imo it's worth every penny I bought this game at 3 buck and since the update this game Rocks ! This game is very playable. I have a little adjustment to the control scheme...trying to make it a little more like Wolfenstein. Default I move the right analog controller up to the left side out of the way and I bring down the buttons. So I control Duke looking left and right moving forwards and backwards with just the left analog stick. This is how I play Wolfenstein. One of the features of the game I like is that you can get rid of the GUI so you can play without them in the way.I just wish every game gave that option. I also am waiting for Classic Doom and checking for it everyday like a little kid waiting for Christmas.
The controls are better but not perfect but hey its a touch screen...whats not good is people with 1st gen touch's still can't play. I appreciate George coming here and trying to help but it would have been nice to see the dev pop in and talk about this with us since a shitton of us bought the game and want to see it be better and also be playable for those who were promised a fix for not being able to play at all.
That's not an excuse, though. There have been games like this with great controls. They really need to redo this. I'm glad that they at least dropped it to $.99. Lol, seriously? You just compared losing $2 to getting butt raped.
Yeah, you don't get to say you've been butt raped by Duke Nukem unless you bought it at it's original price for your 1G Touch, like me. I like how they found the time to drop the price to 1/3 of what it was but they still haven't gotten around to fixing our being unable to install the damn thing, much less the apparent control issue that still persists. This doesn't make me angry so much having been shafted, who really gives a crap about being down $3, but because it was a great game that never deserved to be treated like this. If they'd gone the full whack, a perfect release opened at $5 with support for coop and deathmatch over wifi, they'd have made a KILLING. While I don't know which group of individuals were those directly responsible for Duke 3d being so great, I suspect they have long since departed 3D Realms.
Well I dunno what to tell you George, other than; I really really love this. I didn't play 1.0, so have no idea how bad the controls were. But I gotta say, I think you guys have been given nothing but gripe here, when I actually think a f*cking truckload of praise should be given. This new version 1.1 (Just bought for a buck, thank you kindly), is so easy to setup to your own playstyle, that I really have no idea why ppl. can't get it to work after.... well I don't even know what they want, because this is, to my recollection, as close to a true version of the game, as I would think possible on the iPhone (3GS in my case). So I for one: Thank you guys. Sure have brought back alot of happy memories for me. It's like every corner I turn, is a room, a map, a sound, from many many years ago, come back to say hi Thanks.
I complained about the controls at first (I downloaded it after the update) but I adjusted them some and now they're fine. They're a little but awkward, but they work. It's definitely worth getting if you're willing to spend a few minutes tinkering with the analog controls.
It's probably simpler if I just give you the explanation that iTunes gives me: The application "Duke 3D" was not installed on the iPod "My iPod" because it is not compatible with this iPod. You paid $1, and it's fine for you. I paid $3 ($4 in my currency), and I can't even install the damn thing. Want to know why I'm not contributing to the "f*cking truckload of praise"? That's why.
This topic may have already been covered but I couldn't find it after several searches. I'm enjoying this game even with the still spotty controlls but I've reached a point where I can't seem to go on. It's in the toxic dump level where you get shrunk. It seems difficult, if not impossible, to manuever around the small passageways after you're shrunk down. Seems to be an issue with the controlls. Anyone else have this problem and how did you get past it?
.99 cents, I couldn't resist anymore - old Duke Nukem 3D was one of the first games I ever installed on PC, a shareware version at that. Graphics are fantastic, but my one question - is there no strafe? Nearly unplayable without it, hopefully I'm missing something.
When I saw that this was an active thread again, I thought, "Maybe they finally made it compatible with 1st Gen Touch!" Silly me...
Just pause the game and tap where it says either Analog Controls or digital Controls. From there you can adjust the sensitivities and make a bunch of other changes, including strafing (I think the option is a check box that says "turn, don't strafe" or something like that. You need to uncheck it).
Am I the only one who thinks that a port of the ORIGINAL Duke Nukem (and possibly Duke Nukem 2) to the iPhone would be WAY more awesome than Duke 3D? And while you're at it 3D Realms, how about Cosmo's Comic Adventure, Halloween Harry (nee! Alien Carnage!), Major Striker, and other great Apogee classics? Pleeease? Pretty pleeeaasse? Yeah, I'm old. Get over it. I liked 2D games. You darn kids can get off my lawn! Of course, if you ported Wacky Wheels, Blake Stone, Xenophage, Terminal Velocity, and other classic "three-dee" games, I wouldn't complain. ________ MERCEDES-BENZ L-SERIES TRUCK HISTORY
Commander Keen was made by id Software. I don't know the details of the contract with Apogee, but I always got the impression that it was a bit different than most Apogee contracts. Ergo, if anyone is going to release Commander Keen, it probably won't be 3D Realms. That being said, if Keen shows up on the iPhone I won't complain! ________ Herbal Vaporizer
alright, so they published keen. you've got me there. but it's still worth mentioning alongside the other classic 2-D games like Halloween Harry.
