I love this game. It's like digital crack. I ran into a special skull I couldn't figure out how to beat yesterday. It had lines coming out of it and I think the tool tip said it could only be beaten by uppercut attacks. I almost had it down via spike damage when I got pounced on by another special. Does anyone know how to deal with this sort of skull?
Yes it means that they can only be damaged by a strike that passes over them from the tile directly below and through to the tile directly above, so passing through them from bottom to top. Note the direction is important. If you draw exactly the same match but go the other way it doesn't count (I suppose that would make it a downercut). The dwarven racial works the same way.
Next time try to avoid taking health regen, spike damage, and poison. They dont scale well later in the game. If you can... focus on shield +,XP +, gold +, blunting, durability, quick (only once you actually get a good skill though. dont nab it if you have no abilities yet), HP, weapon damage, defense, and base damage (in that order). If none are offered go for what you like (I lean towards strength and poison myself) The only exceptions to the above are: 1)Take a point or two of luck as soon as you can (wether by level or equipment upgrade). The extra HP per potion is essential 2) If you're an elf getting ONE poision upgrade is also essential to activate your racial benefit. And when levelling focus on getting your bonus chances up as fast as you can early (obviously taking any skills you like though as those are more important) It's not the only strategy but that's what I do and it should help you get higher scores. If you just want to survive longer then use my same list but drop the XP+, gold+, and shield + and drop weapon damage behind defense. I hope that helps but like i said you can find a whole bunch of other ideas (some of which might fit your style better) in this thread! EDIT: Forgot about life leech. That is essential come mid game and I start taking it right after I max out my bonuses and often times before weapon damage or defense in my list.
quick was useles as all skills where on their minimum cooldown and IMO poison with 50 dmg per round is pretty nice
Just threw together a handy special monster guide, thought people may find it useful. Potentially spoilery if you've just started playing, look away if you want to encounter them yourself!
Fair enough. To each their own I guess :- ) Typically I get quick via an item shop visit and even if I eventually max out my cool downs I find it beneficial. Although i think quick still reduces the cooldown by 1 even at max level. Best of luck though! Nicely done anthem!
I have a tendency to hit the 2x button accidentally a lot. I wrote to Steve Jobs about it and he told me to "quit holding it like that" Seriously though.. I have big hands and my thumb tends to catch the resize button on scaled games. There should be an option on the iPad to "always scale iPod apps". This would solve the problem for me.
Quick is never useless. It can reduce cooldowns below their minimum from leveling. I also like poison. I have over 300 poison damage in my current game, and with high base damage and spikes as well, I don't even need to use swords to kill anything.
What's more, Wish can appear and be used multiple times. Take it, use it, and it may appear again as a skill choice.
Thanks fireflame for making the class specific skill appear at the first level up, it makes my Paladin runs more fun
the spike monster unless u have teleport..u will lose..as later in the game if i kill him i will be killed..i dont know how it can be killed mnormally either both of us are killed or he leave me with very little hp so i die next turn or i keep wounding him and taking hp potions but that doesnt work well because he have high damage..very overpowered moster
Alot of people say not to worry about adding spikes or poison cause later on they don't help.....don't listen to that. It's a salvation to the common player!
Yeah, and still a great way to deal with an enemy you'd really rather not touch much like Spikey or Flamer.
i.....hate.......brute!!!! just wanted to say that. he shows up and starts throwing these skulls!!! big damage.
If you have some blunting you can usually just ignore a spikey and let the blunting take care of them (so eventually they only have one attack which your shields eat up). They dont do much when left alone. Then kill them slowly in small doses as you have the life. Never try to kill a spikey in one go.... I rarely take even half their life in one go unless I have a lot more hp than them which isn't too often. Focus on the other skulls at first so you can afford to ignore the spiky until it's blunted down. As for poison and spikes... I like them but I just don't think they scale well later into the game and take a lot of upgrades to build up (keep in mind I play on hard and harder). If you had 300 poison that means you used 150 upgrades on it or the equivalent of having 1500 more hp if you used those same upgrades for hp. The later turns I usually can't wait the 3 turns necessary for poison to fully do it's thing. I need to kill monsters the turn they come out or they quickly overwhelm me which is why I tend to take weapon damage (especially since I always take dazzle). One point of weapon damage is worth a lot more than one point of base damage if you match with more than one sword and it has more immediate impact than poison in large chains. Poison also doesn't have maximum impact unless the guy survives which I usually don't want. I want to be clearing the board as much as possible. Obviously what I'm saying will not be true for all builds... but my point is to carefully figure out which abilities best suit your build and go for them. Poison I can see being good in some builds since it effectively doles out 6 damage for each upgrade but it would have to be a very durable build that doesn't mind bad guys sticking around a couple turns... And it probably wants to be using the elf race since they make poison SOOOO much better... but I doubt spikes will ever be the best choice in any build since you should proactively be killing skulls... Not letting them hit you... and they only do one damage per upgrade Anyway... Sorry for the rambling... Just trying to help explain the logic behind me not backing up poison and spikes as much. There are tons of ways to play this game though (one of it's best features actually) so feel free to ignore me and play the way you like :- ). If you find some thing that works particularly well then please let me know as I'd love to try it out! Good luck and most importantly have fun playing!
The good thing about the Spike Monster is that he has pretty poor damage when he attacks. So you can just leave him alone until you take care of all of the other monsters, and then focus on killing him. Or you could just leave him there all game-- he's not a big threat.
I got into a situation today in which I literally could not match anything and had the meat shield out. He was off on the side and couldn't be matched. I couldn't make a match from any tile except a giant wall of skulls, which couldn't be touched thanks to the meat shield's ability. Kinda frustrating.
First time posting...just wanted to say that this is a fiendishly addictive game. It's eaten up most of my free time--and even some of my non-free time--since I downloaded it a couple of weeks ago. I'm pretty sure that it's going to get me fired. I also wanted to express some Mimic love. The first time it showed up it really freaked me out. "Why am I taking damage? Hey, what's with that coin?" I can understand if the designer found it to be more trouble than it was worth, but I thought it was fun. Now, about those Spikies and Brutes...
