One of the best iOS games ever...a universal update would be spectacular...is the developer still around?

I agree about one of the best iOS games ever. The developer used to be very active here, but then disappeared. Someone who knew him contacted him, and he said he had personal issues that would take him away from working on the game for a while. The sale last week was the first movement of the game of any kind in a long time. I'd love to see him get back to it. Though even without any further changes, the game is a nice piece of work.

Thank you for summarizing that! I have not watched this thread. I had to stop playing it for the same reason I had to stop playing Civ Rev: I have bad "one more turn/game..."-itis.

It's good to hear about the sale. Hopefully it doesn't mean his personal issues mean he needs lots of money, but rather that he's doing better and is devoting a bit of time to it. Every game that attempts to do anything like this is always bejeweled and that gets old.

Not being too familiar with the app store procedures I assume fireflame would have had to set up the sale correct? If so that's a good sign at least. I hope all is going well with him :- )

I certainly hope so, it has been far too long. Even if he has to go back to a much more realistic schedule of minor updates every couple of months, or finally cut this one off and starts on Dungeon Raid 2: The Necromancer's Cocktail Party, I'm all in!

Well, part of why I would pay $100 is that it's a contribution to the designer for making a game I enjoy. You don't get quite the same consideration.

Also, I don't think I'll risk sending you my $800 iPad, and be without it for a couple of weeks. But I appreciate the offer!

Well, you could give me $50 and send the other $50 to the developer. :)

    My high scores

    Gold collecting:
    Turns:1212 XP:13250 GP:67593 UP:5128 Score:91183
    Class: Rogue
Race: Sauren (greater % getting scroll item with each gold fill)
Perks: 10% gold, Double Regen, 100% bonus 10+ tiles, -1 cooldown 4th skill
Flaws: 3% broken shield, can't damage 5 turns, Matching 3 tiles gives nothing, -1 armour
Skills: Treasure Chamber, Charge, Boost Gold, Dazzle (make sure Dazzle is 4th)

    Shield collecting:
    Turns:1187 XP:17379 GP:10274 UP:52012 Score:81963
    Class: Paladin
Race: Dragonkin (Ignite Random enemy when using skill)
Perks: Mortal Enemy half time, Double Regen, 100% bonus 10+ tiles, -1 cooldown 4th skill
Flaws: Special 1 turn earlier, can't damage 5 turns, Matching 3 tiles gives nothing, -1 armour
Skills: Boost Armour, Scavenge, Teleport, Dazzle (make sure Dazzle is 4th)

My longest game is actually 1400 turns, using Gold collecting method (but not the highest score).

Is there anyway to improve?? I always get in trouble around 1000+ turns, where special appears almost every two turns. The spikey and the throwing boss are usually what do me in.

I've read here that Double Regen is not good? Even though I agree end-game is not useful, it has saved me many times in the beginning and middle of the game.

I'm also not sure about my Race. I don't find other races all that useful.

What difficulty? My high scores are 102941 normal (1339 turns) and 82916 hard (1178 turns). Those are from before races and classes were added, so I assume I could do somewhat better now if I were patient enough to unlock them all. I think both of those were with Boost Armor/Dazzle/Scavenge plus something else, probably Teleport. I think the main thing to maximize your score is not to maximize how long you live, but to do your utmost to max out your bonuses during the "gravy train" phase of the game, where you're not seriously threatened. Once you're struggling just to survive, you aren't setting up big combos, so you aren't really gaining that much on your score even if you manage to stay alive for a while. Conversely, that means the biggest factor in getting the best possible score is to get lucky and get offered all of the skills for your main combo early, so you can max them out and start doing the big combo every 5 turns or so. Not something you can control except by playing a bunch of games.

Agreed with the above. The end game is not where high scores are made. It is fun though trying to survive though and can definitely still add to your score :- )

I know my high score was over 90,000 (I might have even broke 100,000 once) on hard using the dazzle, boost armor, scavenge combo with slash as my 4th.

Double regen may make you last longer and survive more games but it is not productive for high score runs (atleast in my opinion) for reasons previously discussed.

Teleport is in the same boat. It will make you survive longer more often but it is a wasted skill slot in terms of high scores. Slash will continually rack you up points (especially in the last spot with the perk for reducing cooldown) so the games were you manage to last just as long without teleport you will get a MUCH higher score.

Hurler guy is the most deadly special for longer games with meat shield being a close second. Kill them as soon as you can.... Spikeys are harmless as long as you have good blunting as you can just ignore them until they have an attack of 1. In fact I often end up ignoring them for quite a while and just slowly whittle them down when it's convenient and won't deal lots of damage to myself.

    I hope that helps!

If you're willing to play 10 or 20 games and quit and restart if you don't get all of the right skills early, my guess is you could get up in the 120,000 range on Hard. I lost patience with doing that, myself.

I'm assuming the much higher scores than that on the leaderboards are all forged or maybe from old, buggy versions.

Agreed. I used to compare myself only to other people posting here or scores close to theirs when I was doing high score runs. Some of the previous versions of the game allowed for some broken tactics that could net huge scores (i.e. the poison bug, versions before certain bonuses were capped, etc) and there are always hackers unfortunately.

I played maybe about 100 games, and my scores are still at 4k average on normal mode. My high score is 13k and the rest are 7k and below. How the hell did you guys reach 100k? Must I play on hard mode to get higher scores?

My high score combination was obtained by using:

    1) Collect all potions as XP
    2) Collect all coins
    3) Collect all shields
    4) Convert all coins to monsters

Using Raider Class and Halfing as race. My shield was 26 by the end of the game, which was surprising because I didn't know Halfing race gives +1 armour if I killed 15 monsters at one go. Combine this perk with convert coins to monsters and that's how I lasted that long.
