Gotcha... It sounded differently at first... I apologize, However like the person above me said developers don't care about your daddy issues. Either say hey dad here is a buck can you please add this IAP on your Ipad for me or upgrade your Ipod touch.

Yes you are right.. When it's being offered on say the PC for free it is a shame if they would charge for it on IOS devices. Now I'm not quite sure if they are going to charge or just update for free we will just have to see.
However I am quite fine with paying for extra maps/characters/special unobtainable items as long as they are reasonably priced.

Lol ive done that before and he says "its not the same" lol but still i think its unfair that you have to pay for customization and pc players can recover theere characters... no love for the consoles...

From what I understand, the way the PC and Mobile versions are built are different. The PC/Console version is a material based system; henceforth the color can be changed on the fly by switching a value. It clearly makes no sense to charge for this.

On the other hand, the mobile version of the game is a textured based system. All new textures need to be redesigned for each color AND allocated into memory (which is already reaching its limits). Henceforth, if we did add this kind of customization, it would be a significant upgrade and require a dynamic loading system to be created for the game.

So, if in the future we do add it and charge, you'll understand it's not to nickel and dime you; but to recoup the cost it took to build the technical system, create new art assets, etc.

On the other hand, since the NGP build is running the console version, you would be able to have character customization.

You bring up a good point about PC players being able to import their characters to mobile, and truth be told, in the current system the colors would default to the colors currently available on iOS. We are obviously trying to change this for you guys, and its on our list of things to add for mobile.

You all have to understand the limitations of portable devices too, and what customization would add to online lag. They would most likely have a ton of optimizations to work through to accomplish that. Much more complex code and graphics than say, pocket legends. The pc and consoles have far more memory and power to push those things. Not to mention the pc and console versions cost three times what we payed for mobile... so no, no one is getting screwed even if they charged 7 bucks or so to make it nearly exactly the same as the pc/console versions. Anyone who understands hardware and software and uses a little common sense would already be extremely grateful for what they have provided us on the cheap, and have no problem investing a few more dollars into such an amazing game.

The way consoles are set up would it be even possible to include the transfer feature?

It depends per console. It's definitely possible on the PC. Things are rapidly changing on the PS3 side (especially with the addition of the PlayStation Suite), so this may be possible between PS3/Android/etc.

I knew it was possible on the PC but never thought a feature such as that would come to the like big consoles (PS3, XBOX360, etc...).

is this a limitation due to memory or is it the way the UDK works for mobile platform? Ahhh material based. There must be a multitude of textures to create in that case, maybe it warrans a charge if this could be added. I suppose if it does work, it could be locked locally to each client so they don't require much modifications? Or is the "network build" the core of the client? Does the android version have this? I recalled seeing customizations for crystals or something on YouTube before.

I've wondered about that as well. For now it looks like at least my tegra2 tab and ipod chars will be transferrable, but It doesn't seem that the design will be very easy for this. Im hoping that DD2 will save characters on their own private servers instead on each local device. That will make true seamless cross platform play if the consoles allow that.

By the way, what happened with the game getting expedited to make the update come out quicker? Hopefully since they removed it from Itunes it's not at the beginning of a Queue like a new game would have to go through.

It's going to take a while. When the patch is just a critical bug fix the expedited review can be pushed through quickly (some have been pushed within 24 hours).

Patches that contain new content (like the 3.0 update) still need to be reviewed by someone from Apple. So it may be expedited but it's like getting to cut in line than just a fast pass to approval.

That doesn't mean the update can't come out this weekend, I know everyone is excited to get playing, but it may take a while

Yeah I've said over an over again I'd gladly pay more for more. And I don't see how a color of a character would create lag. Actually I want weapon colorization more personally. I hate my swords color.

It was, and apple did their best, unfortunately they had a crash on their test iPhone 4 we were unable to replicate on any of ours. All of the crashes reported here however are now fixed. We have a few theories and are working through them now.

The idea of importing and transfering characters is making me a wee bit nervous ;) For a game like Dungeon Defenders, I always imagined characters simply existing in the cloud, with no need to actually move them between the platforms. Much like any common MMO. It makes very little sense for a game so heavily based on online play NOT to save the information in a general database online.

Furthermore, with characters in the cloud, it would be an easy thing to bring them into the XBox 360 version, even if they cannot be played online with other platforms, unless the 360 multiplay agreement also prohibits cross-platform save files (as opposed to cross-platform play).

Ah, does that mean that the update is delayed?
