Finally got around to this game and it's abysmal. The following video should be posted on the front page of this thread representing the game:
spiffy... when the update was out, the devs actually "WROTE" it in the description that Touch 1st Gen is now supported.. coz of which ppl who were holding off, bought it.. but 'discovered' that it still won't install. Now.. when you scroll down and check the actual "Requirements" sections.. it says iPod Touch (2nd Gen).. which (thankfully) i noticed before clicking "buy" And NOW when you go check the application.. rather than addressing the issue, they simple "deleted" that "mis-leading statement".. and now it says "iPod Touch 2 with 2.2 OS and above supported" :S Now even if they do manage to get the update out... i won't buy this app.. knowing that I'm actually paying devs who have an attitude like this...
I was lucky enough not to think about buying up until just now, and stopped because I saw the "2nd gen" stuff on the app description, but I'm still kinda pissed for those unlucky folks who bought the game for their 1st gen touch devices because, as you've stated, they read the initial description for the update that specified support for that device. How do you update the description of an app to reflect a change that apparently never was made? Who the heck let that slip through? Time to pull this app again. Re-release in a few months when the bad taste is gone.
Exactly... and like i said, rather than addressing the issue, they just "editted" the description again. Its like "Oh, to hell with the customers who fell for that.. just the change the description again".. Clearly shows how "they" see "us" consumers ..
What really sucks is that one of the original creators of the game came into this topic and stated he was kept out of the loop on this iPhone/touch version. That shows a lack of care from the developers/porters of this one, to not give a heads up to that original developer who might have been able to, y'know, help them out a bit and make sure that stuff like this didn't happen. It's Duke Nukem, for cryin' out loud! This should be a four star port that deserves a place on the upper echelons of people's "best games on iPhone/touch" list. Instead it gives a great game a bad name. And to further the "tragedy" of it all, there might be some younger gamers who want to "get some" after hearing so much from older gamers about this game, and because of such a shoddy port they might just think this game is overblown and overrated. It deserves so much more, IMHO, as do we the gamers and the original creators of the game itself.
I am officially giving up on Duke Nukem. This release has been a comedy of errors from start to finish: an absolute fiasco. The lack of support for 1st Gen Touches is inexplicable. They promised it would be supported in the update. They even indicated that it was compatible in the app store description (while--at the same time--saying it wasn't ). And now they have again changed the description to clarify the situation, but only after numerous people were misled by the contradictory app store description and left a plethora of one-star reviews!! And now--to rub salt in the wounds of all the 1st Gen Touch owners who were anticipating being able to run the game--they lowered the price to 99 cents! Duke Nukem is dead. Long live Doom Classic*! *which isn't out yet, but will certainly have a better chance of succeeding than this loser game...
Poor Duke... If they mess up the second update, they'd better give you a dollar in case you'd still want to get the app.
cant believe this is only 59p! was putting it off until they had a new control scheme, and now they've fix that and put it on sale?! instant buy for me
so is this game even worth it now? There are some people saying that its not even worth $.99 I'm hesitant to buy.
I downloaded this game this afternoon and I'm actually confused which control setting is supposed to be the old crappier one. I think the analog one is a bit easier to use, but it still feels awkward. I think the setup is fine, but it moves funny.
The Digital set-up is probably the better one imo. But then again, I got used to it. But it still sucks I cant play it on my 1G and have to steal my GF's Ipod to play it :-/
You shouldn't get it even if the devs GIVE you 99c to play it! But then again.. I'm saying it coz i have iPod 1G, and the promised support didn't make it to the update (there's more to that if you read a few pages back)... but those who can run it, are still complaining about the controls... and some are even calling it 'unplayable'... so that's the best advice i can give u.
at 99c i found it fun, its definitely worth 99c. But then again I am a big fan of Duke 3D. Maybe its just me, but I find the new controls to be considered playable.
It f***ing turned .99? I got f***ed in the ass. Not that I care that much about that 2 dollars, but the principal of it is just f***ed. They could have reduced it at the beginning of the update, but they didn't. And now that they hear so much complaint from the gamers, they want to reduce it just so more people would buy it in the crappy state it's in. And I was actually saying to myself "Come on, let's not be so cheap, just buy it. They can't possibly ever put Duke down to .99." I even bought Wolfenstein at 1.99 because I highly doubt it's ever going to fall to the shame of .99 (and some 0.99 cent games are actually good). Yes! I am still very eagerly awaiting and pining for Doom Classic I know it's silly but everyday I'm just like a kid waiting for Christmas, knowing it's a long way away - and you know how sad that is.
For those asking if it's worth $.99... No. Wait for (another) update, maybe, assuming one is even slated, but not now. I'm waiting for Doom Classic now (and playing MC: Sandstorm).
