thanks for the info. it was weird to see him go from daily posting to not a word. im just glad hes ok.
I know it is just something weird with me, as this game is pretty damn complete and is without any major bugs, but if I no longer see evidence that the developer is still working on tweaks or even a sequel to the game, it feels abandoned. I need to feel the devs behind my favorite games are still working behind the scenes to make it better and better or else I feel the need to move onto other stuff.
It is so good to hear this game may finally get updated again. A Universal version would be great! LordGek, thanks so much for posting that news.
I know what you mean LordGek. While Fireflame was here... every time I started to slow down playing this game he posted a new update and I was back at it. It just kept getting better and bringing me back in. Once he stopped though it slowly faded away. After about a month I found myself starting to play less and less. Now I only whip it out every once in a while to play one quick game before moving on to whatever my latest app is (right now I'm still glued to Carcassone with the expansions and have the updated version of Ash on deck). Personally, I think it just has to do with a feeling of been there done that... Once I've played everything a game has to offer I move on regardless of how good it is... but with such a great game it doesn't take much for me to be like... ooo I haven't done that yet... let's try it again! Seriously... just the meat shield boss kept me happy for weeks! In fact it's a testament to how good dungeon raid is that I still pick it up occasionally at this point. Thanks again for the update!
I've only just discovered this game and think it is fantastic - except for the fact that unlocking and levelling up classes is just so damn difficult. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to when this happens, just occasionally when you defeat a speci monster - but only very occasionally. As such there doesn't seem to be much sense of progression; I've played dozens and dozens of games without actually achieving anything for it other than a high score. It's a great shame, as the game itself is so addictive.
Totally agree. I was really frustrated when the classes and levels were added but the unlocking was so painfully slow. I would pay $1000 for IAP to unlock everything! That would be better for the developer too! (Is it possible you are playing on Easy difficulty? I don't think you get unlocks on Easy.)
It's my understanding you can unlock a new class after defeating 10 bosses. You have 100 percent chance to unlock using the adventurer class, and I believe 50 percent chance using other classes. Someone correct me if that's wrong.
Haven't played any games on Easy yet - mostly normal and some hard. It does seem that I'm unlocking stuff every 10 'specials' more or less - so praps that is how it works.
Here are the rules for unlocking: 1) You can't do it on easy 2) You get a trophy for every 15 or so specials/bosses you kill. I forget the exact number but it was around there. 3) The most you can unlock in one game is (3) and I've noticed it takes more special/boss kills to unlock the 2nd and 3rd in the same game 4) If you reach the maximum you can get in one game (and keep going) quite often the first one you kill the next game will get you one. So it seems you can still build towards the 10-15 special trigger... it just won't trigger after the third trophy until you start a new game. 5) Each trophy has a 50% chance to unlock a new class or 50% to level up the class you are playing. So if you're playing the adventurer (or a maxed out class) then every trophy unlocks a class. Likewise if you've unlocked all the classes every trophy levels up your class. And yeah there have been numerous suggestions on how to tweak the unlock scheme. Here is mine http://forums.toucharcade.com/showpost.php?p=1956208&postcount=2076 Hopefully fireflame can address this at some point as it is a frequent question/frustration people have and I know his intention with classes was for it to be a fun add to the game... not a distraction/frustration Hope that helps!
So...is there a point you can reach in this game where you can never die? I read somewhere that the enemies increase in difficulty exponentially while the you can only only level up linearly so you will always eventually die, but I've been in this game for awhile and my health is always maxed (and around 800) and never gets touched because my defense is so high. In fact, I have so much spike damage that I can do the stupidest match-3 combos every turn and never match a sword with an enemy, and they still will die without me losing any health. I'm fairly new to this game and I'm still playing as an adventurer (I still don't really know what the other classes do yet), but I'm wondering, should I keep on playing and will I eventually die? If not, should I bother replaying the game as a different class just to check it out and see what is different about it?
Haha no, I am on harder. My four skills are Enchant (which I now realize is a total waste), Dazzle, Teleport, and Scavenge. I actually have not once used teleport the whole game, and with with a cooldown of 10 I fail to see how I will ever die when I finally need it. Dazzle and Scavenge have a cooldown of 5 at max level, so I basically spend 4 turns clearing out all of the health potions just because they don't do anything useful, and then on the 5th turn use Dazzle followed by Scavenge to get basically a board full of shields. This leads to 3 or 4 upgrades every 5 turns, and another from Enchant every 25. The skulls killing themselves (I have 70ish spike damage) also gives me a level up every couple of turns.
