I felt the same way until I got past the tutorial. I have played for a couple hours now and I am really enjoying it. The gems (mana) drops and you are able to accumulate an amount up to your current max (mine is 80). You can take that mana and put it in your bank to use later during the building phase or just keep collecting and building. I have been trying to bank a little between each phase just in case. I am starting to understand the loot collecting as well. I think what might have helped is to go through a few phases in the tutorial and then immediately be taken to my tavern so I could figure out how to better view equipment and how to trade it between my characters. In all, once I got through the tutorial text boxes - that wouldn't go away in some cases when I was ready to move on - and the learning curve, I started to have fun. I enjoyed a multiplayer game as well. It has a DOtA/GOW Horde mode feel that incorporates more strategy than I expected. I almost turned it off for good during lunch and was on my way to playing more Aralon. I gave DD one more try and got back late from lunch because I lost track of time. That's saying something considering my attention span is the size of a pea.
I like the concept of this game but will need an update. And spanish translations sucks a lot in this game too, I miss an english text option or a better traduction. I just discovered an option to turn off the pad and that changes the button positions and leaves more screen to see better the action. The controls then work with touch to go or touch a direction to go that way, double tap to jump and there are buttons to attack and the other things. For me is a better way to play it. I am trying to learn the basics of the game but is awesome and I will buy it in Xbox too.
Never before have I HATED a tutorial so much! the voiceover is great! it gives info you need. but the GIANT box-o-text is in the way! it also seems to have some A.D.D. going on... sometimes it told me to try something then moved on before I had a chance to try what it was asking... other times it told me to try something and just left the box-o-text up a long time after I had completed the task! I REALLY like the game alot but I almost did play it because the tutorial was so frustrating!
It's funny that people will give up on a game so easily. Because it tells me that people paid $2.99 to play a tutorial and then gave up. It's like going to college and dropping out because its too hard and confusing. In other words, I'd be happy to pay in-app purchases for more content (more campaigns/challenges etc) Never before have I been more pleased with a paid game app, especially an original one. I just dropped $30 the last two weeks on great iOS apps and probably will spend more these holidays, knowing I'm getting gift cards.
Wouldn't it make more sense to move all of the MP game requests to a different thread and leave this one open for gameplay discussions?
Looks like this game isn't selling very well.. I presumed most people just gave up after the controls / camera. Those of us who have managed to get past the tutorial and actually tried to win a few waves would probably agree that this game looks amazing, is engaging and quite deep. To get there though you would probably need to spend at least 2 hours+. But to be completely honest I am still getting frustrated with the game's camera and menus from time to time. Besides the camera and very unintuitive menus (the Item Box in the Forge is also ridiculously laid out on the iPhone; you can't see the buttons because they are covered up by mini item stats). They really need to rework the UI on this game. Another thing that was bothering me was how the placement of towers work. I think other than the wall barrier the other towers should automatically rotate instead of making the user to choose its direction/ angle. Sometimes it's really hard to see the angle of the towers. It's not that bad but could have been better. I also think some kind of a grid overlay would help us place the towers. It looks like there are no stat resets for the game. I am already started to feel like I should restart my character but considering just how long the game takes to level up, I almost wanted to stop playing until they release an update with the resets. I have made 3 heroes so far, starting over isn't exactly fun. I gifted this app to a few of my friends / guild mates with iPhones and they pretty much agreed with all of these things. It's a shame because Dungeon Defenders has the potential to be the one of the best games of all time on iOS. We just can't recommend the game in its current state. PS: I HATE falling off to the lava! Whoever thought that was a good idea you need to think about stop pissing off your players... Especially when sometimes it is the automatic camera's fault. Personally I feel that this game is actually priced too low, for $2.99 it is a steal BUT they NEED to fix all of the above things. It should be selling for at least $5 or even $10 with updates. Don't buy the game right now because it'll probably leave you with a poor first impression. I firmly that believe the controls and camera can be improved substantially, the Developers should look at some other iOS games for inspiration. Maybe I can tolerate with the controls but many others won't. Especially coming from an iPhone where the UI of the device feels so intuitive...
I'm loving the game, but I have a few suggestions... It would be really comfortable if you could have the item place (forgot what it was called), and be able to have the menu the same way you're holding the device during gameplay. Also, the rotation controls for the camera are uncomfortable, and I suggest adding swipe-to-rotate, or the option to have that. Apart from these suggestions, really enjoying the game. Keep up the good work!
Still keeps crashing on my iPad 4.2 Even after reinstalling Still, yould have been updated to retina display. But yes after the tutorial it is a good and deep rpg.
+1, please add swipe to move camera, pinch to zoom and a better menus more IOS friendly. Awesome game like it is!!
It is #31 in the paid game apps list right now (US store), so I'd say it is selling pretty well. I will pick it up at some point and hopefully some of the issues people are mentioning are addressed!
