Hi all! Haven't been checking in for a few days, and boy a lot has happened!
I was so excited when I saw there was and update! Then I realized I was going to have to lay out real $$ for the Epic Love Cave since I used up all my gems to speed up trying for Moon, Sun and Sandstorm. But, hey, I fiqure that I got so much enjoyment (?) from DragonVale that it was worth spending a few $$'s.

I've had a good last few days. Got a second Moon egg and Reindeer on the second try. (forget what I used though...) Still no luck with Sun, but that's the last one I need.

Girlpower, glad to see you are finally getting some luck and that you got your precious Moon! You had such a long frustating spell there. I don't think I'm going to hatch my second Moon for awhile-no habitat and it looks so cute in the nursery.

Bluangl, loved your story about your son hijacking your phone! lol!

Narakai, I'm with you- the repetitive breeding for the shrines is boring. I keep thinking of all the eggs I've sold off that could have counted towards the 50. Sheesh! And I wish there was another island, too. I spent so much time when I was bored on decorating the 3rd island and I don't want to undo it to make more room. :(

Hookedat40, glad you finally got that Sun! We were pretty close in our breeding times, but you got Sun and I got Moon? Did you get your Rainbow yet?

Wishing epic rare dragon breeding for all!

Hiya Dando....just to clarify....I got my moon, and both reindeer in the normal cave, not the epic one :)
LOL I did try for my reindeer the first time in the epic and it was a fail, then I got two reindeer back to back in the original cave.....so me thinks the big hype BFS spins about the epic cave is just that, a nice little story to suck us in

I had been saving my gems from gifts and colosseum, but I had also purchased 50 a little while ago and had only used about 3 - 4, so I was extremely lucky to just have enough with one left over.

One disadvantage with having two breeding caves (for me anyway) is the fact that backflip didn't bother to include a nursery upgrade, so depending on incubating times of what's cooking, 4 slots may not always be enough....which I am experiencing right now because of my moon baby hogging a slot for ages.....not that I am complaining about that welcome precious edition.

I will gift you when I can to try and help....wouldn't it have been great if they had also allowed us to gift more than three per day?
Thanks also for your encouragement ;)

Who ever said reindeer was easy... 4 Seaweeds, 3 Ice, 1 Tree and now a Swamp on the way. Tempted to get that breeding cave but I'm not going to support their greed.

If I ever get mine, it's gonna be called THORN! Hah, I like the sound of starving it, but I am so ticked off with this one, it will be more like a week!
    Karma at its best.

I just tried air/quake...:( that should say it all and I will add
I just read before on the wiki forum that someone got it using lvl 10 air and lvl 4 mud....ahhh I don't have a lvl 4 mud as I have been levelling my dragons up for the shrine challenge....I am darned if I know what to try for sandstorm anymore either....it's so weird how some of us are REALLY struggling with this one, not the usual 10 or so tries on this, then deem it hard to get.....Ohh no....way more than that and still nothing.....I personally have a real love/hate thingy with this one.....I love to hate it hehe...

I think this is how it works, seems to be the case.
Also, as Bluangl27 had said earlier as she is on lvl 22, as you lvl up more shrines become avallable.
I am now on lvl 21 and now have the cold shrine, so it's going to take some time if we want to get 50 per element (bear in mind that the hybrids are a combination of two different elements) so I would assume they will cover two shrines in the count....if you get my meaning?

Haven't got your friend request yet, but will look out for it.
Pm me and I will provide my GC name,as it's not just girlpower :D

Yep, me too on the bone one :( so made sure I got in early with reindeer just incase it was the same story as the bone one for me......I couldn't breed that either, was running out of time and had to end up buying it or missing out..GRR.
Wow, I looked at your two suns breeding, they are huge together hovering over the cave aren't they....quiet a sight to behold and hopefully the only time you will get to see this spectacular 48 hr moment

I sent your daughter a gem to help out a little....oh My ice/willow combo was a bit presumptuous now I see her game level.....sorry I wasn't any help after all.
I also really hope you get your moon one this time, thanks for the sun offer....oh if only we could gift to someone who has put in the effort, what a nice feeling that would be huh?

    Ohh....sorry to hear that :(
What combos have you been using?
Cold/swamp didn't work for me, but I read cold/willow worked on another forum....then when I went to breed them, I got mixed up and thought it was ice/willow....haha, well that worked anyway.
Well you know what my breeding track record is like, so I didn't want to tempt fate by trying these two back to back, so had also read that ice/plant worked, so did that combo straight after the first success and bam, got my second one....
They were all lvl 10, not sure if you have tried these at all?

Yeah your unluckier than me lol. I gave up on Moon, but can't give up on this cause it's seasonal. I've tried Cold/Moss, Cold/Swamp, Ice/Plant. I'll try Cold/Willow in 5 hours time.

