The free to download with perhaps optional IAP makes sense if you understand the history. Dungelot 1 went 50% off within three days of release and free after 14 days. It has been free several times because to my confusion I understand it didn't sell at a premium price. You can download the PC edition of Dungelot 1 free. It's not like Dungelot 2 is really doing much different other than allowing people who are willing to support quality games the option of tipping the developer and playing to the market's demand for low cost (aka free) material.
Permadeath? C'mon, not 'really'! Just a quick clarification on the term "permadeath": In many traditional rogue-likes, you make a character (pick stats, creature type, profession, etc) and then venture out, acquiring loot & levels. Then if you die, you gotta make someone new (or you can copy what you previously had, name the character "Conan Jr" (or whatever Jr)), and try again. Dungelot does not have 'permadeath' from my perspective. It has "inventory loss" when your archetype dies. Why differentiate? Well, you don't "make" a character -- you pick an archetype. Your character archetype never "dies", they just start over w/no inventory. So I reject the claim that this is 'permadeath'. This is more a, "darnit, gotta start over with no inventory!" type of scenarios. Definitely will be playing this game, btw. (As I stated pvsly in a dif thread, slightly annoyed with Dev's cultural insensitivity that the "game unlock" is 'free ham'.)
I love your post and it definitely doesn't make you sound greedy or bad and I hope others realize your just trying to do your best to get your game out there for as many people to play as possible. I think maybe it's mainly because I can't recall a game that used the IAP like yours there are ones similar but different still and I think people are just confused or worried as they always are with IAP. Once it's released I'd be suprised if anyone thinks it's unfair unless they just actually expect people to spend years of their lives to give these things away. Also to another question the game is difficult well tower 1 is pretty easy once your use to it and tower 2 gets much more difficult faster. I couldn't tell you past that as I've only beat 2/3 bosses on it and then been waiting for the update.

Stemming the tide of freemium games was probably a lost cause even before the online debates around the business model began. If we want to spare this world another Dungen Keeper , I think encouraging IAP models with complete unlocks, timer removals, all content accessible and completable without purchases, and full games hidden inside a freeming wrapping might be one of the most effective ways. And in that spirit, I'll be buying the full unlock tonight, hoping the sequel sits better with me than the first (No mistakes, the first was fun, but didn't grab me and drag me into the dungeon depths quite hard enough.) djiwai Well-Known Member Dec 8, 2010 132 0 0 #132 djiwai, Feb 13, 2014 just checked, it's not out in NZ yet...? Some of the NZ Links aren`t working if you click on those because of the Affil Program TouchArcade is using. Thanks for the hint. I thought it would make sense to create a fresh Thread about the Game so nobody has to read through 13 Pages of more or less "Why hasn`t it released yet" Posts till he gets some Information about the Game TheFrost Well-Known Member Nov 18, 2010 5,772 0 0 #138 TheFrost, Feb 13, 2014 I think so too! One thing I want to see tonight when I download it is how this resolves and in which direction. Freemium games are often full of expensive IAPs that costs way more than the 4$ Dungelot 2 is asking for the premium unlock.
