wow... I played again this morning and in my first run I could barely make it past the second dungeon, which is ridiculous. I guess I shouldn't be trying to save my gold for skills? I haven't been paying attention to the timers, but the grind is so apparent, there's no way I see myself continuing to play this game. I also wasted my rune because you spend it as soon as you tap on the screen.
I played and enjoyed the first game. I was quite excited for the release of the sequel. I am having a lot of fun so far. I do have 1 qualm with the game, and perhaps I forgot if the first shared this model; I do not mind supporting the developer, paying the fee to permanently increase X. That said, I do not appreciate that buying gold to increase health/ damage only lasts for 1 game, which if RNG has it in for you can only last for 2 - 3 levels. I rarely complain about IAP, but this is absolutely absurd. It makes me feel a bit cheated, and tempts me to 1 star the app on the store. Please reconsider this pay model. Edit: Ok, so now I am officially mad. I decided I would buy 1 bag of gold and ride it out. Used it to upgrade my guy before going into the dungeon. As I got to the second level, I received a phone call. The game had apparently closed completely, and all of the progress had been lost. I had 300 gold and was not in the dungeon. Sorry but this is an outrage and I will be getting my money back.
Been playing for a half hour, bought the meat. However, I've had to force close the app 5 times now because my taps completely stopped registering. And when you quit in a dungeon, there is no resume like last time. Don't mind spending the money since I got the first one free and enjoyed it immensely, but this is some bull puckey so far.
The original game had some strategy to it. So far I haven't seen basically any strategy with this one. Also, there are a confusing array of things that are poorly explained. Leaving aside the freemium issues, I still don't like this as much as the first game.
I had high hopes for this game. Too bad this isn't as good as I'd have liked. The freemium-ness turns me off. The permanent meat IAP just isn't enough to consider buying. The original game had good balance when it started, and is quite unbalanced now. Even now, I'd consider the better game. Sorry.
You unlock equipment by beating certain bosses. Only Equipment improves the attributes of your character. I think the portals are broken? Everybody is under the impression that if you die, you can restart at a portal you have unlocked (as that's the only logical purpose), but for whatever reason that doesn't happen. It should be usable on your next run. All inventory items are one-shot items, and you need to pay 1500G if you want to use more than one at a time.
Soooooo dissappointed in this. I'd have bought the damn ham, but the runes element and the fact that in-run upgrades just don't seem to spawn make this a chore compared to Dungelot 1's fun. Devs need to make their money, I think we all accept that - but if you make your game free, give us a way to pay and remove the freemium malarchy. Totally gutted.
I see. Inventory is not the same as equipment. It sounds like the game gets more fun once you have some equipment?
Well, you see the improvement, but I need runes to upgrade my sword (the first piece of equipment you get) and I haven't had a single one drop yet so I'm just kinda getting stuck around the same place every run. Some people in this forum have clearly had no problem with this, so maybe I'm just being amazingly unlucky, but what it is is what it is.
It does, but I don't see why making the game awful before getting a piece of equipment was a good idea. Doing 1 damage means you either pay 75g to upgrade your damage or you lose half your health on the first 2 floors of the dungeon. Damage upgrades rarely Drop in dungeon either: I've seen 1 so far.
So basically unlocking more than one skill is pointless unless you've got an extra 1500 gold and three runes as you can only have one skill active without buying it. ARGH!!! What is this Dungeon Keeper 2.0?
OK...I finally made it deep enough to start getting interesting random encounters. This might be a better game than it first appeared to be.
Wow, everyone is being pretty hard on this game. It isn't as bad as some say though. There are permanent upgrades. One such being a sword that adds to your attack and the possibility to counterattack if the enemy misses (my base damage is 3). Another being leather armor which adds health and an evade chance if the enemy misses. Both need to be obtained by beating a boss, I believe, but once you get them they go in your inventory. You can also upgrade the affects of these items without premium currency. Than there are skills you can upgrade permanently by spending gold. The only problem with this is it ultimately effects the score, so if you're trying to beat a GC friends score, it can come down to who spends money on gold and upgrading their character. Spending gold on boosting your base attack and health before entering a dungeon should be viewed as a boost to that run. The jury's still out for me, so I haven't purchased the golden ham yet BUT my initial impressions (2 hours) haven't been as negative as some have said here.
Like many others, I was feeling like I was on a treadmill, making no progress; after a dozen runs, I was no more effective than on my first run, and loot wasn't dropping. Out of frustration, I reinstalled to test a theory; that loot drop rate declines after the first run. After reinstalling, in my first run: sword, lantern, potion, meat, and two gems, all within the first 5 levels. Sad thing is, I'm now better equipped than I was after playing for hours on the previous install. The important this is, I discovered something that eluded me previously: after you buy a skill, you must select it. So, Im a moron, but I bet a few others missed this as well, and didn't activate the critically important first skill that increases healing effectiveness. This one skill alone, has huge impact on survivability.
You don't need runes to upgrade the sword. That just enhances the chance of success. I've upgraded twice without runes with no problem. I thought the same thing at first though. Edit: You do need those rocks though. I've been finding them in sacks quite easily, currently have 6. So to upgrade you need the rock and some gold.
I can't make it too far without dying and I haven't gotten a single new dungeon key or equipment. Seems ridiculous the only way to progress is to pay the tavern cold to increase damage because now I'm stuck with 2 base damage with the sword equipped. And I can lose half my health by level 2-3.. Really now. However on the bright side I like the art a lot more than the first and the game plays a lot smoother, though I wish they'd add a character attack animation.
Have to say im very dissapointed as well (though ive never played the first one). I just dont get it. The strategy seems minimal. The secret to success just seems like who can load up with the most consumable items (including dmg/health upgrades) in one run. This is NOT fun at all, so you get one good run then grind 4 more to get enough for one big run again, pretty lame. A $4 upgrade should also make the game a premium game IMO, but with runes and gold being so necessary i do not think it does. I accidentally spent my only 2 runes due to bad design. There is way less confirmations then there should be, when enemy "staffs" pop up that cost 3 mana to get rid of, i dont even know of a way to find out what benefit they give monsters before eliminating them. Im a fan of the graphics/theme of the game, but thats about it. Can someone tell me if the first dungelot is alot less pay to win than this? Maybe i would like it better Edit: just wanted to edit this and say it was somewhat of an unfair post. While i do still agree with most points i made, they are mostly related to IAP misbalance, and the dev has shown he is willing to tweak that area a good bit. So i am totally willing to give the game a chance with a dev who listens to the community
I've made it to the end of a dungeon, getting a master key without the beef. What helped was getting and utilizing the healing and armor spells. I agree on the animation.
Bit disappointed too and was a huge fan of the first game; gold should drop more, seriously 3 gold bonus for clearing the whole floor? In previous game it was an incentive to do so, here it looks like a stupid choice. Wanted to pay for the meat thing but i'd rather have a coin doubler to be honest...will play some more and will post again later
