Beingin the software business is one thing. Another is to read the thread to see that the game was tested but it was tested by people that were not being reliable. Still, playing the devils advocate, he could have gone through his game just one time to find these errors. Still, the Dungelot series is pretty outstanding and goes beyond a lot of roguelikes so I am prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt one more time. I know the saying screw me once shame on you, screw me twice, shame on me, but I think it will be done good this time and hopefully balanced and with no bugs. We have been updated a lot and I believe his regret in how the game ended up so I am taking the chance and I still look forward to the improved game. If it ends up bad again I won't feel too burned because like I said... I love the original and hope I can play a new one. The original really stood out and I put in lots of time in it. I really want this new game to work out.
This game was in development for a year before releasing. http://toucharcade.com/2013/03/06/dungelot-2-is-in-the-works-heres-a-couple-of-screenshots/ You have a weird definition of "quick buck" They released the game and they weren't happy with it. Now they are massively retooling it, and that's not a fast process (but I'm sure you know that already, being that you've developed software for 30 years and all). Spend a year making a game, then spend another half a year completely reworking said game in order to please your fan base. All part of that "quick buck" scam I'm sure
Yeah, I agree. Everything the developer has done has been above board. I don't know how experienced the developer is, but I think his is quite a small operation and for whatever reason the testing wasn't quite enough. FWIW the game ran fine on my devices and I was enjoying it. Going back and rewriting it for four months seems a bit overkill for a game that seemed fine to me in the first place, but that shows the level of dedication the developer has to getting this game right.
Yeah, I never had a single problem or issue in any way with the game. From my personal experience, it was flawless from a technical standpoint and pretty great from a general gameplay standpoint.
In light of the proceeding update, I omit what were anecdotally negative comments out of respect for the efforts made to improve this product. Cheers!
iPhone testing : ) In the next 24 hours I will be sending game to all who wanted to test it DONT FORGET TO PM me your udid and email I depend on your reviews and reports. Tons of improvements and changes in gui, help system and in game mechanics. Maybe the biggest mechanic changes: * Simplified battle system. Monsters don't have HP now, they are killed by single tap ( mostly ) and damage hero on X points. * Dragon pet. But it will need time and patience to get Dragon ) * Items work like in the first dungelot. Inside dungeon. All items give passive bonus or maybe used once with different abilities * Skills work like perks and are learned only inside dungeon run. * Spoils that you find during run will be automatically used in the next run giving additional buffs. Spoiler PS. I didn't want any "quick bucks" it's ridiculous. That's not a goal for me. About paywall and all this stuff : I had no experience in making free game with huge in-apps and as for myself fan of premium games. I really thought that I made "soft" pay system. Ok, I was mistaken. I admitted that and shut down game for rebuilding. After year of working I was exhausted, in a rush and many said "faster, give me that game" - it's not an excuse for fail and more showing that I'm not quite experienced yet, had few organization troubles and didn't test game properly. It was a nice lesson for me.
I dont like the monster die in 1 hit part. No attack upgrade, less challenge, less RPG system No skill tree is also a turn off for me.
I like the idea of one button press to determine the outcome. Most battles ended up with me just mashing the button to finish it off.
Great to see this game finally coming back! I would love to test this out but I don't think it's optimized for Android yet, is it? I've only got an iPad 1 on 5.1.1 and couldn't run this game last time so I doubt my old iPad will handle the newer version.. Anyways if you also have an android build, I'd love to test it out! Been looking forward to this game since it was announced!
You guys did a great job revising this game. I'm really enjoying myself. I wish the spell / scroll system stayed the same. 2-3 scrolls drop per floor, and can only be used once now. Mana is extremely scarce and using 3 for a scroll to be used only once isn't a good mechanic. As I said, 2-3 drop per floor and you hardly ever have enough to waste 3 on a single silly scroll. Especially since totems drop that make enemies hard to kill, they coast 3 to destroy. So that's 3 for a totem and 3 for a single scroll. You hardly ever have enough to just waste on a scroll considering totems are top priority. Edit: I'm actually enjoying the new spell/scroll system actually. Once you play enough, you get used to it. I'm loving what you've done though. Finding buffs / flaws add a level of depth to the game. The drunk tavern is an awesome little shop. 50g for some temp attack / hp & defence buffs go a long way. I've only played a few minutes of the revised version but it seems there's no more equipment to earn? The equipment was an amazing idea. 3 bosses per dungeon, 3 possible equipment a you could earn. Upgrading them was important as well. If the equipment no longer exists it should be reimplemented. That was insentive to keep playing, to keep going for that awesome piece of equipment. The stash system is really neat! It appears you find a sword in a mound. If you click it you'll gain 5 hearts and 2 sheild. If you level your hero, the stash gives you better perks when found.
I loved it, but I'm in iPod 4, so naturally, there's a bug or 2. As of now, the only problem I've ran into after about 4 games, is it crashed when I was in mid level 10, so I booted it back up, too find I had lost all my gold, but was still on level 10. Also, if I buy the golden ham now, will it count when it's actually released?
My actual game icon just says waiting? Only way to play is to open app store go to purchased then Dungelot 2 says open. Also one of the warriors skillls I believe the 2nd one isnt readable. Its like in another language or something?
My first impressions: I like most of the new changes. The new combat makes things faster, and does not make it any easier which is great. Less tapping and feels way more streamlined. I'm getting used to the new ways spells work but mana is pretty hard to come by. I realize the game is supposed to be difficult and force you to make tough decisions, but many floors are filled with totems that leave you without mana, and tons of spells seem to drop that you simply cannot use. Artifacts are great, I like how how you can hold onto them for the passives they grant or use them up for a powerful ability. Some are really powerful and change the way you might play. Very glad to have a tutorial and help guide explaining the game systems. I thought there was going to be a skill tree? Right now you just pay to level up the hero and you get added abilities but don't see a progression of what skills you get. For instance, I'm level 2 on the warrior and for 1000 gold my armor increases by 5 points, but I don't know what the next skill might be. I like the Spoils system where you find items that buff you on the next run. But I'd like to see which ones you are getting; the icon appears for a second and you don't know what they are until you look at your character right before the next run. I've never used TestFlight before, is it supposed to kick you out of GameCenter? I tried to sign in again and it crashed the game and I lost all the buffs I earned from a previous run. I'll post more feedback after some more playing but I'm really liking it so far.
Really loving the revised version! So many new things. The spells are great now. But I can't find that much mana. Am I missing something? I don't remember the tavern before - but at this point I am getting the original game and the second game confused! I remember some kind of shop before. Really a nice addition. Will be posting some more later - this is some quick thoughts in between meetings today!
I agree with most of this, especially about mana being too hard to come by with all the different totems, spells, and enemy effects that get thrown at you at the higher dungeon floors. I've had floors with multiple totems and multiple enemy debuffs all at once. It's almost impossible to clear them all but you will lose a significant chunk of HP if you don't. I thought that the new combat would make it less fun, but I actually find that it's more fun. Like someone said previously, I found that in the old system you ended up just tapping an enemy until they died anyways; why not streamline it? I like the new artifact system, even though some of them are sort of useless (like the bread that heals 1 HP each floor/recovers 3 HP on use). Overall I'm quite pleased with the new version. I'd like to see a bit more permanentcharacter progression, or make the character levelling have more options instead of "level 1=this, level 2=that." But overall I can see myself putting more time into this, even though I'm only on the first dungeon still.
Thanks for reviews! I'll figure out what I can do with mana. It's designed to be rare enough for hard decisions. But there is always room for little rebalancing : ) About skill tree. Didn't know what to add there, really. I'll think about something more interesting than just linear level buying
