My favorite line from the game description in the App Store: "Monsters attacking in various patterns in meat, sea, and ball!" Well, sold!
Not sure what it is about this, but it just feels cheap. The pixel art is great, the flow of the game is not. I made it through the tutorial and started in on the game, dont really have a desire to continue. It controls well, but the gameplay is very... I dont know, generic / slow.
=P I'm really diggin this so far. I LOVE the metroidvania genre, though. =X I'm only about an hour in, but so far, the controls seem fine to me. I wasn't sure how it would feel when I first saw them (the up/down buttons overlapping the left/right buttons kind of worried me), but the up and down movement only happens when you're climbing. Another thing is that you automatically grab anything you can climb on, then the up/down movement 'activates'. You can also attack while hanging there, and I'm not sure, but I don't think you have to press the direction you want to attack in (you'll attack the enemy closest to you). You also don't have to lift your finger off the screen to change direction or move up and down, the controls are moveable (though you can't resize them), and there's a d-pad or a joystick. The upgrade system is nice - when you have enough gems to upgrade something, the 'stay' icon in the top right corner will get a little red dot on it. There's a map you can find fairly early on (about 30 minutes into the game - though I don't know how many areas there are or if you'll need to find more maps as you progress)... Enemies respawn when their 'spawn point' leaves the screen, so collecting gems to upgrade is fairly easy to farm anywhere in the game. The physics and inertia (all movement) both feel good while playing... Obviously I'm not far enough to give final opinions, but it's looking like a winner to me so far.
Nice! This kind of game seems to have appeared again. The game is a bit rough, but it looks a lot of digging.
Well its a mobile phone, play it on the phone ! Been playing more of this, really like it, so far so good. Can look past the bad english but i'm still stunned devs cant simply hire someone to check the text or even ask a friend
According to developer comments, there will be improvements to the controls, and poor translations are also in the works.
I would say — stick with it. I felt the same way after the tutorial, and then the game really opened up. Like a decent Metroidvania, DxD makes use of both obstacles and skill upgrades to gradually expand the playable environment, then gives you good reasons to explore every corner of it. There are cut scenes, varied enemies and objectives, complex levels, additional mechanics, and a simple but effective RPG system to keep you motivated. It is a little slow, but the frequent save points and hp-recovery bonuses keep you from playing it too safe, which does speed up the action. This feels like a true Metroidvania, and that’s a rare thing on mobile.
Hehe, agreed... Though indie devs have done an awesome job with the genre... I could list off quite a few indie titles that have become some of my favorites within the genre. =D
Great graphics style!! When I first saw the game graphics it remembered me of some Japanese arpgs released on the SNES I gonna try this one out for sure!
After the ending, the following contents did not seem to exist yet. When you clear the game and start over, it will be loaded into the last saved location. I have completed this game. This was great.
Sorry for my ignorance... Buuuut... What does holding the down button do? I turn blue... But that's about it...
I heard that this developer is currently looking for a professional translator for this game. I do not know yet how long it will take, but let's hope for the good news. But regardless of it, this gameplay itself is fine.
