Ok, thanks for showing me that. I didn't know about that game. From the screenshots it looks like it has a different kind of feel compared to Honey Tribe.

Typical though - you spend a lot of time and effort working on a game. And then right before you release, something similar pops up on the app store

I'll download it and see how it plays but I'm pretty confident that our game has a different appeal.

Looks like the Tiny Wings shading style is getting reproduced more often now.

I downloaded that game to see what it's like. The graphics are nice but I'm not worried about it being 'competition' for our game. Ours has a different appeal and I would say more depth too because of the story, concept and factual parts. And it's more fun! Not that I'm in any way biased of course.

On a side note, don't you just hate it when you think you're almost ready for release and then 1 thing after another tells you you're not. And then today my HD died. The day before my external back up drive is due to arrive. I blame that guy Sod and his stupid law.

I just uploaded Honey Tribe to Apple. It's now waiting to be reviewed. It's our first app so quite excited... :)

For those who were interested in Honey Tribe, here's an update of how the response from websites has been so far, having been out nearly a week now.

AppAdvice gave us a really good review - 4.5 stars
We also got a good review on 148apps - 4 stars
iLounge gave us a 'B' so I'll translate that as 4 stars.

We've also had brief write-ups on TA, Guardian.co.uk PocketGamer and Appolicious.

We didn't make the front page new and noteworthy on itunes but did make it into the US (and Canada and Mexico) games new and notewworthy.

Also a few things on smaller sites and non-English sites. Including one in Hebrew!

As this is our first app I'm expecting it to be the hardest to promote. Naturally I'll continue emailing places asking them to review us. Hopefully it will get a bit easier as we go along.

We're releasing the first update very soon and then a lite version in a few weeks. So they should both help generate some more interest.

Overall I'm pleased that reviewers have found it fun, easy to play and graphically and sonically impressive. It's also good that some of them are picking up on the factual/educational aspect.

Use the links below if you want to play Honey Tribe for yourself!

    Pocket Gamer Review

Just saw that we're on the front page of Pocket Gamer today. They gave us a great review! Which really turned my mood around today (after haplessly fumbling around on my own trying to film decent new gameplay footage)

Read the full review here: http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/Honey+Tribe%3A+Colony+Collapse/review.asp?c=31941

    Excerpt:
"Honey Tribe: Colony Collapse is not only a remarkably endearing little game, but it's also incredibly addictive. It's quite easy to get distracted by the simplicity of the gameplay and the sweet chirrup of the soundtrack, only to discover that you've lost an hour or two in Corbee's company."

So the other day I got some advice from a friend who works in PR. So now I have a revised strategy. I'll let you all know if it works out. The lite and v1.1 versions of Honey Tribe will be soon so I'll be doing my best to get the main iOS sites to post about it on the same day.
