@George Broussard Would it be possible to integrate an option to rotate the screen to the right? Because right now the speaker of my iPhone is covered with my hand so I can't hear anything
I don't have a lot of confidence in him or his team. He picked the developers, even after they completely butchered Prey. These guys aren't qualified to make a decent control scheme. They don't even know what one is - they've had two chances, and they blew it twice.
So I just bought this, only to find out that it wont sync to my First-gen touch. Anybody know if this will be fixed soon, or should I seek a refund? There's no support site, so I'm not really sure where to turn.
Was a big fan of the series when I was young, and I'm glad it's on here. Even though the controls are choppy. Also @ George. I do wanna let you know that there have been 2 occasions where the movement has been stuck in a certain direction. Like I press the button to go left or something and it's like a button being stuck on the keyboard and it keeps going left without even having my hand on the controls. I hope this makes sense and I'm not the only one. Appreciate the actual concern to make the appropriate changes!
I think that's a good polish idea and I wondered why Wolfenstein did that and now it's painfully obvious this was the reason. I actually end up muffling the sound in lots of iPhone games due to this.
why touch to shoot?! i was excited to see this one but once i saw that it was tap to shoot....and instantly lost cool points. update with wolf controls setup/control schemes like somebody else said earlier on.....THAN i would gladly purchase. like many others i was a big fan of duke nukem.......so i hope they fix controls AND add multiplayer haha in an update......than it would have its own cozy spot on my phone
i just figured out how to move on the analog controls. you know how sometimes the left analog stick works and sometimes doesnt? well, it works if you do not go through the center. so when you suddenly want to move backwards while you are moving forward, you have to bring your finger around the center instead of through it.
controls like wolf please, other idea is like the free cube fps on appstore, I really like those controls, please try them ! Great conversion otherwise!
Jetpack activation I have just picked up my first jetpack but somehow can't get it to work. Has someone already figured out how to use the jetpack with the digital controls?
Oh noes the forum police. You serious? Grow up. People can say what they want with out the egos of some ignorant forum member like your self. The game sucks. The dev sucks as, Prey is a mess. This is Duke Nukem and the devs released a pile shit. It's a joke of a port. I am not going to defend it, just because he says it's going to be fixed. Million dollars it will still control like crap. And yes from the videos. LiveFire and Modern Combat seem to be the right track when it comes to fps.
We can get a refund? I'd take my money back and move on in a heartbeat. Pity, Duke was great back in the day. RIP.
Relatively simple, just duplicate how Wolf3d did it. Make it customizable and all tilt-to-steer for those of us who really NEED to circle strafe.... Make USE/OPEN button obsolete by making contact automatic. And if you really want to spice it up, maybe simplify aiming up down by adapting the doom "altitude aim assist"?
I've spent a few hours _TRYING_ to love this game, but I've failed. The graphics as I said earlier, are fantastic, very faithful to the original title. The sound is also great (although as others have mentioned, it could do with a flip option so as not to obscure the speaker if you hold it like I do), the music isn't there yet (I understand it'll be in an update and the lack of music isn't a show-stopper) but those controls - what were the developers thinking? I think the most infuriating thing for me is that even after you've adjusted the controls and got a somewhat working control mechanism, it all defaults to normal after you've closed the app, so the developers actually took the time to add this functionality in, but didn't actually bother to finish the implementation and allow the saving of the changed control scheme?! How did this app ever pass the testing phase - I assume there was some testing, right? Is there still a long list of to-do things on a white board somewhere at the dev's office? When will developers for the app store realize that if you release a broken app it's going to get absolutely hammered in the press/forums/community/appstore reviews and that any fix is not going to be available for several weeks due to the appstore approval process. And at the end of the day that's going to result in a (thoroughly deserved) dent in your bottom line. Now, I obviously don't understand the relationship between Mr Brousssard and MachineWorks, but I would have thought there must have been some sort of sign-off from him (the original designer of the Duke Nukem games) before the developers hit the "submit" button? I would love to know what Todd Replogle thinks of this port... All in all, this was a real disappointment for me, I am a big fan of the Duke Nukem IP and to see this port just slapped together with such little thought and professionalism honestly made me quite sad. /rant
real letdowns: -does not run on the 1st gen touch. -frontpage article not even mentioning it, so i insta-bought this piece of crap.
Jebus. Some big noob hate going on all of a sudden -- from noobs who clearly didn't read the thread. THE CONTROL ISSUES ARE BEING ADDRESSED PRONTO. George has already said this is #1 on his list to take up with the developers. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DNF. Whatever the litany of reasons and excuses for DNF's epic failure and resultant closure of 3D Realms, they are DNF's alone. This is a port of an existing game. The development team who did it are not the same developers who worked on DNF. THIS IS NOT PREY. Done by the same people, yes, but the bone of contention here, as with Prey, is the controls, but the difference here is that George is already taking them to task for it and effecting control changes in the manner we want. 2ND GEN TOUCH COMPATIBILITY IS SPECIFIED. Right there under "Requirements" in the app's description like always: "Compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch (2nd generation)" 1st gen compatibility would be nice, I'll agree, if just to give those who haven't upgraded yet some Duke love too. Everyone should get some Duke love. Other stuff: The tap to shoot option may turn some off, so now would be a good time to request a fire button. The jetpack works by activating and deactivating it from the pause menu, and using jump to fly up, and crouch to fly down.
yeah man i am with you on this. Bought it right away because i have been waiting for ages. Within five minutes it's been deleted. I'd rather wait for an update and then try again. Right now it's a case of 'why did they even bother'. I honestly fail to understand how anyone that was involved in making this could have considered the current control scheme to be acceptable. Yes i understand that it is number one on their list of priorities now that people are slating it and it's denting sales... but seriously how this ever got to release in its current state is beyond comprehension. The only plausible explanation is that someone fked up and submitted a beta build.
My comments have absolutely nothing to do with ego. I am merely pointing out that it appears as though you haven't been following the discussion at all--that you haven't read any of the other comments, including what the developer has said. For you to ignore previous comments, and jump right in with a profoundly insightful statement like "The game sucks. The dev sucks as, Prey is a mess. This is Duke Nukem and the devs released a pile shit" really doesn't add anything of substance to the discussion. I know you're new to the forums, but most people do try to contribute to the conversations. Using the forum as a platform for inarticulate whining doesn't really go over all that well here. Just FYI.
