Framerate is really low on my ipad, sometimes unplayable =(. I can't try it on my phone because I don't want to update to 4.2.
After playing this for a bit more I am finally getting used to the Camera, just never touch the rotation / zoom controls. I am not even sure why the zoom function was included, ahem not sure why would anyone not want to be viewing as much of the map as possible. The game's UI (menus, the Forge, etc) really need to be redone IMO. Especially the Item Box. The artwork looks nice but it is very very frustrating. Navigation in the Item Box should have been a straight forward scrolling UI, whatever it is currently is not what you might be used to. I would have preferred all the menus to be landscape but if you guys can't do that then at least make it all portrait... the UI should at least be consistent. The back/close buttons also seemed like it's out of place. Back to playing some more
This game is really awesome! Great mix between action rpg and tower defense and the graphics are really polished. Also the presentation is top-notch. I still can't believe this game is just $2.99, really everybody should buy it. Congratulations! and Thanks for creating this awesome game!
Game Impressions Wow, what an absolutely horrible tutorial and interface. Seriously, did somebody actually play through it ONCE before releasing? Text overlays the screen and obscures the view without being able to get rid of it? What, the myriad of confusing, unintuitive icons for the player to sort out weren't deemed sufficient challenge? Infuriating. There might be a decent game underneath the idiocy, but I'm not sure I can be bothered to find out.
Personally I love this! Played two games of four player co op and wow! Incredible! Butcvisuals on th iPad arent as expected.
Ok, so I am very curious as to why everyone is so amped up for all the titles released today yet there is very little hype for Dungeon Defenders. I have to say, I have read every article there is about every single game that was coming out today trying to decide what to buy. From what I have understood so far, Aralon got the most hype, but even though everything the developers have done, it still seems kinda awkward. In terms of controls and graphics. It does have a long ass quest though and tons of leveling up, but its kinda repetitive seeming. I'll be honest I was caught up in the hype too, and even though I haven't played it myself, I just know I will stop playing it after a few hours. Those who don't are just forcing themselves to love the repetitiveness of it all. Give me Epic Citadel RPG already. What is the hold up>? As for NOVA 2, okay, this game sounds fun and all, but at least for me, it seems kinda like more of the same with a little bit updated texturing, some neat rides, but still looks like its hollow. Gameloft games always have this 'hollow feel' to them. Like there is no weight to the enemies or explosions are just weak. Its like seeing lightning, but there is not thunder. Nevertheless, one of the few games I ever beaten all the way through on my Iphone was NOVA 1. So because of the multiplayer, I MIGHT get this one, but not RIGHT AWAY. Real Racing, kick ass graphics, the most costly of the bunch, and I had to get it because the only reason I didn't like the first one was it had fake cars(well they did throw in some VWs, but common) Hopefully they update this one a bit with more selections but overall everyone can agree its the best racing game out. If you don't think so, look how fast EA dropped the price of Hot Pursuit to .99 just moments ago! Maybe its a bit 'simmy' for some, but you can't beat it. Shadow Guardian, seems fun to be honest. But I JUST beat Uncharted 2(I know, I'm a bit behind) so it kinda takes away the urgency to buy this clone. I'll wait for it to go on sale. Kinda like how you wait for a blockbuster movie find its way to netflix. Finally, Dungeon Defenders, the second game using Unreal engine. How amazing right? Yeah it is! And guess what, it's only 2.99! The cheapest of all. It is also a new take on Tower Defenses which we all have been victim to purchasing since the App Store carried those damn games. And you know what, its insane what fun it is. I usually get overwhelmed or underwhelmed really quick. I can't promise I won't forget about it just like all my other apps and just leave it in my App Folder under 'get to it later', but my gut feeling is that I am going to stick around with this one for a while and really dig into the multiplayer. I am thoroughly enjoying the graphics, even if it lags a bit, the depth it has, the loot, the leveling system. I haven't found many players online yet, but I know that will change. Not to mention just how incredibly well the developers implemented all the options on screen. Yeah it gets cluttered, but really!? I am blown away! My choices are in, Dungeon Defenders is the top game released today, and Real Racing will pass the time while I recharge my patience to start another set of waves in Dungeon Defenders. Oh yeah, Tomb Raider, barf! I wish someone could just hide the whole franchise in a Tomb and end it forever. One last note, I apologize for my Run-On sentences. I have never really just expressed myself about a game. DD really got me venting! Get it Fast, Don't think, and just wait a while til you buy the other apps, I swear all the hype will wear off.
