Couple of questions : 1. Are pets only available with ranger class ? I see different skins for ranger class, so they all have different animals as in their pictures right ? What bonuses do pets provide ? 2. What is most forgiving / easiest class for new players to get into and actually survive past Lv 5. ( always die at that Lv with my warrior even with some runes, artifact and other inheritance ) Nice game, but need to dedicate more time to really get into it
1.Yes, pets are only available with the Ranger. They don't provide bonuses, in the sense of buffs or stat increases, though they're integral to achieving range (distance from enemy) and can cause damage in their own right. Dominic can probably explain it better. 2.It's a matter of taste/opinion, obviously, but I'd say the Warrior is still the easiest to learn with. But the Ranger is awesome; once you get a hang of the mechanics, it's even easier to higher levels. Definitely stick with the game, though. Like you, I was stuck on Level 5 or so for a while. Made it to 10 or 11 with the Warrior, became more comfortable with the game mechanics and class abilities, and finally reached Level 20 with the Ranger. The best general advice for all classes is to upgrade and learn to use the special abilities as soon as possible. They're essential to success and one of the reasons I think this game is so well-designed.
While we're talking about newbie questions, could someone explain range? I really liked my Ranger, but I never quite understood its mechanics. Also, does inheritance change over time? It used to be that my gold/exp/artifact would carry over to any character; now I'm getting the message that the character has to be the same class as the one that just died.
You obtain range in units of 30 yards. You have a chance to gain range when you use your Wild Leaps ability and a percentage chance to gain 30 yards when you get three or more paw symbols. Each 30 yard unit is essentially a "free" hit. So really, it's just another way to mitigate damage just like defense is.
It also is the key to getting bonus damage from your bow. The bigger the range the bigger the bonus damage.
In earlier builds, yes, inheritance passed from whatever character died to the next character created regardless of class. That changed at some point to class based inheritance. Solution: Just make another save with whatever class just died, it will have the proper inheritance. Then go play another save. This is one of the key reasons we "forced" Dominic to expand the number of saves
Thanks for the help on range! Once I realized how much it could help, I managed to get to my highest level (7) with my ranger. .. and then I died with two life scrolls still available. Ahem. I thought I would kill him before he killed me.
Just to clarify: You can grant an inheritance to any class if you started at level 1 ("marathon" game) but if you started at a higher level ("standard" game) it's locked to your class. It actually was always that way. A good way to not lose these inheritance over time if you want to change classes is to "bank" them as C.Hannum mentioned in premade alternate characters. I did a change a couple updates ago that you will not lose your inheritance if it wasn't granted (like a level 8-12 rogue run then you create a level 3 warrior) but it will get overwritten if you then die with that level 3 warrior so it's still a good idea to go with premades.
Guess it just looked like it changed once I started getting everyone high enough level that no one was starting at L1 anymore. Thinking out loud here, but wouldn't it have made more sense to just cache inheritance data per class? That's effectively how it winds up working anyhow.
I just came across a dungeon with nothing in it. No monsters, no treasure, just empty lol. It was the lvl 16 dungeon "The Dark Compound". Just thought you'd like to know.
I think that's by design. It happens if you are higher level than the dungeon. It's holding back mobs to keep you from over leveling, I believe.
Hmm I don't recall... I may have just hit 17 when I found it. Though I have been a level above a dungeon before and I've never seen this. Is there just a chance that this will happen, or is it supposed to happen all the time if your a higher level?
If it is a level 16 dungeon and you are 17 or higher the first time you enter it, it will be empty. You can enter it when you're still 16 and level up to 17 while you're in there and it will remain populated with monsters, but I have noticed that some gold/chests have a tendency to disappear when you level up, both indoors and out. I got my ranger up to 18 and then croaked, which was a bummer, so I'm back to 16. Some of those dragons in the higher levels can be bastards. The ranger can dish out a ton of damage in just a few decent rolls, but if you get bad rolls (which are bound to happen) they can eat your shit fast.
Just got this game a few days ago and am loving it. Got a rogue to level 7 on my first play through. I have a question about the unlockable classes. Are they unlocked through IAP only or can they be unlocked in game? Thanks for such an awesome game.
