For free games, it's essential to wait for events for free gears. And from the point system for the 5 days event, you are spot on when grinding purely on the event dungeon is needed to hit the armor and weapon. Well even U don't hit the armor and weapon, there are still some gems for you earn for lower tier rewards. End of day=event=freebies. That's balance.
with 2 hours left of the event i managed to get the mats i need for making my armor and weap 5star, had to waste like 50 gems on pots though.. i cant belive how rare it was to get Dark mats compared to the other ones.. probably got 10 of each other before i got 2 dark pieces

On the bright side, check the wiki for those items, and I can guarantee they can be evolved to 5 stars, versus the 3 star max evo you find for free.
This guy just said slots actually cost 10 gem each while most people have it at 10 gem for 5 slot. Meh... Isn't that like way too expensive?

You've hit the massive paywall that will hit all free players like a ton of bricks. I think buying gear chests is the only way past it unless these other 5 day missions that are being discussed are beatable with 3* gear
Stuck waiting for tomorrow's event to get my gear to 3 but it sucks that gear has limits, it said you could use anything you like through all of the game but if it won't go to 5 star you can't? The staff ive been using and my alt weapon both say on the wiki they only go to 3 star, how am I suppose to get 4 and 5 star items other than purchases?
So once you've hit the paywall you can pay 30-60$ for a full experience? Wrong. It's hundreds. The game is extremely fun but he's right. We as players are about to hit a massive paywall. By massive I mean: you cannot play until you've spent enough money to get certain weapons / armor / spells. Which will take hundreds. I've hit silver 2 rank already. Going against a lot of 4 * minions now which surpass me. Can't de-rank unless I spent my energy loosing which rewards me with nothing and it's an hour per energy. Also: maxed at my potential of 3* gear can't do the dailys for 4* evo mats. Lots of people in chat have been discussing this wall. It's going to be massively unfair. Maybe they didn't think this all the way through? Edit: Some in chat are paying a dollar per slot, ouch.
You guys are so incredibly impatient. Do you expect to be able to farm hell difficulty gear in Diablo first week of launch? This is not even out for a week, if you don't plan on using cheat codes aka spending a boat load of money you need to work your way up. Yes that means you will not be able to take on the hardest contents right away. You need to at the very least, get a max set of 3-star gear, and collect some potions. Then do events to get 3 star gear that can be upgraded to 4-5 stars. Some more tips for 0-dollar players: 1) Use the staff, I was wrong about crossbow being better, the staff does AOE damage, combined with life leech is stronger than the crossbow early on. Unlike melee you can kill without taking damage if you have a tank friend. 2) Get the 10-hit skill, I think it is one of the few specials from drops that can be 4-stared, 4 second invulnerability window. This makes your character much much stronger. 3) Try to have one piece of gear with each element and always use experience booster on the same color gear. 50% experience is a LOT.
Great tips everyone should use. Been doing this and its been working out for me. Im not trying to power through the game or anything; you simply cant with F2P games or else you'd be spending hundreds of bucks @hitmanb i wouldnt call them incredibly inpatient though
