Probably already been mentioned at some point but it's driving me crazy. The equipment system. I find it incredibly frustrating. Fighting your way to a boss to get the equipment is fine. It's fun. The bonuses equipment give you start off quite small though. To make the equipment worth using a player must spend gold as well as multiple material items. That's fine too. It's FUN. I WANT to do dungeon runs hoping for that one more metal bar I need to drop so I can upgrade my weapon. So after doing all that and upgrading your equipment a player feels like they're starting to receive a small bonus in combat. Fighting IS the game, so this is good. What is not good is how a player is penalized for going in to a dungeon with equipment: 1) During a dungeon run equipment can be 'stolen' by bandits 2) If the bandits fail at stealing a player's equipment the item can still "fall to the ground and break" 3) Due to the large number of floors a skilled player can go through the player is almost guaranteed to meet bandits 4) After a dungeon run equipment can break for absolutely no reason, and this happens quite often 5) Once damaged a player's equipment can actually delevel as well, forcing the player to pay AGAIN to receive the higher bonus the item previously provided, on top of the repair fee 6) Unless the player is just starting out she will almost certainly have multiple items equipped which multiplies the chances of her equipment breaking Gold and Material Items are just too scarce to support a system like this. Even with higher reward rates the system itself is still a punishing one providing multiple opportunities to disappoint a player. If you don't want players to have equipment just be honest about it and remove the system entirely. If you DO want players to have equipment then stop taking it away from them. If you're going to have a system of persistent equipment then treat it the same way you do player skills. Otherwise the system adds nothing to player enjoyment while providing very little benefit to the overall game. The real problem is persistence. Skills once bought do not suddenly "go away" or break in between dungeon runs. Players enjoy this. On the other hand, spells gained during a dungeon run are lost once the run is over, yet players do not seem to get upset when this happens. Don't take away benefits that are supposed to be persistent - if you MUST take them away then make that benefit last only during the dungeon run and it will feel far less punishing to the player. That is just my opinion of course. Agree? Disagree?
Agree. I love the one where your equipment breaks because it fell to the ground. Don't really see how a sword or shield could/would break by being dropped on the ground. Irreparable damages were done with this version of Dungelot. Pretty sure that I read he was thinking it would be roughly a month before the game was where it needs to be for re-release.
What are people's favorite spell combos? The castle/armor spell is my favorite...but I'm torn as to whether I like to pair it with fireball or healing. Power up + fireball is a nice combo too.
Heck yeah!!!!! Finally cleared the second dungeon, using the Warrior with his first two skills. For spells, castle/armor and fireball. Got lucky and found a lot (3?) of permanent attack upgrades. By level 15 I had a feeling that this was going to be the run. I had to use runes to refill my life twice - once on level 25ish when a 15% instakill got me (which is an annoying skill, by the way, although very appropriate for a roguelike) and again on level 29 when, actually, when the same thing happened. Once I had the boss down, I actually suicided myself ASAP out of fear of the bug where you can't advance. Given that I refused to use the bugged merc skill, and that I was only killed by instakill abilities, this time I don't regret using the 3 runes AT ALL.
Sounds like there's a bug in the game code regarding the Merc and the second skill slot generally. Do you know if this always happen to the Merc if the Mage skill is unlocked at all? Can it be avoided by not having one or the other (or both) second skills active? EDIT: Actually, it's the second slot generally...the Mage's second skill also affects the Warrior. But if you deactivate it on the Mage before starting a run with another character, it turns off. EDIT EDIT: Nope, I was wrong. It still affects the Warrior. Next thing I'm going to try is deactivating the Warrior's second skill slot, and see if the issue persists. FINAL EDIT: I can confirm that if you unlock the Mage's second skill all three characters gain the skill. Not quite as devastating as the Merc bug, but still pretty disappointing. However, I feel like this skill is essential for the Mage, so I guess I don't mind unlocking it. I'll have to consider whether I want to a) only use the Mage when trying for bosses b) track spell cooldowns so I know if I should be able to cast a spell or not or c) just take advantage of the bug. I'm leaning towards only using the Mage for bosses, but freely farming on all chars and having the bug,
Above the skill list there's a little + sign where it says 1/1...you can add skill slots. 1500 gold and 4 runes for a second skill, 3000 gold and 8 runes for a third. Not sure what the fourth costs since I haven't gotten the third yet. But I would guess 6000 gold and 16 runes.
Good news! I deactivated the second skill slot on both the Mage and the Warrior and then restarted then app. I then took the Warrior on a short run, killing 100 enemies. Number of Mage skill procs = zero. I suppose I could be incredibly unlucky, but I think the bug was cleared. More testing will be necessary to figure out if the bug comes back or not. Edit: It looks like the glitch is tied to the Mage's skill. Whenever I restart the game with the Mage skill deactivated, no glitch. As soon as I activated the skill, glitch. So, a minor annoyance.
Using the Mage and his third skill (fireball bonus damage) it seems like the skill always crits? I think that either there's a bug somewhere or the tooltip for the skill is wrong.
Just deleted this bug riddled mess after clearing level 32 with merc, spending 8 gems, getting new armor, shield, items, and over 700 gold...playing for 20 min only to get a screen lock up, unable to exit. Restarting ipad usually fixed this, but the game hard locked and only showed a white load screen with wood. This app should be removed and never put back on the App Store. I won't be supporting your games in the future.
I reached the Lair stage, but still can't unlock any characters. ;( Hope the first patch correct this problem
I too am very disappointed. I was very scathing of the look of the free to play elements in this game. I eagerly awaited this. Now I have played it extensively my opinion against this game has only grown stronger. After playong it, the graphics are head and shoulders better than the first. The map could be a great addition but the f2p killed all the potential. It just feels way too unbalanced when I play it. The first was hard but never unfair. This literally feels impossible unless you not only drop a small app sized amount of IAP but constantly spend spend spend. I almost laughed out loud when I cleared a dungeon and got a little sequence that displays a big chest that I have obtained for my labours only to open it and receive 3 pieces of gold hahaha! What the heck!? You don't make nearly enough gold and the rate at which enemies strength and hp rises in a run compared to you is stupidly unbalanced. In a usual run you are lucky if you get one sword upgrade. You never get enough hearts to maintain your health. You never get nearly enough mana to dispel even half of the totems (these seem to pop up way to often) the negative room effects appear at a rate of about 4 to 1. All in all the game just felt way too unfair to me to want to play. Especially as it could have been a reallllllly fun game. The golden ham also bugged me. I love when a developer makes a purchase that effectively turns the game premium for those that want to do that'. This is not that by any means. All you do is pay a premium price to play a very freemium focused game for longer. I usually found that I would never play more than 12 pieces of ham at a time because the grind was just too much to bear for much longer. Anyway. Just wanted to give my honest opinion on this game after playing it in depth, as I was very scathing of it before id actually played it.
Yeah man, I deleted it and am waiting for the update like many others. No rush, I finally got into Warhammer Quest, and soon Coldfire Keep, both excellent games!
What am I doing wrong in this game? All I have is the sword which I upgraded a few times and that's it... I've played the first level hundreds of times and I can't ever do or get anything else? How do I get a shield or armor? And how do I upgrade attributes? How do u make any progress?
