I am not entirely sure of that. A coin/xp build with treasure chamber, dazzle, xp potion, machochism can generate a huge number of coins/xp. But I am just not getting enough of a boost to keep me alive. Most of the time my problem is not having a big enough sword and not getting enough leech to restore my HP.
I just don't see it. A single screen of coins every 15 turns is a LOT less than a doubled screen of shields every 5 turns. I haven't played with Masochism, or the other new skills, to be sure.
I think you guys are both onto different components of the problem, and there's no reason you can't both be right Shield collecting gives you 5 upgrades every 5 turns which is just ridiculous, and upgrades give you better options than leveling (which eventually is just base damage and health really), or the item shop (which at least can give you some good stuff but often at the cost of some other stat decrease).
It's not beautiful, sounds are simple, score is absent... but I CAN'T STOP PLAYING this awesome game !!! Even in easy or normal mode it's hard ! for two days since I bought it, I only earned another class !!! Really incredible ! A must have !
For what it's worth I think XP does factor into score more than upgrades. I'd say on my high score runs I'm getting 3-4 upgrades per level... yet my score for XP is only half my upgrade score. That said... getting 5 upgrades every 5 turns is going to trump the XP route I think... Yeah it's a great game :- ) Score can be found midgame by hitting the stats button And for music most people have their ipod playing in the background anyway so sound effects aren't a big deal
Yeah I don't know about other people but I keep most of my music on a traditional iPod and use my measly 8GB on my Touch for games and other apps. Some music would be nice, but it's not something I consider a big deal for a puzzle game.
Fair enough :- ) You guys are probably right since the few people i know who play it have ipads so space is not exactly an issue.
XP potion is one screen of skulls (xp) without taking a turn, follow by two screens of coins, because the xp potion clear up and get you a full screen of coins, and when you clear that up, it's another screen of coins. (or skulls if you use masochism) You could even add treasure and make it 3 rooms of coins. Not really saying that it's enough, but it's no where close to be enough if I can't compensate with the right enhancements.
I scored a 43k game with Greed/Treasure Chamber/Double Gold/Golden Touch on a Sauren Rogue. It's pretty fun to activate Double Gold/Treasure Chamber and then draw a scroll of Treasure or even 2 because every new coin that falls from Treasure Chamber is automatically collected at Double Gold and coins continue to fall. I think I've netted 14-15 item shop visits + 2 enchantment scrolls from a single screen when I got lucky and drew 2 Treasure scrolls. Greed is not so useful though. Maybe replacing it with XP potion would be interesting. Anyways, it is potentially viable to do a coin-centric build, if the item shop was more worth it. Having the Sauren racial goes a long way towards this build, but I guess DaviddesJ wouldn't know because he hasn't played since the new patch. I think j2yueh had some good ideas towards making the item shop and enchantment balance more useful in the long term. However, this might affect the current spread of high scores, so something to keep in mind. Also I always listen to podcasts while playing Dungeon Raid. Who wants to listen to skulls groaning for 5 hours. =\
The sounds are part of the 'hook' of this game. Sidenote -- I really like the sounds of the game, I *dearly* appreciate that the designer thought to pitch shift multiple sounds. Frankly, I think making the chains creates some of the coolest 'in-game' sounds, it's almost some sort of strange music instrument!! Also, after playing the game for hours, I sometimes just hit different options in the Treasure Room to hear the chiming sounds... Lastly, this reminds me -- it'd be nice to have in-game volume control b/c I *always* play background music, or radio w/iTuneIn (awesome $1 spend for iPhone users, esp w/unlimited data). But not a deal-breaker, I just shut off the sounds if I'm on headphones. I wanted to address this comment b/c I think the sounds we so well thought-out & work so great with this game. (Must've been a challenge to figure out the sound for shields, eh?) And who doesn't love that a sword swipe hitting nothing makes a 'missed sword swipe' sound? rekzkarz.com
Hi, first time poster, long time watcher/player, love this game, etc. Is there any chance of a shield variant like arrows and mana potions? Like caltrops that do damage to nearby enemies based on how much armor you collect? And the other thing is, can the warrior class skill Charge and the Mage skill Rune work together? If so, that would seem to be a rechargeable Wish.
I don't think so since for Rune, you need to DRAW a closed path, and Charge simply collects all of the stuff around the edge of the board. Although I haven't tested this, I suspect it would not work.
Update is out. What's New in Version 1.3.2 - Refreshed name entry screen & cleaned up class edit screen, added help buttons - Removed confusing Mimic enemy, replaced with 3 new more fun special enemies (thanks to the players who suggested these!) - Added Hack skill - Class special skill is now always offered on first level up - Dragonkin now immune to its own fire breath - Fixed Last Stand to properly protect from skulls thrown by a Brute - Fixed slow poison glitch - A bunch of miscellaneous fixes & tweaks
I don't know if this has ever been brought up, but is it possible to have 2 profiles or 2 save spots? My wife just got into gaming and she can't stop playing Dungeon Raid. But I make her play just the adventurer so that I can have the satisfaction of unlocking everything. The other problem is that if she or I stop midgame, then the other person can't pick it up and start a new game. btw, I like the cleaner menus in the update.
Oh update! Well that may void what I came on to point out, or maybe not, but I've been having this occur recently as seen in the screenshot. The freezing effect from the Freeze skull seems to sporadically stop working. It still displays the graphic but you can match them as normal. Funny thing is, the next turn after this things were properly frozen as normal. Not sure what triggers it but seems to randomly happen even off the same skull in sequential turns. Just a heads up! (Oh and no laughing at my embarrassingly low weapon damage that game, item shop was being mean! Also a hazard with XP builds since you only get base damage from level ups. It was on normal though, grinding for trophies!). Okay time to update!
Take 2! Forum ate my screenshot >.< EDIT: *Love* the new menus, very spiffy! Minor bug report though, for some reason when you select Adventurer class on the blue class tab, the Ranger's level number disappears.
Great job with this small update! The menus are a lot clearer and it makes the whole thing look a lot nicer This is definitely more newbie friendly now.
