Hey dev. Don't listen to those negative people. It's not your fault that apple decides to release an update at the wrong time your game is amazing and once the update comes out that fixes the issue for everyone you'll see everyone will be singing a different tune on here. I know it sucks to spend 3 bucks in a game to not be able to play it right away but it doesn't deserve requesting a refund, it does deserve some patience. It's not the devs fault that they submit a version of the game that's compatible with the version of iOS but before the game is reviewed and okd by Apple they release an update for iOS which causes the already submitted version of the game to not work. I know that came out confusing but I'm just saying what happened here is not the devs fault it was just bad timing. @dev again: keep it up bro I've been lovin your game, I think I'm level 15 or so and having so much fun!
As I stated, I'm doing this on principle not A lack of patience or funds. If the dev is going to learn anything, he NEEDS to listen and respond to the criticism to create a better product.
We are encouraging people to get a refund with Apple if they need to or they just want to because the game didn't work on their device; but we are also encouraging people to buy the game once it's out and 100% working, because it's awesome! xD.On a serious note, we will always find something to struggle with being a two-man team developing for iOS, we are always learning and improving; sometimes is really hard to keep up because this is our livelihood, if our games don't sell, we don't get paid, if our games crash and burn, well... you know what happens. So is in our best interest to get everything fixed and ready for you to enjoy. I'll keep you posted.
There is no principle in this. Stuff happens outside your control at times. Just read the article on TA about Avernum stopping all iOS development.
For context read my first post just a few posts back. When launching an app there is, among other things, development and testing involved. I have devices that are two years old and the bugginess has been painfully present. Poor testing. Plain and simple.
I'm loving the game at the minute, even with the annoying iPad-flipping-bug to get it working. It's a real shame that it came out this way, and I hope when it does get re-released, it gets the attention it deserves. I don't know much, if anything, about costs and advertising etc, but if at all possible I suggest you get some heavy advertisment out there when it's released, splash it all over fb and toucharcade, it would be a real shame if it was just to slip on unnoticed.
Holy Moly. Don't see 15 pages of a thread for a game that no one can play very often. Don't know if the Devs like seeing that or not. And I'm adding to it.
Go to the Apple support site and email them describing your issue and include the purchase ID#. Once you describe your problem they will email you back asking for tht purchase info. After they receive it they will reimburse your purchase. Very simple. I've never asked a dev for any type of refund. Apple is the end seller and is ultimately responsible for customer satisfaction.
Exactly. Some folks are very quick to cut and run. READ (and by the looks of the spelling, that might present a challenge) the aforementioned article. You vine watching negative nancies, have the attention span of a gnat! Principle is one thing, but callously shrugging off an excellent and finely crafted game, from aspiring developers, because APPLE THEMSELVES release a broken update without warning, is misplaced and idiotic. The iOS update has ruined numerous apps and created severe battery drain issues, you've got no place in pinning the blame on the developer who had no way of anticipating such a mess. I'm just glad that mine works. Could be a long shot, but any chance we'll be able to transfer saves from the "broken" version?
Apple didn’t release a broken update. Developers who likely doesn’t follow guidelines released broken apps. iOS 8.3 was in beta for a long time, and for a long time it could be known if the application would function properly. That’s the developer’s job, not Apple’s. They can’t assure that every single app will work perfectly. If you mess up you’re the only one to blame. Especially on a .x update. The amount of stupidity regarding this matter is astounding. Really.
Just wanted to go ahead and reiterate what the dev said earlier: go ahead and get refunds if you can. Also, on a more positive note, I beta tested it and was extremely pleased. I realize that the current version people purchased was broken, but I'm not sure debating it here will change anything. All I'm doing now is waiting for it to return to the App Store, because I'm pretty sure that the dev won't make the same mistake again. Sorry for all the words.
The game costs 2.99... I'll wait on a fix, if I can't live with paying 2.99 for something that doesn't work, then o guess I'm out 3 bucks... I think the whole refund process with Apple will ultimately run premium devs out of the market... I'll make sure to screenshot this for the future when I see people whining and complaining about games being free to play....
It's somewhat playable on my device. Lol, I had to kinda figure out how to get it to work first. I have to play the game with the home button on the left side because if I play it the other way around, the jump button doesn't work, but when I pause the game to look at the map, I have to spin the phone around so the home button is on the right if I want to access anything on the pause screen. For the most part, it's no big deal to me. Every so often, I have to flip the device. It's still playable IMO. I could wait for a fix, but the game is too damn good to wait. So far, I'm really digging it. Well worth the 3 bucks.
I think that this refund process will have as much of an affect on the App Store as allowing free apps to have IAPs did. Toucharcade actually did an article on it when it was first allowed, and I laughed when I read it last week. I think people are going to have to face the fact that iOS is moving away from being considered a legitimate gaming device. There was potential, and there still is, but overall things will never be the same. For every premium game (such as the one this thread is supposed to be about), there will be at least ten free-to-play games released. When something is successful, people take notice. When people take notice, someone will try to make money off of it. There is no way around it. Apple has unwittingly created one of the simplest ways to get rich in today's world. No other gaming platform besides mobile devices would sell more Clash of Clans clones than Oceanhorns or Infinity Blades. It would just be ridiculous to even think about. But for some reason we accept it here. And of course not all F2P games are bad. Obviously there are some good ones, because you can tell when a game is designed to be a cash grab and when it is designed to be a game. Everyone on these forums likes to speculate about what will happen when the iOS gaming market is solely comprised of F2P games. But there's always going some developers who make premium games. Heck, even Gameloft still makes premium games, and they're like the mobile version of EA. I honestly think that we have reached the fullest extent of F2P games that we will see, largely in part from Apple's featured section containing at least a few new premium games every week. So, yes, refunds will change gaming. Will it be better, will it be worse, I don't know. Nobody knows what affect something like this will have on the market. But until people stop buying them, until people stop dreaming of creating games as kids, then we will always have something to look forward to. There will always be an Upcoming Games section in the forums filled with premium and F2P games. And that's why I'm not too concerned about Drylands. People are worried about losing 3 dollars (or the equivalent) on something that is going to be fixed. Those are the people who will drive out the premium developers. Not the free-to-players or the money grabbers. It's the ones who complain about having to spend less money on a game than the average Clash of Clans player has. Those people suck. Also, for developer information, this game works on my iPod 5th gen. I am also on iOS 8.1.3, so that might have something to do with it.
I also have been one of the lucky ones, where my only problem is the sfx bug. I feel safe in saying people are going to feel bad for asking for a refund when the game is rereleased and everyone can see that this is a really fun game. The whole randomized loot system from borderlands/diablo and the perks system from fallout make this game really enjoyable beyond just the base platforming and shooting action. It's on my GotY list.
