Sounds good mate. Be nice to see that graphic for how many bullets are left in the clip make it in too. As a 1G Touch user, however, I can't really comment further until it's made compatible with my device.
great and informative post george. i think if the controls are nailed, as you say, then this game will be spot on. there isnt really anything else wrong with this conversion at all.
I don't know the specifics or all the in's and out's of submitting an app, but I was told this was some sort of error and that the game does in fact work on 1G Touch's, and that it'd be addressed very soon. I'm not sure if it can be fixed outside of the update or not, but will keep you posted. On the weapon ammo thing....I'm not sure what all we can jam into the first update without it taking too long. It's kind of scary to see the game in the 20's on the overall app list and know that the controls are as they are. So, the focus is to get the control update out there basically immediately, then address as much as possible in a second update. The dev team is easy to work with and we already did a couple of small things like adding a toggle to turn off bilinear filtering. Small things like that, that are a few lines of code and easy to test, will make it into update 1 for sure.
Yeah I had it happen recently with another app, and when the developer became aware of the problem, they had it fixed inside of a couple of days, without having to submit another update. I only had to re-download the app, at which time iTunes was then more than happy to sync it over. Sounds good. For what it's worth mate, you're doing an absolutely stellar job getting this thing fixed.
Tap to shoot is an awesome feature. I know some don't agree with it, but i really think it makes the best out of aiming on a device like the iPhone.
I'm on the submarine level now, and I've only played a bit. I use cross hairs, button fire, and analog sticks, and while a tad frustrating, the game has turned out to be quite playable. I'm actually kinda......loving it.
Exactly... After reading few comments about I really thought game will be horrible and pretty much unplayable... But - I bought it anyway... And it's simply awesome! It pretty much jumped into my top 4-5 games straight away...
Agreed. From what I've seen this is about a 90% faithful port of the original. I have noticed some secrets missing, however I've also found that some of the triggers have changed. The update will be great, but the controls haven't really slowed me down a bit. Just don't forget to save every 10 minutes, as it sucks to restart a level, when you've almost completed it
I'm glad to hear the changes are coming along nicely and on schedule. I'm still enjoying the game in the interim, but it's going to flat out rock once the proper analog controls are there. I can understand the need to get this update out before all else though; everything else is secondary and can wait. On a side note, if this doesn't make #1 before the update, it sure as hell will after.
Yes, I downloaded cube when it was first released and was blown away by what the iphone was obviously capable of, but the controls were almost impossible. Cube has been updated several times, and just recently I tried to give it another go. The controls have been vastly improved. Though they are still not perfect, they are going in the right direction and they are an example of how the accelerometer can be used in an iphone fps. A control option like that in duke, and other fps would be great (cube is really just a tech demo type game). Right now, shooting things flying above me in Duke can be hard. Plus, in the tap to shoot scheme, I often find my self tapping in the field that changes your wepons when im trying to shoot something. Annoying. So if you havent yet, everyone should try Cube for a few minutes. Just walk around when the game starts and give it a chance.I think you will see the potential if that control scheme was tweaked by a major developer. Also, what about multiplayer? I used to have a blast playing this and shadow warrior against my friends all those years ago.
jebus - 10 pages of comments since my last post yesterday! again, skimmed most of them. kudos to George for running this gauntlet of a thread. thx for keeping us as in-the-loop as you have been, and good luck with the app! i'm currently at the level where you start in the submarine, but i got killed and the game won't reload the level. i'll hafta keep playing though - it borked yesterday afternoon but i can't remember the exact scenario preceeding my untimely death. i'll post back if i'm able to cause it again. it auto-saved at the point of just after death, with "touch here to restart" at the top of the screen, but only the pause & button position buttons work, and it won't restart the level.
Yes glad to hear changes are on the way I find it impossible at the moment, and I wish to kick ass and chew on my tounge. Am outta gum you see
I've got to say, for such an exciting game this is a painfully boring thread. How many pages of controls discussion can a person stand? It's getting fixed. He's looked at ideas, but I'm sure he knows where they're going with the controls now. This thread barely even talks about the game. Yawn.
Good point. This is a great game and I really think if people spent half the time adapting the controls to their preference, as opposed to bitching about them, they would find a workable solution. I'm having a ton of fun with this game and it really brings me back *sigh*. It's fun to recognize scenes and levels that you haven't played in years. I'm looking forward to subsequent updates after the control fixes.. multiplayer, cheats, map. It's only going to keep getting better.
Some of us passionate Duke gamers from back in the day made the mistake of buying the game on our 1G Touches. I can't even sync the damn thing to my device, and you're complaining that the thread's boring? My heart bleeds.
