I guess I shouldn't beat the drum, I should just go quietly, but why not have IAP to unlock the content? Seriously. I'd be playing this game a lot if I could unlock it that way. And the publisher would get some revenue, too. As it is, I've pretty much put it aside.
I think there are some players who refuse to play any game with IAPs. It's probably a big question of making the revenue from those who would use it vs not getting the initial revenue from those who wouldn't buy the game at all because of it.
I agree, while handy, such a move could be a tough call as it is likely to lead folk to believe one NEEDS to buy the IAP to advance since it does admittedly come pretty slowly. While dome devs with IAPs tell plainly in the description the IAP is just there as a shortcut and not really needed, so many of them are out and out lying (sure you can get the upgrades without any IAP purchases at 1-2 coins a game as you save up for the 6,000 coins needed to buy some basic upgrade).
I am definitely in the camp of not really believing developers when they say an IAP is not necessary. There are over a dozen games that I have not downloaded due to IAP, it's basically a red flag warning when I see one. Back to this particular game, IMO I think that an IAP is not needed because without a story mode then the only reason to play this game is to unlock things or get higher scores. If you unlock everything with an IAP, you basically rob yourself of actually "progressing" through the game. For me (who is nowhere close to the highscores posted), the sense of euphoria of getting a trophy keeps me coming back for more.
Yeah, that'd be the mimic enemy. Some of you will be happy to know that the next update removes the mimic (to be replaced with 3 other monsters), and I can look forward to not receiving several mimic-related "bug" reports per day The GC achievements don't seem to update their percentages like the OF ones do, but they should still unlock correctly once you've got it to 100%. Soon I'll add a way to synchronise the OF & GC achievements, so this mess will be resolved Yep, that's what I meant. By taking Teleport that only starts seeing use at turn 600, you've wasted potentially 100 uses of Repair or similar collector skill, the upgrades from which might have helped you keep ahead of the enemies for much longer, not to mention all the score from those 100 shield/coin/xp grabs. And even if used frequently before then, Teleport removes all skulls so you get less XP in the long run... Yeah, I'm also pretty wary of IAP and believe you should only pay once for a game. It'd also be quite a lot effort to add, test and debug, so at that point the question is do I want to spend x days/weeks adding this stuff just to shake some extra money out of existing players and add nothing to the game or instead spend it fixing bugs and adding fun new features? The latter just seems like a much more interesting and positive use of my time
Well, I can guarantee that some of the ones I named should have been at 100% and unlocked long ago. For example the broken swords/shields one since I used the rogue with his broken shields to unlock every other class, and I also started playing around with the shield collecting build at that time, I must have collected many hundreds, if not thousands of broken shields. And some of the ones that are not registering for me are not percentage-based. For example the pretzel one is pretty easy, and I do it over and over again, trying different patterns and numbers (always equal to or more than the requirement) of crossovers, but it never registers.
Hurray for more updates and special monsters! Question though, can you just make the mimic an option but have it default to off? Since you already have the code done for the mimic why not keep it in some fashion? I actually really like it.
THIS+1 Thank you, please add more content (not that there's endless amount of it) but yes I would love you (no homo) if you did NOT add IAP, they make it seem like you try to nickle and dime the buyers, I understand what David is getting at, but one of the new reasons to keep playing is to level up and unlock more classes. So I would not delete the game, but I would be sadden if you added an IAP.
On the other hand, I find $3 to be too little to give to the developer for the amount of hours and hours of entertainment I've gotten from this game so I would love some IAP whether it's a special class/race/mode so I can support him further.
I'm surprised to see myself typing this, but based on the convo I had w/Fireflame + what I've seen, enabling all those classes & abilities to be avaiable ASAP by spending $1 or $2 seems like a *GREAT* way of doing IAP, esp since you don't have to spend it but can play your way to unlocking everything. I think you should state clearly that IAP is OPTIONAL to unlock features which you can play the game to enable -- and that seems *totally fair*. Now the discussion of if it's worth your time programming all that junk, well -- that's another topic IMO (it's your call what you do w/your time) -- and I'm all for you never doing any kinds of programming except game development!!! I think a "character sheet" would be a very useful add for this, esp as a post-mortem 'clickie' on your fav dead dude. rekzkarz.com
Fed up to see this thread up here so finally I tried the lite .... and then just bought the full version !!! Very addictive, just a little disappointed that graphics are just terrible (remember Sword and Poker is cute) and there's no music... BTW, I didn't understand how can I have bonus tiles ?
if you match 4 or more tiles (of the same type) then you have a percentage chance of 'bonus' a bonus tile give twice its normal reward. i.e. twice as much health as a non bonus health..
I also think the graphics are bad. They have no personality. Great game, but I bet the serviceable-at-best visuals cause some folk to pass it up, especially people who don't come to TA or read reviews.
I think the graphics are truly great. Nearly the best I've seen in any IOS game. Way, way, way better than Sword and Poker. However, this game is likely to stay on the shelf for me for now as I don't have the patience to unlock the content. I just want to skip to playing what I see as the "real game". Oh well. I'm just one player, and I can find other games. Thanks for your thoughts, anyway.
Were you a frequent player previously? I play this game maybe once a day...maybe, and I've unlocked all classes. I'm not a genius player by far. I never have a great setup and I've barely grazed 2000 turns on any mode. But I keep gaining levels and unlocking classes. Which leads back to the initial question: how much did u play before? You could have unlocked everything by now if you played more than you asked for an IAP or leaderboard reset....
I played a lot in the previous version. I would like to play a bunch of games in the new version, with everything unlocked. To do that, in between, I'd have to play a whole bunch of partially unlocked games that I wouldn't enjoy. I started doing that but I quickly lost interest. Maybe it's just my personal quirks. Another possibility would be a hidden "cheat code" that would unlock everything. People could use it if they like and don't use it if they don't like. Maybe if there is a new "campaign mode" or other additions I will get sufficiently motivated to unlock everything. I don't want to be unrelentingly negative. I understand how everyone might not want the same things that I want. I just observe that I've lost interest in playing the game because unlocking everything feels like a grind.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE LITE VERSION, I NEVER WOULD HAVE BOUGHT IT OTHERWISE! I finally detached myself and bought the full version, lol.
