Hiho, I did a very short video showing the (basic) gameplay of Dungeon Myths and the touch gestures for moving around. I did it on my Galaxy Tab 7.7 and iPad 4. The game runs smooth as silk on the iPad, but a little bit choppy on the Galaxy Tab. Mmhh, it seem the hardware of the current Galaxy Tab can not handle the (hardware) expensive 3d visuals. Well, as the current state is just an Alpha build there are for sure a lot things that can be optimized. However, the focus was - and is - still on the iPad 3 or better. It just looks so gorgeous on these devices! (sorry for the self-praise ) Btw...the reason for my scratched hands are my 5 cats that need to be entertained: http://www.facebook.com/AxelsKittyCorner Regards, Axel
The GUI has been slightly revised for easier handling on smaller devices. But of course its not final yet. However, an iPhone port is thus more likely. Maybe? Furthermore the npc's ai / attack system and the item management is done. Everything is coming along nicely...but it is still a long way to go. And please let me introduce one of the unique npc's in Dungeon Myths: the guard captain. You will meet him at the very beginning of the game. He is a nice guy without aggressive attitudes. However, you better do not annoy him. You will have no chance! And this is how he looks:
This looks really cool, I'm bummed to see I may not be able to play it - I just got my iPad Mini a few months ago and am unlikely to buy a new one until it breaks or becomes very outdated. No plans to get a full-sized iPad, and my phone is an iPhone 4. Just something for the dev to consider - I'd play (and pay for) this if I could play it on my iPad Mini, even if it was "inferior" to the game that would be played on the ideal hardware (which seems to be the most powerful/recent, also the most expensive, FWIW).
Hey Enriana, I fully understand your point of view. Please take into account that the game is still in an early development phase and nothing is final. Even not the decision to NOT support slightly older hardware then the iPad 3 (as the iPad 2 and your iPad Mini). To be honest: I have not yet tested the game on an iPad 2 or iPad Mini simply because I do not own these pads. And how can I promise smooth gameplay on a device I never tested the game on? It's like always a matter of money. Currently I'm spending the entire budget on the games artwork. I hope you can see that. Furthermore there will be a crowdfunding campaign in a month or two to ensure the complete funding. This game and all its professional artwork is quit expensive. But it is worth the effort I think. After running this campaign I can hopefully put some dollars into equipment like an iPad 2, iPad Mini and last-gen Android pads. So if you want this game to be compatible with your hardware please support this campaign. The iPad 2 hardware is indeed quit powerful. So there is a good chance Dungeon Myths will support these devices. -Axel
Thanks to the developers for hinting as iPhone/iPod small screen support; that attempt is very much appreciated!
Thanks a lot! That means a lot to me. And it really motivates me and my crew to fulfil all the requests which have been expressed in this thread.
Whoa, fast reply! It's always great to have active devs around. I'm really glad to hear that you haven't ruled out anything for certain, because this game looks really great. The polish of the professional artwork really shows! I always feel especially girly when I say this, but it's all so pretty, and I like the pretty. Graphics tend to be a major factor for me when choosing games. I'll definitely keep an eye on this thread, your game, and the Kickstarter campaign - even if it's a long way off to actual release, the process is always neat to watch. (Especially the art. Did I mention the pretty? ) As Undeadcow said, the attempt is very much appreciated.
WOW. That's all I can say. Even if iPad mini isn't supported upon release, I hope the game is a fantastic success!!! Looks just amazing. I wish you good luck and I hope I can support the kickstarter.
Sorry to be the wet towel but I think you have magic here and I am sure I am not the only one who would be willing to play this game with downgraded graphic as a dev myself I feel as though money is indeed secoundary and having people enjoy your game I first and foremost... If you don't down grade you are not allowing all these people to play and love your game... In the end graphics are just that and they don't define a game the story, the experience, the geplay are what make legends like tes arena and daggerfall... I wish you the best of luck with this game and will be following it closely.
Of course you are right @Zdgames. The game comes first, the graphics as second. However, the visuals are very important for Dungeon Myths and should be top notch on any device the game will support. Ok, ok...although I have no budget for it I have ordered an iPad Mini by yesterday and I'm thrilled to see Dungeon Myths on that hardware. Maybe I have to change a shader here or to remove a post process effect there - but I'm confident the game will run nicely on that device an therefore on the iPad 2. I will keep you posted!
Nice... I know it's hard to dumb down all that work you've done... Trust me I know I've had to do the same thing with my game c.0.ntact but if the players can play it on there iPhone 4 or iPod 4 and can enjoy it than I have done my job and created a game they can play and enjoy... Really lookin forward to this game....
Good news! My iPad Mini arrived here yesterday. In installed the game and....was shocked how slow everything runs. Maybe 5 frames per second. The iPad 4 has so much more power... But then I spent some hours scaling some textures down, changing some shaders here and there and finetuning the overall quality level. And the effort was worth it. Dungeon Myths runs with about 20 frames per second on the iPad Mini. Well, that's not super smooth, but at least it is good playable at that speed. And the performance differs from level to level. I'm testing currently the first level - the castle - and this is by far the most complicated level for the hardware. The viewing range in the "real" dungeon is much lower, so I expect a good performance boost in the dungeons. Ok - with this said it's official - the iPad 2 and iPad Mini are supported devices now.
Cool. Day 1 download. And yes, the iPad 2 (Mini is basically the same thing shrunken down), is getting comparatively slower. Hopefully iPad 5 will blow us all away with octo core A? CPU and at least 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. Won't ever happen while Cook's on board though...
