What I mean is, have you gotten enough gold in a game to buy items without having to use gold you accumulated from other games (or got from watching ads)? My high score right now is about 275,000. I've not made more than a few hundred gold in a single game, including that one and my previous high of 250,000. I've not used an item/power-up yet, but I've no way of telling if others on the leaderboards have been watching ads to get items to reach higher scores, or they've done it without the "cheat." I like the basic idea of the game, but I find it a huge turn-off in these high-score chasers where you can either use IAPs or opt-in ads as a crutch. (I don't even like continues in exchange for opt-in ads). The games I stick to long-term are the ones where you earn your power-ups through playing well, not simply by watching an ad (or even accumulated time). I guess what I'm saying in a really overblown way is that I wish there was a separate leaderboard without the items. Or that the gold would be accumulated per game (no ads to earn gold, only skill), and then it's wiped clean (but items would probably have to cost less). The way the gold/items are treated right now dilute the game for me and make me less inclined to stick with it long-term.
Yes, I accumulated over 3k in one game last night. But yeah, it would be cool if you could only use gold earned in that game. Maybe that could be added as a separate mode (always starting with zero).
I just broke 1.5 million and it felt great, until I looked at the leaderboard and saw 149 million. So yeah, I would love that mode, as I didn't use any items for that score.
It really clicked now. Just got a high score of 2,219,000. Was recording, so I'll post the video when it uploads. I explained the game a bit, too (although some things are still a little fuzzy). Seriously, devs... Please consider a second mode where you can only use coins you earn that game, with its own leaderboard and no gold-for-ads. I agree with you 100% on this! If you want feel free to make this alternative mode an inexpensive IAP itself to go "Premium". I have serious issues with any highscore game that allows you to simply buy your score. The sad bit here though, is with the current pricing of items, I doubt you could buy any of the powerups within a single game's earnings.
Git gud, scrub, lol. Seriously, though, yes you can. As I said before, I got over 3k in a game last night. I SHOULD have used a power up when I realized I was done for, but I didn't.
I now have over 11,000 gold, but that doesn't change how I feel. It's an addictive game that I just wish was more pure.
Btw, can someone explain the use of the total swords at the top? Even when I have more up there than dragons, they're not used to reduce the number of dragons. That's the main thing that I've been confused about.
I would like the item button to not be center bottom but to a side you choose by having a left or right handed setting.
The number of swords reduces the number of dragons that have built up, but this only happens when making a sword match. It is still useful, though. Let's say you have 1000 swords and 200 dragons at the top. You slide the tiles adding another 200 dragons to the top but also match 2 5-point swords at the same time. You will end up with 610 swords and no dragons at the top, and your health will remain unchanged. Having a big stash of swords is helpful for absorbing 3 and 4-way matches of dragons, but you still have to actually match swords.
