Well with the dev handing out codes like candy I figured I would buy it - somebody better! Gotta say I'm enjoying it - just what I was hoping for... has the random nature of risk/reward and is indeed like an odd 8 bit version of Dungelot. GFX are really well done... I like the retro look with the addition of more modern effects giving it that murky unusual look. Beating the game is not tough on easy but at medium it takes a good and lucky run... that's what I like about this game. Some runs you'll limp along and not find very helpful items... other times you'll find a load of armor and find lucky escapes with a bomb... Pretty well done. I also put up a plug about this in the Dungelot 2 thread... Figured those guys would appreciate it. Plus I learned you don't want to smack the old man at the shop. ;-)
Thanks MasonHurst!!! If you like the game now, you'll love it when I'm finished with the content update I'm currently slaving away at - which basically makes everything better (and harder) Cheers
Wow I can't wait... just make sure easy and medium aren't too tough for us "relaxed" players. Feel free to ramp up the hard settings though. ;-) Plus you got a great review over here... hope that will help keep it visible with the constant torrent of new releases. Looking forward to the update... it's a stylish piece of software.
DUNGEONy version 2.0 out today! The DUNGEONy update (2.0) is now available for download! What's new in this version: Fog Undead tree tile Spikes Boomerang - throw it to get items from a distance (swipe to use) Pink flaming skull Pink slime Skeleton key Harder overall difficulty/better strategic element Teleporter tiles Random mobs spawn during level sometimes, in a poof of smoke Fancy theme font at the beginning of each world Vary spawn direction of mobs Less cropped iPad screen New playable character: Grizzly (hard) New playable character: Skelly (unlucky) Forest levels in the Jungle Additional alternate Castle music Tutorial with own music New tiles Small levels Oni is now gold - and spawns harder enemies Oni also has a slightly stronger attack Attack animations for some enemies More level types to Temple Hints (toggle on from the pause menu) Falling leaves in Jungle levels Adjustment to some player stats Players now have unique 'critical hit' accuracies Player now uses more stamina when killing mobs (this is scaled based on character difficulty) More sounds Player will now pathfind up to mob if you tap mob itself (you no longer have to tap an empty tile beside it) Poison (player can be poisoned by some mobs - takes 1 damage per. 3 tiles - cured when leaving current level) Items now animate when collecting them Misc. notes: XP is a percentage Don't fight the old man Stay awake from blue snakes Thanks for updating!
Characters start with various HP and/or attack power. Their max. stamina starting stat varies. And their critical hit rate varies. Plus, some characters start with items, others don't. If you pause the game you can see these various stats. Thanks for asking
Really enjoying this, reminds me of a lot of 7DRLs, but this one has more depth than most of those. Is there anyway you could outline in game what exactly differentiates characters? Like stat info. That would be much appreciated. Also, how do you use a boomerang?
Thanks JCho! You swipe in a direction to use the boomerang. It can't attack, it only collects loot. So, if you see a health item (or any item) a couple tiles away, but don't want to fight the 1-2 enemies blocking it, you can toss the boomerang over their heads and collect it. It only goes 3 tiles though.
Has there ever been a more feature packed update... ever? That's a hell of a laundry list and I'm digging the game all over again. The extra music tracks and SFX are mucho appreciated. Along with everything else of course... I'd get exhausted trying to list it all. ;-)
Hey korigame, do you have any idea what direction you're going to take with fat dungeon? Do you think it will be a bit more complex than dungeony, like Cardinal Quest? Or a bit simpler, like something like Zaga-33?
You're quick! It will be both simpler AND more complex I'll start a forum in a few days for the game where I'll share more details. Super cool of you to be following up on this so soon though, cheers.
Well I've been following you on Twitter a little bit (not to be creepy) And ooo! Ambiguity! Looking forward to hearing more on it, few things whet my pallet like a neat little dungeon crawler. The new screen looks great btw
Crap, didn't realize the game didn't save play sessions when you close the app, oh well. Also, what the heck?
Yeah, that's the main reason I haven't bought it. Someone brought this up earlier and it doesn't sound like it will be changing. Need my bite sized pieces!
JCho133 - Yup, no saves. Win or Die is the game haha, that's a new level from the recent big update. I wanted to mix things up and add some smaller level layouts - I believe that is the smallest of them.
I really like this game, very polished and incredibly enjoyable. I don't mind dying as I like how it keeps stats, deaths and total time played.
