"DUNGEONy™ is an arcade, puzzle-like dungeon crawler with random roguelike elements." *** Featured on the App Store under 'Best New Games' *** "A deceptively tactical roguelike RPG that offers an immediate yet considered dungeon-crawling experience" - Pocket Gamer The game features Perma Death, RPG elements (level up your attack + stamina), Turn-based attacks, Random enemy spawns and loot drops, Multiple themed dungeons, Random 'Special' levels with unique elements, shops, BOMBS! and more. There are 9 playable characters, each with their own difficulty; over 30 different enemies; and 4 themes of dungeon: The Castle, The Jungle, The Sewers, and The Temple. At the end of 32 levels, you square off against a formidable teleporting boss. Don't be surprised if you die a lot figuring out what to do; retro games are light on hand-holding, so you'll find little tutorialization here. DUNGEONy™ draws great re-play value from a mixture of character difficulty and random gameplay. DUNGEONy™ was developed by a single individual - with music from Gas1312. (whatever those are). The music/sound are great chiptunes with obvious homages to Zelda right from the main menu. Tap to move. Enemies are stationary and don't respond to you until you attack them, that seems unusual but the labyrinth corridors trap you into combat so even if they don't chase you to warfare it still locks you in. Once battles start they seem to continue in automated turn based style without the ability to flee (or maybe I'm just not quick tapping enough). Difficulty level is tied to character class (ie Knight class is "easy" but Cyclops "medium"). So far enjoyable but more casual than expected... That is early impression. ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,000 113 #12 ste86uk, Jun 15, 2014 I'm not really into rougelike too much and certainly not arcade but I'll wait to see what opinions are like as I'm still intrigued. Be keeping my eye on this one! I has ridiculous backlog, but can't fully resist the Zelda meets NetHack'iness. db2 Well-Known Member Oct 13, 2011 157 2 18 Michigan, USA #16 db2, Jun 15, 2014 Game Impressions I've been enjoying it so far. It's fairly light for a roguelike; it reminds me of, say, Dungelot, or Desktop Dungeons, particularly because of the enemies being passive until you engage them. You have to be resourceful and careful about picking your battles, since you aren't going to be able to clear out every single floor. Sometimes you have to decide when it's better to just move on. The knight is labeled "Easy", but so far I've only just made it to the Temple floors. I have noticed a couple small things that may be bugs: 1. Sometimes the game will spawn an invisible enemy on the floor. It usually dies in one hit, and awards 5 XP. Typically, the bonus item for killing all enemies doesn't appear on that floor when this happens. 2. It seems like sometimes the game will spawn an enemy on top of another enemy. I've had skeletons turn into spiders when I kill them and other strange things like that. 3. The XP counter in the upper right doesn't correspond to the amount of XP reported when defeating an enemy. It seems like the total at the top of the screen is supposed to be a percentage of the next level's requirement, rather than the current total. As for the XP counter, it is a percentage as you surmised. And also - yes, easy is still not super easy. It's all relative Thanks for the feedback - really appreciate it! As long as nothing breaks the game entirely, so far I'm relieved! EDIT: A question to db2 if you have a moment: Concerning item no. 2 on your list, you say skeletons turn into spiders when you kill them; any chance you are killing the white eggs (not skeletons), which can spawn a spider sometimes. Certain items like pots, barrels, eggs, etc... will spawn loot or enemies just to mix things up. It would be great to find out more! I see the game tracks my score but I can't find my top scores recorded anywhere. Since each class has such varied difficulties I figure the scores should never be on a combined list (the Hard classes would probably never keep top spots). (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
