I'm the same. Never more than 2. And i can admit to wrecking well over 200 bosses in a session. Who knows how this works.....?

I really doubt you killed over 200 Specials in a game. Assuming an average of 1 special per 10 turns, it would take a 2k turn game to get that many Special skulls...

Anyway, I mailed Fireflame the following questions some time ago:

1- Can you get more than one throphy (the one that unlocks classes or levels you up) in a same life? I never got more than 1 throphy without dying. (Note: I have since then gotten 3 throphies in the same life).
2- Is the throphy appearance a random probability, whose "roll" is triggered when a special enemy is killed? Or is it based on the number of special enemies killed that life, or even over several lives? i.e can I get a throphy from the first special enemy I kill, or there is a minimum limit?
3- In case it is a chance roll, does the probability of getting a throphy increase the stronger the special enemy you kill is?
4- It seems that throphies level up the class if you're playing with a class, and unlocks new classes if you're playing with the adventurer. This mean you cannot unlock any new classes unless you play with the adventurer. Is this really true?

    And got these answers:

    1) You can get up to 3-4 trophies in one life if you can last long enough, although this takes quite a bit of skill
    2) The trophies appear randomly, although there's some limits to ensure they're never too close together or too far apart
    3) No, the chance is always the same regardless of what kind of special enemy you kill
    4) The trophies have a 50/50 chance of either levelling up your current class or unlocking another one. When playing adventurer who doesn't level up, the chance is 100% unlock another class, and once you've unlocked all classes the chance is 100% you'll level up current class when you grab a trophy

Small question on process/order of operations:

Let's say you match a ton of shields-- the tiles start to collect. In the middle of this, you get enough for an upgrade of +0.25 shields. Would this new bonus affect the shields that you are in the middle of collecting? What about with coins or xp? Or do the changes not take place until the next time you match?

They start coming a lot more often than that, eventually.

Add in big game hunter and the class effect of a Mage that auto refreshes one of you skills... I've had games with 3 or 4 bosses on the screen at least 10 different times in one raid, it's not hard to get to 100+

That is why I said average.

And Nesio, you were probably just unlucky then.

The average can be higher, it depends on how long you play.

SO skill elixer, does the bonus chance apply to these and if so, is it strength, or vitality?

i am having trouble after 1000+ turns in this game in normal mode, usually by the time i get to 30,000 points, the enemies hit so hard, it's hard to stay alive.

    any tips?

Score more points in the first 1000 turns. The game is designed so it's hard to live much longer than that, so, to get higher scores, you have to accumulate more points in fewer turns.

OK, I suck at this game and I'm really frustrated with it. Seem to average around 175-200 turns before getting killed on Normal. I've been through this thread and followed everyone's (often conflicting) tips, but I always end up with unconnectable swords and skulls, no health, and then wham, a special skull appears that is just unkillable with the crap I have on screen, and the unconnectable skulls just chew me up.

Is there a good strategy guide resource anywhere? My googling has not turned one up. Whatever I'm doing is flawed, and is killing my enjoyment of a game that is good at its core.

Also - I hate the permadeath aspect of the game. I think a "career" mode where you have an RPG-style death penalty (reduced stats, etc.) but continue on with the same character would be a welcome addition to the game.

Will be in a very long flight soon, wondering if scores and achievements sync fine after an offline period.

I don't know of any single guide, though I know LordGek has posted a few, you might want to check his posts. Some of my suggestions (which I think overlap with his):

    1) Concentrate on weapon damage when available -- you want to be able to minimize how many swords you need to kill the skulls. For non-specials, you want to be able to kill the skulls with just one sword for as long as possible, but then with specials, you don't want to have to need TOO many swords, and that's when high weapon damage helps.

    2) Go for HP and Luck raises as second choices. Somewhat obvious, but these two will keep your HP high and full, to minimize problem conditions.

    3) Armor upgades are the last choice. I only take them when nothing else is interesting.

    4) Blunting is rare, take it whenever you see it. Also take the one Quicken slot when it's available.

    5) Try to get Dazzle and Teleport. Bad to generalize, and I've had great games without those two, but still likely the best two spells in the game. Dazzle will help you make those connections you're having problems with, when suddenly all your coins are more swords. Helps greatly with bad specials. Teleport gets you the heck out of there when Dazzle won't do the trick. But, if you can kill a special instead of teleporting, do so. You always want the extra XP if you can get it.

    6) Until late in the game, always clear as much as you can on every turn. If one sword is enough to kill the skulls, but you have five more that you can chain, use all six. That might be five more coins or shields or skulls that are available the next turn for grabbing for upgrades or killing for xp.

    7) Don't be discouraged. I've had great games (was in the top ten on hard at one point, not close now), but then also real stinkers. Sometimes it's hard to get "set up" for a good game, and no matter what, you'll still die with 2000 points. You might find out of four games is a good one.

    Enjoy!

Im sure some of these have been asked before but nothign i can find in 190+ pages so forgive me for the duplication.

I bought this game last week and have been plauing non-stop, but have some questions.

    1) Does the difficulty of the game progress based on turns or levels? i.e., the difficulty of the skulls?

    2) Can you summarize the different attirbutes and what they give you? What does 1 luck give you? 1 vit? 1 str? 1dex?

    3) What is the difference between repair and upgrade for shields?

    Thanks

    1) It's based on turns. The longer you survive, the tougher skulls get.
    2) What they give is stated when the option to pick the attribute is offered in the level-up screen.
    3) Repair means recovering defense points. Upgrade means how much each collected shield adds to the blue upgrade bar. A shield will repair your defense points if they are below maximum (i.e 20/60) and add to the blue bar after your armour fills up to maximum. So if your repair ability is currently at 10, the first 4 shields you collected (40 defense points) would fill up the defense points and any subsequent shield would be added to the blue bar. If your repair is 20, the first 2 shields would completely recover your defense points.
upgrade per shield, money per coin and XP per skull updates are very good, and should in most cases be picked before any other.

Also, due to poor wording choice on the developer's part, upon levelling up (filling the green bar by gaining XP by killing skulls) you might be offered an upgrade called "Defense" with a subtext showing an "armour per shield" increase. Its name is misleading. It should have been called "Repair" instead as it increases the armour per shield you get (which is the same as defense points per shield). It does not actually increase your maximum defense points per se.

yeah I think it may be a good idea to give usefulness to the easy mode
After 1k-2k turn+ it would be awesome to have rare trophies that allow the player to exit the dungeon, that way we could at least have Easy records logged ! while having the option to continue to improve the score...

also it would be great to have a scoll down on the records (like 50 best personal scores)
More level per class , maybe balance better special skills for each special skill class? more classes ?
Man your game is awesome I wish I'd help you to improve your beautiful game design even further ^^

So what exactly does Zealous do? 'Cause the way I'm currently interpreting it, it doesn't sound like a very dangerous flaw...

"Specials come a turn sooner". So what? I still have to fight them with basically the same tiles. Is this like the Confused flaw, where it's almost like getting a free, no-catch perk?

    Thanks in advance.

I tried that strategy of treasure, boost gold, and treasure chamber (teleport over slash) and it worked awesomely. My score improved to over 60,000 and i got to 1113 turns. I'm sure i can improve, but this is the best skill combination i've had so far.
