No great luck on hard but I did get to that semi-invincible state for the first time today on normal. I can't select my chest piece though as the game crashes every time I do! But yes, now for sure I can say: Skill Elixir is awesome. Combined with Enchant and Teleport (barely using Disarm), it's been great. Early game when things were still a bit touchy, I was using it every cooldown no matter what, just to get that XP cycling in. If you can get enough potions on the board, I've gotten 2/3rds of a level on using it. Can leave you light on health though, so needs lots of regen, build up armor durability and Teleport/Disarm as a back up. Also lvl 10 Skill Elixir with a few points of quick, has an 8 turn cooldown! Raking in the XP. This was the first game when I realised how important 95% durability is too. Art, I had what you said about downgrades in mind, so about level 20 I started shifting all my enchants onto 3 items and leaving my weapon and trinket unenchanted as much as possible. That way I always get straight upgrades on those two. Only once so far have I gotten one of each of the 3 items I've been enchanting and, yep, all downgrades >.< Found the option that was losing the least...lost 6 spike damage though =( I even started avoiding coin matches over 3 to reduce the number of shop visits! Only question now: when to stop (at the very least, before that 255 base damage bug that was mentioned). EDIT: This makes me wonder if difficulty is based on turns? Because those monsters are all fresh, so they have about 130 health/armor and I'm level 96, Skill Elixir seems to have pushed me way over the curve (although my base damage is a bit inflated because once I maxed out the percents and skills, damage and health are the only things to go for when levelling. From other screenshots, at 75 I had 71 base/31 sword, at 44 I had 36 base/20 sword). I do still feel like I could die if I get a screen of skulls I can't clear. My defence is precariously low from not upgrading items properly (just +Armour when it comes up), so anything I don't kill right away hits like a truck.
Nice combo! Here's one that I recently used and made me virtually invincible for a while: Dazzle and/or Disarm + Scavenge (swords to shields) + Boost Armor (double shields). This got me a ton of equipment upgrades! I had a shield with 20 def, 25 spike, 5 blunt plus other enchantments too numerous to mention...
Okay, so Dex and Defense only increase repair rates but things like Scavenge and Boost Armor mean quicker upgrades? How these two different gauges work together but separate is still confusing me.
Difficulty has to be based on turns, not levels, or you wouldnt have been killing anything, since I had 60+% of your damage at less than half of your level. I voluntarily stopped at level 40, but had a very different build. I went for +up pretty heavily, had almost no +exp. Had around 3.25 +up, and a huge group of shields could easily do 3/4 or 4/5 of my bar. My recollection is that I had about 36 base damage, 36 weapon damage when I stopped. At that point, skulls were taking 3 swords to kill, but every now and then 2 swords + spikes would do the job. Its pretty clear it took me way more turns to get to 40 than it took you, but I surely got way more enchants (by level 40) as well. You kind of have me convinced on the potion for XP thing, though I have yet to try it. I got a lot of enchants out of the enchanting skill and the +UP, those were my boosts. Please note that I didnt do a scientific study of +UP or anything, and I cant say for sure how quickly it pays for itself. After all, I spent 13 enchants on it, so its legit to ask how many it gave me back. It would be interesting to combine it with double shields, but it wouldnt really help all that much at low levels, since you wouldnt have a lot of +UP at that point.
Great game...very unique! One request though....this game screams gamecenter support for scored, any eta on possible implementation of online scoring?
First I would Dazzle to turn fairly useless coins into swords. Then I would Scavenge to transform all of those swords into shields then follow-up with Boost Armor to get double points. I would trace a path thru at least 30 shields each time I pulled off this combo! I would put most of my equipment upgrades into two items, that way if I had to purchase a new item I wouldn't lose too much. I think the 'shield upgrade' skill is the one that increases the rate that the shield gauge fills up. I personally love the spike and blunt enchantments, I always picked those up when possible...
Yeah, this is actually what I try to go for most times. A lot of people remark on how overpowered or crucial the Enchant skill is, and while a guaranteed upgrade every 30-odd turns is pretty good (every 20 for level 10 Enchant?), a Dazzle - Scavenge - Boost Armor might be able to get you an upgrade every 15 turns (or every 5 turns with level 10 skills), so potentially 4 times as many upgrades as Enchant with all three skills at level 10. Of course, you do lose 2 skills slots to that strategy, and probably need something like Skill Elixir to level up those skills faster... Well indirectly Dex & Defense do give you faster upgrades since you're wasting fewer shield tokens on repairing your armor, and so get more of them going towards upgrades. Game center integration is definitely one of the top priorities, and it's what I'm currently working on for the next update, in addition to some new skills, monsters and shop rebalancing. I'd like to say this update will be available before the App Store is frozen for Christmas but I'm sure Apple will be swamped with apps & updates to review so it might not be approved until after the Christmas break.
Already covered in the update that should hit the AppStore any day now! The next update he'll hopefully submit soon after this one goes live will focus on adding Game Center and or Open Feint Support (I'll leave that to fireflame to elaborate on). If you already even kind of liked the game, forget about being able to play anything else once this update hits! Nothing compares to the "Oh @!$#@$%$ moments you'll feel when battling these new baddies right when you thought you were already nicely beyond the curve!
Nope, nor in the upcoming v1.1 (although the dev may have altered the quality of the sale items in this update, I'm not sure).
Man, this update is so money. All sorts of new goodies during play; fire and ice skulls, new abilities, and whatnot. In fact, I'd say there is at least 30% more whatnot included in this release.
Was just about to spread the cheer! I didn't know the update was out. I've been waiting for Dungeon Raid & Necronomicon to be updated - fantastic news. Updates now commensing!
