I don't know about that Adam... I saw links to where their pre-order "photo" of a unit was photoshopped, and in 24 hours the screen was bigger...lol. No video, no press reviews that I can see... I would hate to be one of the people pre-ordering this thing to find out it can't run much. If it was android based, maybe... but a proprietary system, with their own store, with NO solid info, pictures, or otherwise about it... Just seems like if it was such a great device, wouldn't they have videos of it in action, videos of their store? Now, the Integra2 tablets coming from Acer have me VERY interested. I saw the DD:FW video showing the Acer Integra 2 10" Tablet running the game, and researched it... and if that thing releases for less than an iPad I'm buying one no question. (7" I think starts at 299 and goes up to max 699 for top of the line 10" tablet)
Damn, I just lost the Ogre Crush on hard on the last wave solo'ing with my Mage. There were only two Ogre left on that wave (13/15). But that was so much fun... I found tons of epic/legendary/godly stuff... unfortunately my equipped stuff was better from the beginning . So I sold everything (worth of > 110,000 Mana) and upgraded my godly weapon to Level 10. So, If you need stuff, experience or Mana for upgrades, just play Ogre Crush on the hardest level possible for you!
I'm hoping to try some challenges later, after my device recharges... I hope these new tablets coming can hold a charge better than this Ipod 3GS, it's a joke when trying to play any substantial game. I get 30 minutes in before it's dead on most 3D games, sometimes less.
Not soon enough! Been looking forward to this one. The 4.2 requirement was a blow, good news an update is coming, but (for me) just prolongs the wait! I'm not turned off by reports of horrible tutorials (one must assume this will be fixed, possibly already is in update) or controls. But would y'all who've played comment on how you'd like the controls to be different? Swipe to look and pinch to zoom have been mentioned, would that alleviate most complaints? Do you feel that would free up the "clutter" onscreen? And do you feel that there are too many imbedded menus? i.e. one must go three menus deep to heal?
The only problems I have with the controls comes from typical auto-camera issues that plauge just about any 3d game like this, and the slowdown on harder levels with more enemies can make it difficult to move precisely at times. Thinking more about it, other than suggestions I made previously, I would also suggest to the developers to just make one loot button, and send loot straight to your inventory, instead of having a button for inventory and one for equip. The swipe for camera could work, but I see how that will be more work, because it wouldn't be able to work while you are placing and adjusting towers, healing towers, etc... because those already use touch gestures. For me though, I rarely adjust the camera at this point enough to care about the less than ideal map/camera buttons and placement. Making the virtual pad translucent/slightly transparent might not be a bad idea, but isn't a game-breaker for me. Maybe if they could get rid of/adjust the mini-map and camera controls, they could place a "Heal Hero" button there, but I haven't had any trouble with that either... because of how the heal works (leaves you vulnerable while healing), I move out of the action, and am quickly healing. Hasn't been an issue for me so far, at least on Easy and Medium difficulties through the first 4 campaign levels.
If i don't get wrong the update is planned to 2 January (more or less).. finally i bought the game.. the ui is a lot chaotic.. for example i think the pause button is too large.. the wave display with the def units, and the skill icons could be minimized into an icon, with a ''submenu'' like the circle menu.. for the map rotation why not a simple touch and drag? the menu of char and inventory are a bit confusionary too.. so the UI is very bad for me.. on the other side i like the gameplay a lot very funny.. hope with the patch the ui and controls will be more ''user-friendly'' oh, a question.. why i should accumulate mana to the forge?
Make use of gestures I suppose? Or do the epic citadel style of movement (touch screen to move there, panning around whilst doing those. *I know this is already implemented but there isn't object collision .) Or you'd have to touch your character then slide it to the general direction you want it to go? Personally mandatory touching your character then moving it to where you want seems more intuitive than the current "No Virtual joypad" control which I use and find clunky when the framerate drops below bearable. The benefits of doing so would be less movements plus your finger is centered, you could map the UI around it and have more space and it'll be more intuitive I suppose? Also I liked the touch tower to upgrade/sell and for info rather then having a set of commands for it. Since i'm already spamming, I might as well voice out, I think tower placement is a chore and the range can BARELY be seen. Possible, having a geodefence type of placement, having the tower ABOVE your finger so you can see it would be better? That being said one of the problems with the existing zoom/rotate buttons are they become non-responsive. Also, the minimap is not very.. helpful at times to reorientate yourself. Other than that, I just really want my performance inprovements, wooooooo January!
They do have some coverage, but the screen and generally the whole package is attractive, I love the UI. But no Android Marketplace. They have "Genesis" but unless Trendy wants to bother optimizing it for their custom version of FroYo.. Meh. Then again, DD:FW runs on 1024 x600 which is the resolution of it's PixelQI screen
I have no issues with the UI. Everything is neccessary and I have never had issues with seeing things properly. The only thing that annoyed me was the tutorials and I just turned them off.
While we arent getting rid of auto-camera, we are experimenting with camera controls a little more. Waves may begin at 2 or 3 because depending on your difficulty level, the earlier waves would be too easy/a waste of time =)
We plan to submit the first update around new years... We don't know what our turnaround time will be and sadly we don't get priority like some other larger developers might =)
Game Impressions Lol. Same here. This is a great game, and the controls work out brilliantly if you're patient and take the time to learn them. The tutorial was a bit long winded, but very informative. There is a LOT to this game. And it's a lot of fun. This is a very good tower defense / RPG.
as long as you keep playing really. Speaking of which does this remind anyone of a 3d Defender Chronicles?? some many things are similar. Different heroes which you can level up and upgrade. You can get items and improve your towers. Also there are lots of levels and the goal is beat each on the hardest level which is quite a challenge.
SlideToPlay gave us a 4 star review: http://www.slidetoplay.com/story/dungeon-defenders-first-wave-ipad-review?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed:+SlideToPlay+(Slide+To+Play+Top+Stories) Not that I'm disagreeing with TouchArcade or 148Apps reviews, but I'm glad they were able to look past the UI.
I really don't understand what some people have against the UI. After reading through a few passionate complaints, I was expecting an unusable mess. But after spending some quality time with the game today, I didn't find it confusing at all. In fact, I think you did an excellent job organizing so many functions. I think some people just have very strong personal preferences, and they allow these preferences to get in the way of objectivity. If you look at most of the games Touch Arcade raves about, they tend to be very simple and "retro." How can people who are passionate about 1-button games with CGA graphics appreciate something as complex as Dungeon Defenders? In general, I think Touch Arcade is a fine site, with good writers, and mostly good reviews. That's one of the reasons why I come here. But they couldn't be more wrong about this game.
Hi I just got the game recently. I've been banking all this mana and been reading I could upgrade my items. How do I upgrade? I'm in the Tavern clicking all sorts of stuff... but haven't found the option. Thanks for any help.
