHT!?!?!?!!!l!!?
I don't know why people are complaining. Electronic Arts is known to not only develop games, but also PUBLISH other developer's games as well. No recent acquisition in EA has resulted in them completely taking over the smaller company's game developments. EA gives all their acquisitions a high level of autonomy, and it's not like they have a terrible track record to begin with. While their earlier games weren't too appealing to me, they have multiple standouts recently and their lineup is only going to get better with what they previewed would be released in the future. So what's all the complaining about?
WHAT THE F**K!!!!!!! I hardly ever swear, but WTF? POPCAP are one of, if not my favourite casual developer. Almost everything ea touch turns to s**t! Edit: Alright I've calmed down a bit, and this could either work out well for both popcap and the consumers, or end up as POPCAP making freemium farmfests with shit-loads of IAP and existing franchises being milked to death.
EA to purchase Popcap Games for $1 billion? According to TechCrunch, Popcap (PvZ, Peggle, Bejeweled, etc.) has been purchased by EA for $1 billion - an unbelievable number for a casual game developer. Maybe now we'll finally get Zuma ported http://techcrunch.com/2011/06/22/popcap-games-to-be-acquired-for-1-billion/
It doesn't seem so unbelieveable to me. They've been riding the casual game wave for over 10 years now and such games have completely boomed with popularity these past few years. Who hasn't heard of Bejeweled?
