Believe me when I say that I agree. Making the gameplay fun is high on our priority list. A lot of games look great but fall short in entertaining me cause they simply lack depth and fun gameplay elements. We hope to get both done properly.

Perfect! Too many unnecessary dpads in the app store. No reason for it when you can interact directly on the screen.

What you've got looks great, look forward to seeing more.

A D-Pad style navigation would be rather cumbersome and tiring in my opinion. I like touching the screen where I want to go. Doesn't get more "direct" when it comes to navigating your character.

We certainly will Sir. We have no reason to stop here ;)

We can't really say anything official to this quite yet. Still many months of work ahead of us. In any case, it will be priced "fair".

Someone really needs to produce a game that takes the item collection and upgrade schematic from Diablo and blends it with something like the crafting and trophy gathering features of Capcom's Monster Hunter franchise.
Online gaming would be awesome if it forced you to cooperate in similar vein to Square-Enix' FF Crystal Chronicles games too...

I also think the directional pad type of interface is pointless. Without any physicality to the 'pad' action oriented games just don't work well. Multitouch is way better, but then you have to ensure that the combat and environmental interaction is dialed. So I was wondering whether a hybrid action/turn based interface would appeal more to RPG fans and be more appropriate for a Diablo type game. You know the move in realtime-pause-select attack and strategy- unpause, then augment attack type of deal...?

Puzzle elements for spell casting, ranged weapon firing or lock-picking would be uber cool too.

Please don't make this 'just' a Diablo clone. You guys have the opportunity to create something unique, and the quality of the art direction so far is a really good start. I just hope you don't follow the same path as the developers of Underworld.

Here's one idea: what about taking a forum poll for feature sets before you start the meat and potatoes of the programming? You know, give the gamers what they want?

I guess it depends what you mean. I think no one has really managed to make a "clone" of Diablo yet. If you could achieve that actual level of quality, I think that would be a big success. On the other hand, if you just copy the games that have copied Diablo, that wouldn't be so exciting.

@Troutmagnet - Most things you mentioned are on our list. However, we do NOT intend to make a clone of anything. As said before, we surely like some of the current and old RPG's out there but we try to do our own thing. Game mechanics are very similar in most RPG games so inventing something completely new is not easy. We try to do a few unique things here and we hope you guys will like it. As for the "battle" system... you will be able to act on a per turn basis. That's all I can say for now :)

I like a lot turn based, but wonder why it's popular only on DS. Totally agree it's better to do something very well than to do something new, if both are possible, it's rare and amazing.

About picking fresher idea from game history, why not mix the best fight idea like in Torchlight and merge them in a turn based system?

    That means skills like:
    • Push back enemies either a jump pushing back enemies around
    • either push back enemy attacked,
    • push back enemies in front,
    • Attack that stun with same variations than above for push back.
    • Attack that use bounce shot for some long range attack,
    • Attack that use "through" shot, sort of beam like?
    • Long range attack not stopped by obstacles.
    • Brutal fast move forward bashing enemies on path,
    • Aura slowing down enemies.
    • A spirit that envelop you (it is transparent) and attack enemies close by with the attack characteristics similar to your (with a scaling)
    • A temporary push back stance, when you move, enemies on path or close by are pushed back.
    • A close range attack that hit enemies in front half circle.
    • A special attack slow but massive that transform your sword in a giant sword with a long range.
    • An area earthquake making enemies movement very disturbed/slowed with a chance of stun.
    • Some stance like increase attack and decrease defense, the reversed stance.
    • Some attack skills that allow teleport enemy.
Yeah yeah I'm a fan of Torchlight :D but well there's nice idea in it even if it's not the perfect game, quote that not all listed above are implemented in Torchlight.

Woo have you played Torchlight? I know it has flaws and default difficulty setup is a lot too easy but it's a kicking a.. game.

I did play it through and thought it was terrible, for the reasons you mention among others. Couldn't understand how it got decent reviews. Some equipment and skill combos seemed hugely imbalanced.

I've played quite a few "clones" of Diablo or games inspired by Diablo. My favorites so far have been Titan Quest and TorchLight. Titan Quest probably comes closest to Diablo II in terms of replayability. There is actually a deeper skill system than the Diablo games. You choose 2 classes and balance the skills among them the way you want. Once you get to the 3rd difficulty level, some of the combos can be incredibly challenging to survive with. Still an active fan community and the game seems to be pretty cheap on Steam (for PC).

I had a lot of fun with Torchlight. It wasn't very challenging, but I still liked the atmosphere and game play. I didn't have any desire to play through after completing it, though.

@ Qordobo - Thanks for all your input Qordobo. Our combat system is going to be a little bit different but there will be some special "Class" skills your character can learn/choose from. I won't go into detail quite yet but as with everything in our game it will grow with time. What you guys have to keep in mind is that we aren't a 50-100 man strong team like Blizzard or other big names. So patience is the key here. The first release will be solid but we already have bigger plans for the future so suggestions after the first release are of course welcome.

We will have a dedicated website with forum where people can make suggestions and such.

@Riggysmalls - There is a chance that Dungeon Legend will be ported to iPad after we released it on iPad. We will have to see what kind of changes we have to make due to the smaller screensize and so forth.

@All - Again, we aren't trying to clone Diablo, Torchlight or whatever else RPG. We sure love all these games as well (of course no game is perfect) but our goal is to create a game that we the developer like to play ourselves and if the people (you) like it as well then that's great. Of course, we can't please all of you but we sure try to please many.

That would be amazing Thomas, and I'm glad it's not going to be a direct clone!

If you need any help with CBT for iphone later I would be more than happy :)

Feel free to choose any of the plenty "Hack'n'Slash" RPG's out there :) We are aware that not everybody likes turn based RPG's but as a matter of fact we do so therefore it will be turn based. We are somewhat "old school" in that regard.

"Turn based" gives you the chance of thinking about your next "action" and that is something many people appreciate and love since the actual battle/fights become more "tactical".