Okay some impressions after almost two hours of gameplay and I'm a level 7 mage now. I don't find the tutorial or UI to be horrible as others have said. In fact, I think you just need to get used to it because everything may seem confusing at first. Pushing the map button will overlay the field showing you where enemies and defenses are laid out. It will also show where your allies are. In order to pan the camera around, the left and right pans are located next to the map button and you can zoom in and zoom out. Each menu will bring up another radial menu. Earning achievements will get you items in the tavern i think. Completing the tutorial will result in a trophy showing up in your tavern ala Playstation Home. Each level can take awhile online and there is a boss at the end of the final wave. (for my group it was a Troll). It had a ridiculous amount of HP but we prevailed. I found looting items to be confusing but I have to admit I did jump into the game in excitement to play online multiplayer, which ran smooth on a iPhone 3Gs. I had players drop in and drop out of the game, so even if you do an auto match you may get dropped into a game at the final level. (think Left 4 Dead). The skill tree has about 4 levels I believe, Hero/Abilities/Towers/Resistance. Hero affects your player (health, damage, speed, casting rate) Ability has two options, different for each class Towers affect the structures you built and are pretty much the same as Hero Resistance - how well you can resist certain elements In the tavern there is voice chat for multiplayer. You just need to push the button to speak and it seems like everyone can speak at once. It's a really fun multiplayer. Never played a tower defense cooperatively.
I also want to add, there is about 8 campaign levels and 8 challenges. Each campaign or challenge can be played in Easy, Medium, Hard, or INSANE difficulty. All the campaign levels I have played so far have been on medium and I did die a couple of times as a Mage. This game can really be fun on INSANE with the right people. I'm not sure what the level cap is but you can swap classes in game. Graphics are great and cartoony. I just fired it up again and I think the developers nailed the menu down. It just takes time to getting used to but in game you'll appreciate the menu because the action in the gameplay is fast.
Sounds good enough to me. And it won't hurt to try. If it doesn't work, I can just sync it when the 4.2 jailbreak comes out. Trying that out now. EDIT: Can't seem to find it in Cydia in Modmyi repo for some reason...
Well I like the look of the game and it seems to play well enough, however, I would really like to see a fixed camera option. Also the way the text lays on the screen makes it really hard to see. This is making the tutorial a pain.
Just a quick feedback after to have play in single player the first map but lost during last wave of this map (normal difficulty). Some comment on ipad: The frames per second are ok I didn't notice anything wrong, often iPad versions tend have some problem with that. The interface elements are all too big for iPad, I'm surprised it slip through the iPad testing. You get used to it, but it's unpleasant and lost of view space. This really need a fix even if it's playable anyway. I understand there's many controls elements and it would be tedious to players to have to customize them, but this is really missing in the game. I do agree that symbols on borders to show monsters coming like minigore iphone could help, but as a map complement. There's single player mode: In this mode you use only one hero but between each wave you can switch to another hero of your hero roster. It seems there's 8 maps in this mode, but for each you can use custom setup, changing each map gameplay and difficulty, I haven't explore that yet. Also there are challenges, seems like there's 8 challenges too, you need finish campaign maps to have access to them, not tried yet. There's multiple modes, I don't remember all but one was where it's only towers that can attack monsters, but you need finish the campaign or some maps to have access to it. There's some other modes but I haven't tried any yet. On iPad you never need switch to portrait mode and you can zoom out to get some larger view. There's also a map that could remind you the level and you can move despite the map is full screen, you see the arrow moving. For first map, you can build only three towers, from any hero of your heroes roster. Overall the hero does a lot of job but stats seems indicate that towers still do stuff I had a rate of 2/3 for heroes, 1/3 for towers. Overall, it looks good, the gameplay is a bit confusing but I need more playing to be able do any feedback, because there's some complexity. Frame rate seems good on iPad but interface elements are too big for an ipad and the user should be able customize them, position and size. I'm unable at this point to comment if single player worth it really, at least there's one and it isn't boring, just confusing during first plays, I need play more to get a clear feeling. For the price I feel I made a very good pick anyway, at least it worth the curiosity for me, and for sure I'll play some time, at least to try each map of the campaign and level up a bit few different heroes.
Forgot mention that, I agree with this, text size relatively big is cool, it's nice to have those subtitles for the voices but user should be able close each of those subtitles panels during the tutorial, the more irritating during the tutorial is to not be able close those panels once you think you have read enough. There's an option to disable it, well it seems didn't tried, but for non English people those subtitles panels are required (subtitles are translated in some languages, voices are in english). Also the tutorial pace seems wrong, it seems not synchronized on what is doing the user. And a next option to skip an element of the tutorial would be handy.
Oh man such a great game and only so little time. When I have time enough, everybody else will be on level 100 heaps of work and social attendances in my other life.
Is anyone else not being awarded the Smithy achievement? Or maybe I'm just misunderstanding what it means. I already upgraded a weapon to level 5 and I thought I would've earned it after I got level 2.
Hi guys. Faked my FW from 4.1 to 4.2.1, the game installed, first time i even clicked through the menu and it crashed, and now it crashes right after the intro movies. Has anybody the same problem? BTW, Gamecenter name: Garrik206
