Actually, you already did post the first move (bottom of page 11 in this thread). I feel obligated to confess (since I just passed poor Roger on GameCenter - I'm ToolGuy3) that I used both that hint plus the additional hint on page 12.
Right, totally forgot about that... I only remembered posting the one about the shape, on page 12. =) Thanks for letting us know your GC id. Since I'm keeping an eye on the top players, it's great to know who's who!
No, thank you for providing me with many hours of enjoyment, plus I believe that you have raised my spatial reasoning IQ by 25 points. Just finished X3 in about a minute it just came to me in a flash. I think that is probably a sign that I've spent way too much time on Dwelp in the last week -- all the patterns are stuck in my mind. Just solved X4 (but not purpled ... yet). I know that I'm not going to get anything else done until I get it plus X5 and X6. Please take your time before you release any more levels I need some time to catch up on the rest of my life, especially my "honey do" list. My wife is about to kill me because she practically has to throw a brick to get my attention.
Hint for Dwelp level 90 "D is for Dwelp" Does anyone have a hint for the opening move on this level? This is the last level that I need to finish in the optimal number of moves and it's driving me crazy! (BTW... great game! More levels please!)
Yup ... 90 "D is for Dwelp" stumped me for a long time. I think I spent more time on "purpling" 68, 77 and 90 than on the rest of the first 100 altogether. Using Alex's chessboard notation, try: Spoiler D5 to E5 The colors of the first four moves are: Spoiler Blue, Blue, Yellow, Yellow
Got It, finally got the X2, great and it's so obvious when you finally see it, but that is what makes this game great, now I am gonna try X4,5 and 6 tomorrow. Thanks for the tips Alex.
Thx. Just purpled it. I don't know how I missed that, but it's always "obvious" after you solve it. LOL! Thanks Roger-NL!
Well done, guys!! I definitely don't want Dwelp to become a reason of frustration for people not playing it. =) So please send your wife my apologies and assure her that there won't be any new puzzles till January. Sorry, dmac1024, but I don't want to be found guilty for ruining Steve's marriage... =) Kidding! Even if I wanted to release an update now, with the App Store freeze and all it would be pretty hard to do. But you should expect some 25 new puzzles in January.
Happy Camper - all 106 Purpled Just finished X6 and I couldn't be happier. What a great game! I love the "AHA" moments when you finally see the one critical move, and then it all comes together. Great job Alex. Overall, I think the progression from the easy/learning stages to the difficult ones was about right. But, FWIW, if you ever decide to rejigger the order based on user feedback, I thought the most difficult of the base 100 were 68 and 90. Of course, that could just be my own unique blind spots. YMMV. Conversely, for me anyway, X3 wasn't at all worthy of the extra hard label. The arrangement of the "empty spots" seemed to dictate a very small number of possible moves that could be used. Again, YMMV. Admittedly, we all seem to have different blind spots, so my experience may not be representative. I only mentioned it because you had earlier said that you spent a lot of time trying to fine tune the difficulty progression, so perhaps a little more feedback will be useful. I did notice that the GC achievement points don't seem to be working quite right. I did not receive either the 50 points for completing the Xtra hard levels or the 50 additional points for "purpling" them. I have completed all 106 levels plus the 9 bonus puzzles, but I have not yet done #77 in 15 moves, if that makes a difference. The leaderboard does seem to be correct because it shows me as have 556 points which is what I believe is right if I understand your scoring system correctly. Please don't take any of my comments as complaints or criticism. I'm merely trying to give useful (hopefully) feedback to an obviously conscientious developer. Again, thanks for a great game.
The first few levels will teach you everything you need to know in easy steps, but in a nutshell: Move one colored piece to a blank space adjacent to one (or more) of the same colored piece(s). The new (like-colored) pieces are now a fixed grouping and must be moved as a unit to an open set of blank spaces (of the identical shape and number) next to another piece (or pieces) of identical color. Repeat until all pieces (and all different colors) are connected. It's actually much less complicated than I made it sound -- at least in the easier stages. In the harder stages, it is almost like chess in that you have to think several moves ahead in order to make sure you have enough room to move the pieces around. It's a great game and well worth the small price. No nasty "In App Purchase" BS or anything. Highly recommended for any puzzle lovers that enjoy using logic and 2D spatial reasoning.
Thanks a lot for your kind words, Steve! I take your comments as they were intended - honest feedback - and appreciate them a lot. Thanks also for explaining to hunterextremb how the game works! Congratulations on getting the best score! To my knowledge, you are one of the four players in the world who have achieved that so far! Well done! To answer some of your queries: Not sure how others found Nos. 68, 90 and 100, but indeed, X3 was the easiest of the hard puzzles and everyone here has solved it first. However, reordering the puzzles in a future update is not in my plans, as it would probably lead to a lot of confusion. And, as you have said, everyone has their own blind spots... There is an issue with submitting the achievements for the X puzzles in this version. I have already fixed it and they will show up in the coming update. Thanks for pointing it out! @hunterextremb Steve has summarised the gameplay pretty well. If you are still on the fence, try to look up Dwelp on YouTube and you will find a few gameplay videos for the earlier puzzles.
New levels Hey Alex! How are you doing this developing new levels? Just curious - is it somewhat automated? You are doing a great job! Keep on going! Cheers Daniel PS. You might want to add a "Rate this game" teaser - at least in Germany for the last version there are not enough rating to be displayed which is a real pity. eg check out: https://medium.com/circa/the-right-way-to-ask-users-to-review-your-app-9a32fd604fca
Hey Daniel, Thanks for the kind words and for the suggestion about the teaser! I did add a rate request in one of the puzzles' text bubble (I think it was No. 46). I wanted it to be as unobtrusive as possible, as I find the regular popups pretty annoying. However, based on past experiences, I think the amount of ratings given for Dwelp (out of the total number of players) is pretty high. Thanks anyway! For creating the puzzles, I have built a puzzle designer for myself. Nothing fancy, but I can place dots and "holes" on the map and then play the resulting puzzle. There are a couple of ways I go about creating them. Sometimes I start with a final shape (or multiple colors) and work back to the first position, trying to decompose them. With others, I just play with dots, placing them in a nice (and most of the time symmetrical) pattern. Then I run the puzzle through the algorithm that tries to solve it, and if it tells me that it's doable, I attempt to solve it myself. Depending on how hard or easy I find it, I then try to make it either more complex by adding more dots or more "holes" or by removing some. Hope this satisfies your curiosity, at least a bit... =)
Hi there I am back and now I wanna finish the whole game. Checked out the color blind mode, it's very nice from the Dev. too ad this mode, I am not color blind myself, but have not so good eyes as most people, but I see enough to play games and watch T.V.
Third time is the charm (3x is scheepsrecht)! There are loads of tips in this thread and don't be shy asking for more
