Anyone else annoyed with the review this game recieved?

No mention that it's the second game to utilize Unreal Engine, how awesome the leveling system is for player, weapons, and towers. Most importantly how Trendy guys have been listening and promising us updates. Oh yeah! Comparing this game to Lara Croft in any way!? Whoever played this game and reviewed it didn't give the game a chance.

  2. Why does my weapon do fire damage when it's not listed in the stats ?

Yeah I think the review is a little harsh but there are some faults which you have to overcome in its current state to enjoy the game. I think alot of iOS gamers are looking for instant happiness when they play and the first experience with this game is the annoying tutorial where the text takes up half the page and hangs there. I can see why some people are turned off.

I love it though. All I play is this and COD Black Ops.

Brad and I spent the majority of the weekend playing this game and working on this review and the reason it wasn't posted last week like every other big release was because we spent so much time with it and tried to give the game a chance... So, no, sorry. :(

So you don't believe it's important to mention this is the next game to use the Unreal Engine on a mobile device? Or discuss the details of it's in depth leveling up system? I find that extremely hard to understand. It's like your whole review was based solely on how disappointed you were with the controls. Even if they were that bad, those two points are very important.

The review pretty much nailed all of the issues with this game. I have deleted this game already but will keep an eye out for updates that may fix some of the issues

What difference does it make what engine it uses if the game isn't fun because of an insane control scheme? How in depth do we need to get on the character customization to satisfy your needs?

The consensus on these forums from what I see is that once you get past some control clunkiness the game is amazingly fun with a level of depth not seen in any other mobile game.

But then again, being a developer, I may be biased... :) It's not the most favorable review, but then again we cannot expect a different demographic to completely embrace a console game completely converted to mobile.

    HodApp, whats your gamecenter name?

Don't worry you have lots of loyal followers and having played this on iOS has me psyched for the Console version.

You guys will absolutely love the console version. 100% of the complaints on mobile are absolute non-issues on console/PC currently.

I think it's very important actually. How many games out there use this engine? 2. It's a very ambitious title that JUST was released. But I have been a gamer for ages and graphics are important. To ask what difference does it make instead of believing you should care about giving the details that every other legitimate website mentions to it's readers is beyond me. Why was infinity blade so damn hyped up? It was the graphics. Sure the controls on that game are great and it's fun, but the engine was the hype. You didn't even mention the leveling up system either...how much more in depth you ask? How bout mention it all? I am so disappointed at this conversation. I read this website every 10 minutes practically for reviews and I think you dropped the ball. It's my opinion and I think this game has amazing potential and in it's current state is better than most apps on the iPhone.

Well, once again I guess you need to decide if you'd prefer an honest review based on our opinion of a game, which it seems like what most people demand... Or if you'd like us to just regurgitate your opinion back to you. If that's all you want, Brad and I could have spent our weekend doing something else than giving this game a thorough play through. :)

You spend a whole WE on it and didn't enjoyed it? That's a little hard to believe. And if you do and enjoyed it that much then I think you didn't succeed transmit this in the review, this fun and pleasure you took.

Objective details is one thing, real fun of the game is another and is the most important.

From my point of view, it's not fair to write: "If you're not, I'd stay away from Dungeon Defenders until it hits Xbox Live Arcade, PSN, and PC at some point." from a game you enjoyed up to play it a full WE. Not to mention the links with the Lara game is totally out of context not many people would have play it anyway.

Just my 2 cents obviously I can't learn you write reviews. :D

I feel like many others that have stated once they proceeded past the tutorial, the game really started to shine.

It's not THAT bad of controls, I don't understand all of the gripes. I use the virtual D-Pad to move, I've never had an issue placing a tower nor orienting it's attack direction. I jump, attack, run around, heal towers.

I'm not what I would consider a HARDCORE gamer. I'm not a mental strategy nut that can crunch numbers in my head based on things like DPS and all. I just like to hack on stuff, collect loot that seems to be more powerful, and have fun while doing it.

I have yet to play online, but single player through the first 2 campaign levels was just fine, and I had a heck of a lot of fun. Most of the buttons on the screen are needed, except for the camera controls. They could easily implement swipe to move and pinch to zoom. I would also like to be able to zoom out even further in some cases, or maybe a behind-the-shoulder view would be a nice option.

I don't know if the review is too far off base or not. On one hand, the review is accurate to an extent, but the addition of things like saying the controls can never be fixed, is simply wrong and misleading. Many apps (which TouchArcade favorably reviewed back in the day) had crap controls that were made infinately better after many, many updates.

On the flipside, Aralon has it's issues but TouchArcade didn't suggest not to buy it because of crashes, graphic glitches, and other assorted errors. Nor did they suggest Aralon's issues couldn't be fixed. I think that one statement really killed the DD review.

We spent the weekend on it because we take reviews seriously, especially when they're games we don't recommend. Before we complain about a game, we make sure our complaints are justified. That required playing the game a ton.

You never even mentioned loot...I think you were just upset that the isn't playable for you...but I think it's totally playable, and I've seen lvl 60 squires and apprentices who will tell you the same. But seriously , I am sure you want to give us the honest opinion, but you really never mentioned the leveling up or unreal engine. If someone asked you, "well I love loot and upgrading gear, and high lvl cap goodness..." would you recommend the game then? Tell Trendy their game is hopeless and can't be fixed, but then they would say they are working on an update. I just didnt like this review.

I wonder if Infinity Blade would have gotten the same review comments if the graphics were inferior... The game is mainly known because of the graphic engine it uses...

But I like the game, regardless of what is said, it's probably one of the best I got last week (and I bought 6 games). To each his own I guess.

Yeah... the controls currently will put a lot of players off for sure. It takes getting used to. However make no mistake that this is an AAA title. I would even go as far as to say that the game is superb even without the multi-player. Personally I think the developers should have spent their time and resources on building this game from the ground up (the controls and UI) for the iPhone instead of working on things like multi-player. You don't want to turn off players.

I highly disagree with the review with regards to the game balance; it is very possible to beat the game on Easy (or even Medium) playing alone, provided you are able to obtain decent gear. Yeah it's difficult, but that's the whole point. The difficulty (and, there's 4 degrees of it) makes the game very rewarding to play and offers tremendous replay value rarely seen in any tower defense or action RPG like game (and that's saying A LOT!). Think about it, what Tower Defense game gives you nearly as much customizability as DunDef? Sure an action RPG might have just as much loots and levels, but leveling up in an action-RPG most of the time can feel like a chore. Dungeon Defenders is mixing in the best of both worlds. I have never had so much fun leveling up my character in any other game.

I also tend to disagree with the use of the D-pad in the review. Sure it is a D-pad, but it works VERY WELL! The UI maybe cluttered and all, but the D-pad is by far one of the best I have used in any iOS game. I have never had an issue with the D-pad, it was very responsive and does the job well. I don't think a touch or drag moving method would work because, unlike most dumb action RPGs, you actually need to keep running to dodge attacks in this game.

I think Dungeon Defenders is very high up there in terms of game value among the best iOS titles, but the controls, camera and UI does hinder the experience a lot, making it difficult to recommend to more casual players (the biggest pie of the market really). Hopefully with the updates coming to the UI and camera will change that.

The cool thing is there's nothing stopping you from writing your own review. :D
