You should be thankful that Gameloft is actually making these console type games for the iPhone. If the 'official' developers aren't going to bring their games to the iPhone, I don't see what is wrong with gameloft making similar games for the iPhone.
I never thought that I would beat Spiffyone in correcting someone http://forums.toucharcade.com/showpost.php?p=459171&postcount=18
Well, it is one of many genres that do the same. As such, that is not what defines what an RPG is in terms of game genre classification. Your next statement gets closer to the truth so I hope that readers of your post will take your post as a whole rather than in parts (as, sadly, so often happens on message boards). Correct. Really stats (which I helpfully put in bold) are the crux of RPGs of all kinds, including action/RPGs. There are some games in which stats are user assigned (most WRPGs), some where they are assigned at random (most JRPGs), and some where stat upgrades are actually tied into the inventory/item system (items increasing stats when used, worn, equipped, etc.). There are games that even have two of those or all three. If there aren't any stats, it ain't an RPG, as you've already alluded. Well, quite a few adventure games do the same, hence, IMHO, the confusion over action/RPGs and action/adventure games. It's partly the reason why some people erroneously label a game like the LoZ series as the former when it is truly in the latter category. That and the whole "medieval" setting of those games, IMHO, puts the idea of "RPG" in some people's heads, as if fantasy necessary equates automatically to an RPG in video games. Eh...there's no real need to add the "hack 'n slash" behind that, as it is what makes up the "action" component of the game. Action/adventure alone would suffice without further elaboration, IMHO. It's not an LoZ style action/adventure, but more of a GoW (or, rather, DMC) style action/adventure. While I agree with your assessment, I wouldn't use Apple's categories as gospel. They get most things wrong. You'll see games that are not in any way adventure games in the adventure category, for instance.
Yes...taking my gig while I'm away? How cheeky of you. To make it up, I've elaborated further on your post, as you can see. Don't take it the wrong way...I've got to make up for the lost opportunity
BTW, I never thought that pic of Tommy Lee Jones was an example of an implied facepalm. Unless it was the other person's face to which he would apply his palm, in the form of a slap.
i think it will be like Zelda, those colorful glass windows reminds me of it,hahaha i hope it's in full 3d,i more prefer RPGs like final fantasy, chrono cross,suikoden... i'm not into different classes or something, the story is what i want, hahahahah
I see how this is going to turn out...But anyway, Gamevil are really the kings when it comes to RPGs, and knowing Gameloft I'll pass until I get some more details...
its kinda silly to tell someone what video game is or isnt an "rpg" when the whole thing is really subjective. you guys made up that definition for what an rpg is because that is your point of view. its not the true definition of what an rpg is because there is none. an rpg is just a genre and genres arent defined by specific criteria or rules and things dont have to be bound to just one genre. its all a matter of personal assessment.
someone who agrees... wait for the flamers to come and "try to correct that which is wrong". I hate how people do not consider it an rpg.
Ok, everyone, RPG = Role Playing Game Q.What do you do in every single game? A.Play the role of someone/something Therefore: Every game = RPG Pwned
lol yes, while that is true, i find that the deepness of link i guess just make you get more into the whole role-playing aspect of it. (was that post meant to mean that im pwned?? cause your agreeing with me...)
do you not upgrade your sword skills, or your armor in zelda, do you not choose from possible paths (although all end up the same) do you not go on some quest or collect items? is the environment not open?? i dont get why it cant be classified as an rpg
