No, my heart bleeds that you're on a 1G Touch. Looks like it's time to upgrade.

Wolf RPG does look very polished and I've heard the controls are spot-on but I just don't see the appeal. The original is one of my most played games on my iPhone but I'm just on big on the turn based element of the RPG. Maybe it's just me or I don't fully understand it or something...

PS- Duke would annihilate John Gore :p

I wouldn't get too hung up on the RPG thing. It's really just a slightly different version of Wolfy. The turn based thing really only comes into play when it's a fight, where you basically take turns. It's really fun, and this is coming from someone who really could give two spits about most RPGs.

The thought didn't occur that just maybe I'm waiting for a 3G Touch before doing that?

I don't have the money to drop on a new device every time Apple brings out a new revision, not when my existing one's working perfectly fine.

Is it working fine? How's Duke running on it? Anyway, the 3G will be great I'm sure just like my 3GS, but if you're trying to stay ahead of the Apple curve, it's a fool's errand. They'll always have something newer and better coming...

  6. The problem is being addressed; the next update should allow you to sync it to your 1st gen Touch.

  7. Duke would annihiliate Chuck Norris.

    Yeah, I said it.

Yeah, it's kind of sucks that it's not compatible with 1st Gen Touch.
I am hoping that the compatibility issue will be addressed soon in an update, as well as the control issues. Since the dev is aware, I think it's only a matter of time. I hope he extends the sale price, so that all the 1st Gen Touch owners will be able to take advantage of the introductory price. It's some consolation that Wolf RPG is also out, and works with 1st Gen...

hmm maybe I'll have to give it a try in that case. I saw someone has already beaten it in under 4 hours, which to me is not a bad thing. I don't know how long the original took me to beat it but it felt like forever!

    I'll say it too!

    1. Duke Nukem's tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried. Ever.
    2. Duke Nukem does not sleep. He waits.
    3. Duke Nukem is currently suing NBC, claiming Law and Order are trademarked names for his left and right legs.
    4. The chief export of Duke Nukem is pain.
    5. If you can see Duke Nukem, he can see you. If you can't see Duke Nukem, you may be only seconds away from death.
    6. Duke Nukem has counted to infinity. Twice.
    7. Duke Nukem does not hunt because the word hunting implies the probability of failure. Duke Nukem goes killing.
    8. Duke Nukem doesn’t wash his clothes, he disembowels them.
    9. Duke Nukem is 1/8th Cherokee. This has nothing to do with ancestry, the man ate a f***ing Indian.
    10. In fine print on the last page of the Guinness Book of World Records it notes that all world records are held by Duke Nukem, and those listed in the book are simply the closest anyone else has ever gotten.

You're pretty funny, really. I just have that much more sympathy for you now for finding the thread so boring.

That's the thing. There's nothing stopping us from buying the app now, and thus taking advantage of the "sale", it just sits on our hard drive doing squat in the meantime.

It's kinda sad, but the situation as it is now kinda reminds me of the situation as it was back then. Duke was good, but with the early Doom games and then Quake 1, ID was basically kicking their arses back then too. I guess they just cast a really big shadow, one that's easy to get caught under.

Oh, all right dammit, I didn't notice you were from Australia until now, Ventura...I like Australians. I take back any snarky comments about older Touches, and hope that our U.S./Aussie relations can take on a more consiliatory tone in the future. :D

You can already buy Duke3D from iTunes, even if you have an iPod Touch 1G. iTunes won't check whether the app will work on your device or not; it just works. The next time you'll sync iTunes with your iPod Touch, it'll then try to install Duke3D (, which currently won't work, obviously...).

In fact, I've got an iPod Touch 1G myself and I bought Duke3D, already knowing that it wouldn't work! That's either pure genius or utter lunacy :) I just bought something that doesn't work, but hey, I did get it at sale price!

It's deleted from the german app store

I hate the german censorship, fu***** ridiculous, we have the worlds most "powerfull" Movie/Videogames restriction system :(

I wondered even why it came out in the german appstore, they used §131 in the 90s...

Just use the report button, don't fill up this thread with offtopic crap like that.

    ON TOPIC:

Yeah I ranted a lot earlier and I'm still unable to enjoy the game with the current controls, but I'm really looking forward to the updates promised by George.

This has such potential and it really frustrated me with those controls.

    Good luck George!

Hey Man, have you given it a go? It's actually not so bad once you adjust the controls, and or get used to them. Once I got to the prison, I pretty much got the hang of it. Still isn't great, but it's definitley playable.

Well i wondered why it has been in the German App Store in the first place. Anyone has experience whether its still possible for us to update? Is it possible that an app gets removed from your itunes when it has been removed from the app store? Why can't they just submit duke 3d to the German organisation that rates games again. In the context of modern games the ban would probably be lifted. Same was done with old arcade games which were part of a compilation to make it avaiable in germany.

Yeah, I picked it up on launch day and tried on and off for several hours to perfect it, tried both control schemes and tried countless layouts for the digital one.

I'm not going to moan on about it anymore because enough has been said on the topic (by me at least) that it's not constructive anymore. Must admit I'm jealous you worked them out in the end, it could just be me being a bit too old to adjust to 'em ;)

That won't be happening, because Duke is one of the BPJMs "babys" (Like a prestige object), like Wolfenstein or Texas Chainsaw Massacre ;) They will never set their "babies", their often beloved argumented hating objects, free...
