I picked up this game but it's off my device until some of the bugs are finally fixed. I still haven't had a lag free single player game. It's damn near unplayable at parts. I really had high hopes for this game and I hate to rail on a developer, but the execution for this game on iOS has been pathetic. I don't regret the purchase because if by chance some things are fixed, this could turn into one of the best games on the platform. I'm just scared that like with some other games with potential but glaring bugs/technical issues, they wont ever really be fixed. Unless this gets turned around, I'm really going to hesitate to pick up future Trendy Ent titles. I get the console releases are a big deal (probably much better potential financially), but I also think it's bad business to start something, botch it and then not have any relief in site.
Hey - Is it Jst Me - Or is everybody having a hard time logging into Trendyent's website 2day? Oh-no's - I Hope I have Not Been Ban !!!
what are you guys playing this on? and what is your internet speed. i just downloaded this game about a week ago for my ipad2. does not lag at all, and i have played several online matches hassel free. run a speed test on your phone while connected to wifi and see what your at. im at 20down, and 2up. not the best but i trouble free. that being said....the ipad2 does trump all other devices. but even on my ip4 this game runs well, cramped, but well.
the ip4 runs the game great except when there are a lot of enemies on screen, even at half-graphics it lags really really badly in some places.
This is not what I call running well. Basically it's ok during all the times you don't need it (ie. when nothing is on-screen). The fact that it can drop to single-digit framerates multiple times during a game is already an indication of poor performance.
solution... everyone buy a ipad2... problem solved.. and there main site has been down all day today..maybe some rebels are trying to make a point? ha
This game had so much promise. Alas, I've lost interest a while back. The new maps were too time-consuming and often crashed near the last couple of waves. And yep, still waiting on those Guardians.
No reason the ipad 1 cant run like that. Just shows poor coding on their part. I'm about to delete the game because of poor performance and lack of updates to correct that performance.
That's like saying that there's no reason that Gears of War 2 can't run like that on a 6-year-old MacBook. Dungeon Defenders has a lot of particle effects and is in a relatively large 3D world, with so many things happening. If you compare it to Infinity Blade, which is also on Unreal Engine, IB has two moving players (or 3 with you, the guard, and the God King) at once, in a static environment. Much of the time is cutscenes, so you can't really move around. However, in DD, there can be something like 50 enemies on-screen at once, and it's online, with 3 other people. Additionally, you can move freely, place towers (which are even more processor intensive than enemies), and pick up the tons of items that are dropped (and mana).
This was released before iPad 2 was released. Nowhere did it state that it would run like shit on everything except iPad 2. I have just deleted this from my devices. To be honest I find it shocking that it is still on the App store. We (iOS users) are now being shunned and ignored because they are getting the console version ready. They have had our money and now they don't care. It has been out long enough that they should have sorted it out by now.
You can't sort something out that's not physically possible. A lot of optimizations have been made since version 1.0, and it almost never crashes anymore. I've had it on my iPad 1 and now my iPad 2, and it was fine on my iPad 1. There have also been content updates adding 3 maps, 4 challenges, a tavernkeep, familiars, and many other things, so you definitely have not been ignored.
New maps and familiars are great but if the game doesn't run properly what's the point. The developer easily could make several options for us to adjust the graphics settings but nothing has been down. The resolution slider does nothing, giving us options to lower model detail, lighting, particle effects etc.. would be an improvement. Like the other poster pointed out the dev clearly has moved on to consoles now. You mentioned Infinity Blade hardly having anything moving, what about Rage, Nova 2? I know it's a different engine but it is possible.
The difference is the Gears of War 2 minimum and recommended specs make it clear a 6 year old Macbook didn't have the hardware to handle the game. On the other hand, this game is not an iPad only game, therefore it is expected it also runs well on iPhone/iPod Touch. If the game has too much going on for the smaller devices to handle, then either release it an iPad only game or find a way to optimize it for the smaller devices. Hell, split iPad and iPhone/iPod Touch releases would be better than this. Either Trendy got in over their head or their desire to release this on as many devices as possible got in the way of quality. In either case, Trendy looks bad in the end. All in all, how this whole situation is being handled really irritates me. They are spending all their time optimizing this for iPad 2 and the console releases while the overwhelming majority of their customers still can't play a relatively bug free game at a solid frame rate. It's pretty poor way to treat your customers.
If it's not physically possible for this game to run correctly on the smaller devices, then it should have NEVER been released on those devices. Period.
