I love this addictive game, but it gets difficult fast and I can't seem to score over 2000, even on easy mode. I know - I am rubbish at this! I just get overwhelmed when those skulls start appearing in numbers and those special monsters just kill me. Anyone got any strategy tips?
There's a wealth of information in this thread if you skim through the posts. You can also click on my name and view my previous posts for a couple I have previously written if you want a quick fix (although there are better players than me on this thread who have also offered great advice) Specifically... http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?p=1656005#post1656005 or... http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?p=1651626#post1651626 I don't actually think Fireflame will need to boost sales. I was just saying i hope the article did :- ) I think this game is an absolute steal at $3 and he doesn't need to put it on sale. Most people who would buy this game will buy it eventually even if he doesn't put it on sale.
hey, does anyone have a good spikes/defense based strategy/build? Not for assualting the top of the leaderboards but just for fun? I tried one taking spikes/blunting whenever I could and focusing on defense over damage but can only reach about 20K on normal... (I used teleport, boost armour, repair and dazzle. Scavenge just never came up for me).
What do you mean? As far as I remember nothing's changed in the class screen, all the text should still be exactly where it was before Yep, these are good ideas, will add them soon I've heard of people reaching 50k+ on Hard without Teleport (and I've always been a great advocate of the score-draining nature of Teleport ), and a lot of the past top 25 on Hard/Harder reportedly didn't use Scavenge or Shield Boost. I think different people have different preferences or get used to certain combos over others, so while there's a lot of viable combos some may tend to stick with one that works because trying a new skill combo might require a different playstyle and not yield great results when you first try it. I have saved your ideas for the different builds, though, and would like to give them a try Blunting's not capped but it does become rarer the more you have of it. This is a change from early playtesting, with blunting becoming amazingly overpowered if it was given at the same rate as other upgrades. It was possible to just go for blunting upgrades and the game became a boring cakewalk even on Harder as there's effectively no penalty for keeping skulls around for multiple turns. Sorry, this is because Lite uses iAds which unfortunately require 4.0+. There's apparently also issues with jailbroken devices and iAds, so I might switch to Mobclix.
Oops, I did write the hardcore mode down in my Big List O Ideas and it's going in, but forgot to paste it into the reply. I did want to do a mode where you start out with random skills/race/perks, but couldn't get over the problem of people then just starting a game over and over until they get a combo they like, and your idea solves that perfectly. Restarting or dying in a hardcore game would save that score and the next game's score will factor in either the average last x scores or a weighted average of all past scores, it's brilliant
Hi Everyone: Just a quick question: what is the highest level that a character can achieve? My barbarian is at level 102 and I don't know if I could finish this run tonight....
Yeah in most of my high scores I ended up with skill elixir over teleport. Teleport saves you and extends the game but for the first 600 or more turns it's usually a waste and that's a waste of a lot of potentially useful time. I still always use the dazzle, scavenge, boost armor combo. I'd be curious what some of the other hi score builds are as I'd love to try them out! And for blunting I did figure that out and edited my previous post a few days ago. Thanks for verifying it though! I like how it gets rarer the more of it you have as I can see how it would get overpowered... but does it make sense for it also to become slightly more common the further into the game you are? The combination of the two variables might help it show up a little more than it does right now in later turns when a little more would not be broken (I'm talking like turn 600+). Heck you could even just set a variable cap based on turn number and the closer you are to the cap the rarer it is. Just a thought but it is probably fine as is. Keep up the great work!
Found a Bug I am in an incredible high level of the game (146). This is very unusual. lol The point is, i just "attacked" a potion, and leeched its life... I was making my potion sequence and one of the potions apeared with a X over it and i leeched its life. WTF? I hope i can lose this game soon, its getting boring...
It must have been one of the new special monsters called mimic. It has inverted art but otherwise looks exactly the same. As for your game... If you are on normal it will take a while for the monsters to catch up and overwhelm you. On hard it should take about an hour but I can honestly say my fav part of the game is when i manage to make it that far and am doing everyone I can to survive. Stick with it! I would suggest playing on at least hard though if you aren't already and can survive to that point in normal. It's a faster and more fun experience.
I'm playing at harder. And, how can a monster, even disguised, be inside a streak of potions? Is that for real? Thx for the answer!
That's just because it's the mimic. Hence the disguise, mate! Haha, funny concept, though. Does anyone else have issues as far as the achievment counter on Game Center go? For example, I know I've killed way more then 1 special monster but the acievement tracker only has me at 1% out of the 100 I need to kill. I probably wrecked 30 or so my last game and nothing changed. :/
The GC achievements barely work for me. There are several that I've done many times but it never registers. The pretzel one for instance, I've done 9 crossovers (more than enough) over and over again, but I still don't have the achievement. Edit: Examples of other ones I know I have accomplished but that have not registered: Elf, two of the character level ones, Nemesis, Touche, Bloodlust (it's at 1% lol), Just a flesh wound (at 2%, but I've probably killed thousands with poison using the elf), Stay a while and... (at 2% but I used that race to unlock all the other classes and I know I got way more than 50 scrolls), Sniper, Safari, Pack Rat (like I said I used the Rogue a lot early with 5% broken shields yet somehow this is only at 1%)
I would be more frustrated if I didn't just flat out love this game so much. Still it would be awesome if the GC achievements worked, but TBH I've had similar, though usually more minor, problems with nearly every game I have that supports both GC and OF, so I wasn't entirely surprised.
I don't understand how Teleport drains your score. Maybe this is why it seems so overpowered. I think it generally helps the score, if anything, because scoring per turn depends on clearing large groups rather than small groups, and Teleport resets an unfavorable screen to a random screen. And it doesn't cost a turn. I will agree with the people who say it's primarily valuable at the end, and you aren't living that much longer or scoring that many more points once you start needing Teleport to escape.
I've been playing with Priest lately and hadn't realized that the special Wish skill can be acquired and used multiple times. Which is pretty great. Keep up the good work, Fireflame!
I think he means having a skill that you don't use for the majority of the game hurts your score as any other skill that you use frequently should be continuously bolstering your score. So teleport hinders you from maximizing your score by taking up a skill slot. I could be wrong though... That was just my interpretation of what he was saying. And pluff that's really impressive for harder! What's your score? Sounds like you might be posting one of the top scores.
