I'm surprised you describe the level 1 start as harder. I would think it would be easier, because you can start early on accumulating stuff, especially saving up all of the life scrolls you find.
Played the 1.14 update today and I appreciate the improvements to the battle descriptions. Still having a good time; got a rogue at level 7 now. I know, I know, nothing compared to some of you but still... I'm maxing out blade fury first since I seem to use that a lot. Also focusing on defense and gold. I can definitely see how gold could become scarce later in the game. I try not to upgrade anything unless I get +3 for it. Still not sure why it says "+14" damage rather than just "14" damage but that isn't a big deal. I'm looking forward to 1.15. The enemy special abilities will add a nice twist I think. Also, I really dig the music. Nice work.
I have two announcements today: First I must apologize for lying. I always said the deluxe edition was to be considered for 6 extra skins and nothing else.. that wasn't true. As a special thank you, all early adopters who went for the Deluxe Edition package (the 6 alternate cosmetic skins) will have a 7th special unique skin available for free: a goblin rogue. When the early adopter bonus (and deluxe edition package) will be over (version 1.17) the goblin will not be available anymore in the future and will forever be gone. This bonus rogue will be available starting in 1.17. Secondly: I'll soon start to work on two new classes which I will work hard to be available as soon as version 1.18. I'm revealing the first one today: the ranger. The ranger will be the first class to come as a female by default, brand new mechanics (including range)... and yes, the pet will attack your opponents and move along with you on the overland map I will do a survey to let players choose one of the alternate pet available as a skin but first I need to gather your ideas for the survey's choices. You can do so by replying to this thread with your favorite pick (or by email [email protected] if you don't have/want to make a forum account). Go wild! (no pun intended) Thanks again to everyone who purchased Dungeon Plunder.
Ranged classes are a favorite of mine to play in many RPGs, including roguelikes, so definitely looking forward to this. As for pets, hard to go wrong with old favorites like big cats or dragon, but I'll do something a little different and say: Giant Frog!
ooh, pets! I also love ranged/magic classes, so that should be interesting. I hope we get a chance to upgrade our pet as well when we level up (additional perks/stat possibilities for the pet?) A few possibilities for a new pet: Ocelot (inflicts bleeding, damage over time) Reindeer (ram to stun opponent) Giant Snail (slime to slow opponent) Dung Beetle (Nauseates opponent, reducing stats for a round) Giant Mushroom (opponent hallucinates, and may attack itself by accident) Lucky Fairy (Doesn't attack, but may occasionally adjust the reels for extra benefit) Pet Rock (does nothing, but might unlock an achievement or something (or a unique quest) if you beat the game with him)
Do you allow me to borrow some of your ideas? I might change my mind about it but atm I'm leaning toward having the form itself of the pet to be cosmetic to avoid having a favorite shape but having to take another as it's inner ability is just superior. Any favorite among your list for the survey?
Feel free! I tend to ramble on and toss out ideas left and right on games I enjoy, so you're welcome to use any suggestions that strike you as interesting. Who knows, maybe there could be a Moose that is puce as an enemy/pet/jabbering NPC if anything really catches your fancy. ^.^ For the survey I'd probably cast my vote for the Giant Mushroom (or Terrifying Toadstool), as hypnosis/confusion effects have generally been my favorite status effect to inflict on enemies.
Rogue gets hard starting at level 8. Wasn't ready for it, and had to burn a scroll. Once I bought all the upgrades, its quite doable, but it cost me 1/2 my gold. Kind of a long slog to get to where death is threatened. Not very roguelike. I have: +44 health +48% damage -- I think it only affects base damage, not +poison so I'm not sure how great this is. +10% double value shields -- its down to +1% from diminishing returns, so not real worth pumping higher +15% poison to shields 2 points in Vanish, which is very useful -- want to max this. 1 point in Backstab, which is not real worth it. Backstab seems to only work on base damage, not the +poison part, so it kind of blows 1 point in the swap unusable symbols skill -- want more here My only ruin from the second set is +35% gold, have +5% health and defense from the first set of ruins. Numbers are approximate.
Poison is multiplied off that base damage and that multiplier. This might change in the future depending on rogue performance following 1.15 but atm backstab is indeed applied at the same time as the poison, off base damage+damage modifiers. Btw I'm adding a much requested "Show combat breakdown numbers" option in 1.16 that will show the poison modifier as a standalone number if selected.
So that limited goblin skin is still available to those who purchase deluxe edition? I'd been hoping you would announce some additional content for deluxe before I purchased it, this will push me over the edge.
Yes, as long as you get deluxe before 1.17 you'll get the goblin. Then it won't be available anymore.
Cool, bought. Just had a thought, I had requested that enemies have their level shown on the map. What if instead of that, anyone who is a lower level than you has a mark on them similar to the red X for higher level monsters? It would save you from wasting time starting fights with under levelled guys. Maybe a green or blue mark to signify they aren't a threat and won't give you much/any XP. Also, you said something about trying to get higher resolution characters on the battle screen and I want to say that'd be very appreciated.
I think all enemies of your level or higher will be guarding some type of treasure. So that's one way to distinguish them. (If there are lower-level enemies which still have loot, then they are well worth fighting, imho.)
Agreed. Also 1.15 adds the run away button so it's quick to run out of combat if you mistakenly run into one.
Very nice! I like the "dark" theme of playing as a goblin, I think there's a lot of potential there in terms of implied story elements and twists although this is just a skin. Hypothetically, if someone deleted Dungeon Plunder and later re-installs it does that mean the deluxe edition as well as goblin rogue will be lost? Excellent! Ranged attack and a pet; that's like two classes in one. A Zombie Cow pet would rule! Alternatively a mer-man (Lovecraft inspired fish creature, think cthulhu), dragon, or pig (even a gnarly hairy tusked pig-like beast). I really like the giant snail idea. It reminds me of the snail from The Neverending Story.
