It depends. I've put in 4-5 hours already and made it only to the 10th floor (of 16). It looks like the dev is planning to add more content.
The game´s length varies quite a bit. It´s not a large game, with our testers some have played it through in 4.5 hours... others have taken 8 (my wife, perfectionist). The length also depends on rng a lot on later levels.
Posting, posting, writing fingers bleeding Hi everyone, a little update from me... Most of the questions have been answered already by people on the forum. Thanks for all the questions and also for the answers! I've taken notes of confusions (f.ex. "is the stick a weapon"), thanks for the feedback also. I've sent this forum page to every person that has worked with the game in any way, and everyone has their week started with smiling faces. Today we have been posting press kits to all sites (including touch arcade, fingers crossed) hoping they catch and review the game for us to gain visibility. Any visibility is probably good for us trying to dig our way out of the swamp that is appstore. We also got our first 1star negative review today. Unfortunately apple does not allow, yet, to comment on reviews, so damage control is impossible. The opinion about difficulty of the first dungeon level seems to be divisive. Retrospectively, I think we should have made super easy first level. Live and learn. Also, we feel we are in big league now since the game was pirated yesterday! This was, of course, expected, but if the game is not pirated, then it´s not worth anything! Later, Aki
My 5-star App Store review... "Don't believe the one-star review. Disclosure, not a dev, nor know or related. This game is amazing, first off it is challenging and was in the same boat, but one huge tip, tap to attack, then move to avoid attack. Huge difference and strategy involved. Yes you start over when you die, but permanent upgrades assist you. Upgrades via "hero tails". Get it, well worth the price of admission. " Sadly people just don't give games a chance to really get the gameplay and understand it. Hopefully this helps.
Hi squarezero and sugimulm, I'm the coder (though not the only one that has worked on this project!) and you have my undying gratitude! And I can't thank the TA forum dwellers enough as this has been really uplifting to see our game entertaining you guys/gals. As I'll be glued to the computer the whole day I might as well be of some use to you and try answer any questions you might have, so fire away TA dwellers!
Dungeon Tails Short Gameplay Video Hi, If you are looking for gameplay video of Dungeon Tails. Check out the gameplay below Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel
I noticed in the graveyard area where it tells you about the creatures you killed, that when you tap on the gravestone, you can't scroll down to see the whole description. Only a minor bug, nothing game breaking.
Hi CrayonWarrior and thanks for the heads up! I sent you a PM as this is not something we encountered during playtest and even minor bugs gets my fingers twitching...
Thanks for making a charming and premium rogue-lite. I just purchased it and will provide impressions later.
This is why i love TA. Making an unknown game become known. A true gem. Congrats for the release devs!!!!!! You will excuse me but i will buy the game tommorrow as right now i have no money in my debit card and be sure to leave a positive appstore review. (Greek Appstore). Again really well done!!!!!
I did not see this mentioned. Or I missed it. Make sure to check those statues out every time you are back in town. I never realized the upgrade currency(tails) spawn there after killing new enemies. I went there and had like 8 of them. The game would have been much better in the beginning had I known that Awesome game and definitely recommend it to anyone on the fence. Can't add much more to what everyone else has said.
For anyone that does not know it if you quit and close the game in the background next time you enter the game you continue at the same room you left!!! Excellent work devs.
This game is a lot of fun. Great job with this. I like the mechanic of expanding the store to get better gear and the statues for killing enemies.
Short Dev Update Humongous thanks to everyone who has bought the game! Thanks for pointing out the vagueness of Hero Tails mechanic. Not noticing how they work is totally understandable... again, the lack of proper tutorial is a pain in the butt. Rambling about this week, maybe someone finds this interesting. This week we have sent over 60 presskits hoping someone will pick up and make a review. As a first time gamedev it´s very interesting to observe how the internet functions in relation to a game release. During the first 24 hours we received 3 request for codes. 2 of them introduced themselves as private individuals not having money and one was smaller site reviewing apps. It´s difficult to separate to whom we should send a code and to whom not. Although the rule of thumb seems to be, that those who contact us, might not be a good choice to spend a code. Of course there are exceptions, f.ex. we have managed to get visibility in Germany and France by people who contacted us, and are very grateful of this since none of us speak those languages. But the fact remains that apple offers 100 codes per version, and they run out fast in the vast infinity of internet. Those who we choose to send codes and presskits, will probly not even notice our emails because we don´t have direct contact to the main review site and/or youtubers. All we can do is hope to get lucky. Like what happened with this forum! This went longer than I thought, thanks for listening. Vote for us! -Aki
Ideally, you should begin engaging review sites BEFORE launch, including while the game is in development. Getting a game on reviewer's radar is critical to the commercial success of the game. It takes time / repetition to get reviewers to notice the game. Giving in-development updates gives sites multiple chances to feature your game. Don't waste for anyone to ask for a code - your pre-launch plan should include a list of popular sites/streamers you've identified and send them a code in advance. Take note of who responds and give them exclusives in the future. It takes time to review a game and ideally you want that review to land the same day that the game is launched. There is a 'wave' of popularity that all new games benefit from. You can magnify that wave by already having reviews/features lined up the same week the game launches. A bit late to change the plan for Dungeon Tails but hopefully some advice for next time. Looking forward to trying the game later this evening!
