The game really need more optimization. I got slow downs in larger open space areas and it hurts the gameplay a lot
Not sure which boss this is (it's been a while) but episodes never continued after you beat a boss in the original either. You always went back to the main menu and started a new game at the next episode.
Everyone's talking like it's in dire need of some optimisation. Really, how does a game this old stress a device like the 3gs? And all I have is a 1G Touch. Starting to sound like I might be better off without compatibility
This isn't a port per se from my understanding - it's the game assets dropped into a different engine (the 'RiPP3D RealTime Engine' to be exact).
It doesn't stress a 3GS at all...if anything, it's too fast. Once the control update comes out (it's already been submitted) everything should be golden.
Yeah, I had to really turn down the sensitivity and speed on the 3GS to make it playable -- but that much I didn't mind. Once the update turns up in the App Store fixing the control issues, Duke will approach perfection. Some other less serious changes (proper weapons and items menu, maybe some quick keys to instantly access things like the jetpack and health packs) will push it the rest of the way there.
Is Apple uploading it one byte at a time??? I know I've been waiting almost a week for the update... I think Apple is still lagging it.
I love this game! Just as fun as the original, minus a few things: 1. Obviously you can't download custom maps for this, and one of my FAVORITE things about the original was map packs. 2. No multiplayer 3. Doesn't include the Atomic Edition chapter, which blows, but maybe in an update?
hey george, any thoughts on adding a frame limiter? at times the game runs damn fast on my 3gs...waaaaaay faster than it should be.
I'm having such a good time with this it's absurd. The controls (now that I've fully adapted to them) are an afterthought, and really only hold me up when precise aiming is needed to hit a switch or something. I'm on the 3rd level of shrapnel city and contrary to some of my earlier comments, I haven't found a single secret to be missing. If it didn't have their now trademarked shitty controls, I would have never believed this was from the same developer of prey.
Does this really take so long to approve an update? For the original game ok but not for an update that just fixes the controls ... I really hope i can get this update even if it was removed from the german store.
You're asking this about Apple. Updates could take 3-4 days, they could take 2-3 weeks. It depends on everything from how much they have to use the app to determine whether it's fit for approval, to what the pattern of tea leaves at the bottom of their cups have to say about it. Apple's approval process is a pot of water on a stove element: The more intently you watch it, the longer it will take to see what you're expecting of it.
Well, let's get serious, George. Enough of beating around the bush. Doom Classic will ship with multiplayer over wifi. Everyone knows it. That's just how ID roll. If you don't do multiplayer, for what is without a doubt your flagship title, how's that going to make you guys look? Are you willing to go the extra mile, or are you only going to do what you have to? This is the sort of thing that people will remember, and the ball's in your court.
I think it could be interesting to update the graphics while not sacrificing performance and let people toggle between the authentic original graphics and the new. I think that could give Duke a wider appeal to an audience that may not appreciate when the game came out and its "old school" graphics.
I'm from germany and i would be REALLY, REALLY annoyed if i cannot load the update for my 1st gen touch, when it comes out, because your company, GEORGE, screwed up the 1.st gen compatibility in the first place. As well as the censorship issue.....it is your responsibility to ensure BEFOREHAND, that the customers won't sit on a piece of useless crap after purchasing the game when its pulled from the appstore afterwards. But lets wait for that update and then i can still go bezerk about this.
The most stupid thing is that the game can be sold. It's not like Wolfenstein which is forbidden because some people still believe its glorifying the Nazi ideas. Duke Nukem can be sold as long as it doesn't stand in the shelfs and isn't advertised. Unfortunately, going in a store and asking for it doesn't work with the app store.