My son told me today he wanted a baby sun. :) So he wants me to sell one big one for the baby. That's why he did it. Haha.
They do look huge in there! The nursery is also going to be my downfall. I never upgraded it past two slots. Going to save my gems to do that or else I'll be stuck waiting forever two caves or not.
Thanks @girlpower for sending the gem to my girl. I also grabbed a bunch of my own GC friends so she can visit other people so she's happy. I'll help her along leveling up so maybe she can get a reindeer somehow. Tried her tree and cold last night and got 14 hour wait. Blah.
Still haven't figured out the advantage of leveling them up to 15. I'll shoot myself if doing it unlocks a fourth island. Who knows? But I just don't have the patience.
For now waiting for my moon (fingers crossed) I'm occupying my time with pocket potions, we rule, and trade nations. At least they keep me a bit sane. ;)

Ok. I finally got this sorted out. I downloaded, installed, and logged into it on my 3GS, and behold, I could see the friends! AND ... it had a winter look to it, which my IP4s did not!

I tried deleting and reinstalling again on the 4s, but same result.

    SO ..

I deleted it from iTunes, deleted it from the phone, logged out of game center. Sync'd the phone with iTunes. Downloaded Dragonvale from iTunes. Sync'd the phone again to move it over. Opened Dragonvale, logged back into game center ... and POOF! Winter update, and visable friends!

May not work for everyone, but if a search brought you to this thread, it might be worth a shot!

DRAGONVALE GUIDE ~ Dragon Shrines ~ Fastest and cheapest way to activate ALL shrines

    .
    .
    .
This guide will teach you everything you need to know about dragon shrines in DragonVale,
It'll also show you the fastest way to activate ALL statues, saving you almost HALF the time it'd take otherwise.
And also saving you millions of dragonvale dollars.AND possibly even save your hand from carpal tunnel syndrome from tapping "feed" a million times on 7 different dragon elements, instead, you only need to breed 4 different dragons to unlock ALL statues, saving you lots of tapping, heaps of time (DAYS) , and money (MILLIONS) , your hand will thank you ! ;) & then you can use your hand for more important things!

NOTE- If your relatively new to dragon shrines, please read entire article, if you already have experience with dragon shrines and already know the basic ins & outs, just read the bolded paragraphs, ( if you dont want to read a wall of text of information you already know.)

    ACTIVATING A DRAGON SHRINE
To activate a dragon shrine, you need to have had 50 dragons of that element to have reached level 10 at some point of time, you don't need to have all 50 dragons at once, and if you had leveled up a dragon a while ago, even before dragon shrines came out, it still counts it.
Leveling up, then deleting the dragon right away is the easiest way to accumulate the 50, and allows you to keep all your habitats and dragons.

A plant shrine needs 50 dragons with the plant element to be leveled to level 10, it doesn't have to be plant element alone, it can be a poison dragon (plant/fire) or whichever other element combination you'd like.

NOTE: Previous dragons are also included in that total, even if you levelled up those dragons before you bought the shrine.

The average level 20 user will probably have approximately 10 dragons from each shrine already done from previous breeding and leveling up.
Most of mine started out as 10/50, but some were lower, such as cold dragon, only had 6.

You can check the dragon tally by clicking on the statue and clicking the "?" icon.

All statues start of as bronze, then when you activate a statue it'll turn silver, and it'll allow you to level up that particular breed to level 15. (it takes alot of food so i suggest activating all the statues first by feeding 50 of each elements to level 10) then when that's done you can leisurely start upgrading all your dragons to level 15.

Once you activate a statue, and you feed a dragon past level 10, (even just one food bite) your dragon in question will then have a colored orb above it's head, the color corresponds to the element of the dragon and shrine (plant is green, fire is red, etc)

There are 7 shrines to unlock in total, which are-
Fire, Plant, Earth, cold, lightning, water, air.
    In that order.
The first 3 are unlocked at level 20, then cold is unlocked at 21, lightning at 22, then lastly, water and air by level 25.

All statues are bronze to begin, then silver after singular activation, then gold once all statues have been activated and all dragons in your park are level 15.
(will not spoil what happens next)

The quickest, cheapest and least food consuming way to activate all shrines are by leveling up these 4 dragons, instead of individually leveling up all 7 individually.

    Poison - fire/plant - 30 mins
    Sandstorm- wind/earth- 2 hours
    Water- alone/egg- 4 hours
    Storm - Lightning/cold = 5 hours

Time it'll take to breed all 50 dragons:

Note- this process can be sped up with gems, & this guide is for 50 dragons, the requirement, though many of you won't need 50 as like I said earlier, you'll probably already have about 10 dragons already completed, so youll probably only need to do about 40, it can be shorter then these times so don't get turned off at the hard work and patience it will take! It's worth it in the end!

It'll take an even shorter amount of time If you own the "epic breeding cave" & can have 2 lots of dragons breeding at the same time, I'll abbreviate "epic breeding cave" to EBC below.

    Times

Storm-250 hours -10 days or 5 days EBC
Poison- 25 hours -1 day or 12.5 hours EBC
Sandstorm 100 hours 4 days or 2 EBC
    Water-200 hours-8 days-4 days EBC

    TOTAL for all dragons=
23 days, or 11.5 days with the epic breeding cave.