I love how people are still whining about performance for DD. I play on an ipod touch 3g, and i can play all boards perfectly on local, and lag on the internet largely depends on the host. Most of the time, when playing with people i know, i have excellent connections and good framerate even on the internet. For best performance, do a hard reboot of your device. If u don't, well, yer retarded if u still want to complain about performance issues. Regardless, I don't play the game too much because i've accomplished pretty much everything that matters, but the game is still fun to play once in awhile and i would recommend it to anyone that likes the playstyle. If u wanna level up fast, just go to the webchant.freenode.com #dungeondefenders, and there are always nice folks willing to help people level up. Have fun kids, and find something else to do other than whine. If u can't play it on your device, im guessing its not so much the programs problem as something else. My ipod 3g rocks this game, what else do i need to say?
I would like to know how many games you actually played online with your 3G, and on what difficulty. Most maps are PLAYABLE, but if you are suggesting that there are never any single digit framerate drops playing online or off (and I played on wifi, very stable connection) you are flat out lying or just never played the game enough. You can notice framerate issues early, especially once you have placed all of your towers and the later waves get going, and this is on EASY mode. I was able to play through everything on Easy, but not without a few frustrations. However, once you start playing Hard and Insane, it is pretty much unplayable on many of the maps, especially online. Alchemical Laboratory on Hard lagged so bad online, it was really trying my patience to stay with the game. The game was a slideshow, we still somehow managed to take the boss down to almost dead, and then BAM... game crash. Even solo, on hard and insane that level can stutter like mad. Even after a hard reboot. BTW - learn about memory management and programming before you call people retards for not hard rebooting their phones every time they want to launch a game. If the device can't handle the game without the user having to manually shut down functions and jump through hoops to make it run, then the game shouldn't have been released for that device. They shouldn't have taken this game and just tried to cram the code onto mobile devices with some minor tweaks. THAT is why this game has failed on mobile, and failed miserably. And they have said that a lot of the systems in the game WONT be changed to make it work for mobile. What we have now, is what it is and will be. BTW - They have now made the game free on Android, and this last update erased all of my save data AND the damn backup. You still want to make excuses for these devs? They implement a backup system and SWEAR and PROMISE to everyone that this will NOT happen again, yet here I am... I can either lose 2 weeks of play and restore from a full tablet backup I made on the 19th of this month, but I lose a good bit of progress on my new apprentice (Tower build). Had I not made my own manual backup of my entire android tablet back then, I wouldn't have any save file left at all! So now I have data loss on iOS and Android multiple times. I am completely done with this game, and I will NOT be supporting DD or Trendy in the future. This game was never intended for mobile, it shows terribly, and they keep telling people "Well, new devices will help make it run better!" LMAO! That's terrible! I have a Tegra2 tablet, which does run the game better than the iPhone 3/4 does, but even it still has some framerate issues on the later maps and harder difficulties. Soon as a bunch of towers start going off and there are more than 20 enemies on the screen, seems like things take a dip. It should not be this way.
I ain't trying to defend the devs so much, as to just laugh at people. Look, I had my characters get wiped twice, once from the 4.2 update, and another time when i was "macroing" hard core on v. 1.0 to get back up to my previous levels. And then i learned to make a backup, and stopped thinking about these problems. Hell, going back to 1.0 to 2.0, to 4.3 got me way better stuff than i originally had anyway, 4 whole sets of ~80 resist armor on 5.0, 7 different level 70 characters, etc etc. I have played every single map, on hard/insane, etc. I had forgotten, but I do have to say Death from Above is extremely difficult due to lag, so I agree with that part. But ramparts insane is easy cake, and I hardly get any lag, even with 4 people online as long as the host connection is decent. Locally, I dont lag at all. The only other lag issue I really noticed was on monstet farm (or whatever the kill all the monsters challenge is called) where the game lagged hardcore with tons of huntress traps, and tons of monk auras. This was on insane difficulty with 3 total people online. We found out if we got rid of the huntress flame traps (the long lasting trap that lets out a bunch of fire damage), then the lag/framerate went back to completely playable. So all Im saying is the game requires a little bit of testing to perhaps find the optimal way of getting things done, but considering the game completely pushes the ios to the breaking limits, im not too shocked nor dissapointed. I've played this thing since the very beginning, noticed significant performance increases since version 1.0, and am happy with the fact that the devs have tried their best with numerous updates to make the game as playable as possible considering the limitations of the device. I know im not too alone on this, as many many other people i have met on irc chat for dungeon defenders are all able to play the game and have a lot of fun. Sure, sometimes the game crashes at the worst possible times, and its really damn annoying, but the majority of the time the game is a blast to play. I certianly got my money's worth, sorry some others just cant seem to figure it out. What I really dont understand is the vile and venom I hear on these forums towards the developers. I mean, yea, the games not perfect, but jesus its just a game, and a damn cheap one at that. I payed 2.99, and frankly, in the world of games, real games, that aint nothing. Hell, I recently spet $20 bucks in 3 hours playing super street fighter 4 arcade edition at $1.50 a game, and THAT felt like a waste of money in comparison to the efficient money usage I got out of DD. /rant