I wrote that and I believe it to be true. I don't think it's possible to play more than around 1200 turns on Hard or 1500 on Normal before the enemies just get too tough. There can definitely be an intermediate phase where you are strong enough to kill everything easily, and that can go for hundreds of turns, depending on how fast you powered up. The game in that case is to score as well as you can during that time, because eventually it will get hard again. I've had several thousand HP before eventually dying. 800 is not really a lot. How many turns have you played so far? I think the turn counter is in the display, if I remember correctly (it's been a long time since I played). What is your score, I'm sure that is displayed? How many hits do the skulls have? Are they getting stronger? It's also possible that you are accidentally playing on Easy difficulty. There have been other reports by people who thought they were playing on a higher level, but had accidentally set the difficulty to Easy before starting. As far as I recall, there's no way to check the difficulty level during the game (it's only displayed at the end), and if you do start on Easy, then I do think it may be possible to play forever.
Well, I just clicked on the "stats" button which I had previously never seen somehow, and lo and behold, apparently I was playing on easy >.< I apologize for the confusion; looks like I still have some work to do
The skill combo and strategy you described is quite sound. But executing it on the hardest difficuly is not that easy (a lot depends on getting the skills you want early enough).
Ive had this little gem installed on my Iphone for about 3 weeks now and I just cant put it down!. Like most people I overlooked the app because it didn't look that visually exciting but it is so true you shouldnt judge a book by its cover!! Ive found it very helpful reading the information in this forum. Its improved my game scores and lvls tremendously. After playing close to 20 games Ive unlocked all the classes and my rogue reached lvl 3 while playing my current game. I decided to play the adventurer class until i had all the other classes unlocked so this is my first game with new race/class. Im looking forward to discovering how the classes and races allow you to customize the game further. The endless strategies and skill combinations are what make this game so great. In my current game (which is turning out to be my best so far) I have the skills Treasure/Skill Elixir/Dazzle/Boost Gold. This seems to be working well together. I also have 18% life leech which means im healing myself when attacking the skulls and can use the skill elixir skill to clear the board of the all the heal potions, boosting my lvl. Im lvl 72 on normal now. Is there any way to view how many turns you have had prior to being killed? Similarly, is there any way to view the status of your multipliers for Gold, UP and EXP? I can only seem to view these when I go to the item shop, get an upgrade option or a level up.
You can add up the values on each piece of equipment, by tapping them one by one on the "Stats" page.
Thanks David. I didnt know touching the equipment icons on the stat page showed you additional information about the item My game is still going at lvl 128 now 35k points.... My previous best game before I succumbed to the skull enslaught of two Overseers was lvl 65 but I had 33k points so im guessing the skill elixir I have this time that I didnt have last time has pushed my lvl much higher while the score has remained on the same curve? I think I remember reading that the score was based on how may tiles you collect?
I think the score is based on adding up how many points you scored in each of several areas (equipment, skills, levels, maybe turns played, maybe enemies killed?). There is a calculation shown at the end of the game, although it's hard to understand precisely. Turns played aren't worth very much, if anything---you get most of your points by either upgrading your equipment a lot, or gaining a lot of levels. If you play with different strategies and look at your score totals, you'll see that different approaches score most of their points in different areas.
Yeah the developer never revealed the algorithms for how scores are determined but in general the more tiles you collect the better your score will be. I don't think turns factor into it at all (except that you likely are collecting more tiles overall the longer your survive). In fact... often if you're going for a higher turn count, then you don't have the optimal build for high scores (for example teleport is a great survival skill but is a complete waste for high score runs as many other skills will constantly generate points for you). Also the current status of your character and turn count is something people have constantly requested and I think the developer said it's something he wanted to tackle better when he redid the UI with the new artwork he was planning... that was a long time ago though so we might just be stuck with what we got :- ) People already said how you can check out your equipment but I don't recall a good turn count indicator. In my playthroughs it seemed like it was fairly well balanced in terms of how each thing factors in to your score (i.e. level, equipment, etc) so just try out some builds until you find one that works for you!