If you have 10 dragons of each element already made beforehand, like I had, the time will be reduced by 100 hours, or approximately 4 days
Which will then bring the total to: 19 days or 7.5 (with EBC)

If you bred all the dragon elements Individually it'd take:
= 42 days or 21 days with the epic breeding cave.

So you will be saving HEAPS of time! 19 days to be exact!

    DRAGON TREATS

you will need alot of food to do this.. It takes Approx 10k food per dragon to level it to level 10

I prefer buying "Beanstalk" treats, which is 100,000 treats for 5 million dollars. Its the quickest way, It only takes 1 hour to make 900,000 treats. But it'll cost ya!
    (45 million to be exact!)

You will need 2 million treats to level up all 50 of each dragons I mentioned earlier (storm, poison, sandstorm, water)

Which will only take 2 hours to make if you select "beanstalk" in each of your 9 treatfarms, harvest, and repeat once.

You won't exactly have 2 million treats, you will have a few hundred thousand less but that most likely won't matter because again, you probably already have leveled up some dragons in the past, so you probably won't need to level up 50 of each dragon with treats, probably more like 40ish. And if you don't have 10 already complete you can always make more later

TOTAL TREATS COST-$90 million (for ALL the treats)

You don't have to buy them all at once, just make food as you can afford it, if you want to do it fast like me, you'll buy beanstalks for 5 million, but of course you COULD do it the tediously slower by cheaper way too,(by making pumpkin treats instead or whatever) but that would take many many hours, each to their own though!

If you don't have the money maybe you should breed a bunch of air dragons and keep selling them for profit, I'd personally rather do that then spend multiple days/weeks on end making food the cheap way (5 minute treats )

Even though the treats sound like ALOT of money, you still save ALOT of money doing it this way.
if you did each of the elements individually- it would have set you back 3.5 million treats, which would cost around 175 million dollars **shudder**

    Your saving 1.5 million food
Which amounts to a $85 million dollar saving.

(if you were to compare it with the amounts if you were to breed each elemental dragon individually instead of doubling up in the time-saving way I mentioned)

The time reduction is the most lucrative thing in this guide in my opinion!

I'm SO impatient, that's what drove me to work out the quickest combinations of dragons in the first place, and after I had already written it all up, I thought i may as well share it, though it turned into alot more text then I originally thought it would!

    EXTRA

Please remember you DO NOT need to have every statue to do this, it doesn't matter if you have bought the statue or even unlocked the statue yet, either way the dragons you level to 10 are still accounted for no matter what[\B] if you don't believe me, level up a plant dragon to level 10 before you buy the plant shrine, then buy the plant shrine and click the "?" on the shrine and it'll say at least 1/50, probably more, since most people would have leveled up quite a few dragons to adulthood even before this update came out! Even if you deleted that dragon, even if it was months ago IT STILL COUNTS ON THE TALLY
Which means, if you really wanted to, you can start working your way through your 50 dragons of each element very early on, possibly even if your only level 1, but I doubt anyone would be interested in shrines already at level 1 anyway, I'm just making a point! You don't need to have unlocked shrines yet to start working to activate them, you could level up 50 plant dragons at level 10, then by the time your level 20 and you unlock the shrines, and build the shrines, then your shrines would be immediately activated! That would be nice!
It'd be nice to have leisurely worked at this for months leading up, rather then to desperately try to do it as fast as you can now, it gets tedious, I wish I had leveled up all those failed eggs now!

NOTE: don't ever just sell eggs straight of the nursery, even if your only level 16, place them in a habitat, level them to level 10, it'll save you a lot of heart ache later, trust me! It'll make it easier in the long run!
(but only level them up if they contain one or more of the statue elements, plant, fire, earth, water, air, lightning, cold) That way you'll have less eggs to have to breed later on

Try to Breed two of each of the dragons I listed (Poison, storm, sandstorm) not water dragons as you can just buy the egg directly, but try to get 2 poisons, sandstorms, storms to avoid failure dragons, making it as quick as possible! Especially if your not ready for shrines yet, it would be good to just be prepared early on so you know not to sell a failure storm dragon as it can do you good later on.

To level up from level 10 - 15 it takes#317,440 dragon treats
Which costs approx 15 million, if your using beanstalk treats
In total, leveling a dragon from 1 to 15 takes 330,000 dragon treats.

Fun fact- once you activate all 7 shrines, you can raise 30 different dragon breeds to level 15, If you wanted a dragon of each element to be leveled to complete adulthood, it'd take almost 1 billion treats, (9990000 to be precise) which would cost 500 million dragonvale dollars

    bonus tip:
Easiest way to get a reindeer is to breed bluefire and plant, the only failures are 30 minute poison, or a 1 hour flower, and if you get a failure poison keep it anyway, as you'll need it for shrines ;)

Bonus tip #2 - the easiest way to get bluefire is to breed reindeer with a fire

AndyPandy, sometimes I have more success if I give trying for one a break. Try for something else and then get back to the Reindeer quest. It is so frustrating when it feels like you're the only one having trouble.;) Sandstorm was like that for me...weeks of fails. Then when I gave up- boom!
    Good luck!
