It sounds like the mobile version is a direct port of the Japanese PS2 version, which never had VA (I guess it was added to the localized Western release). So no, it sounds like there is no VA.
for sure this is not a game for .99c gamers. this port was made for japanese gamers and dq fans are lucky that an english version was released worldwide. ppl say they want nintendo to port their games to mobile phones but they don't want to pay 20$ for a dq port, how much would you pay for a donkey kong or a super mario port, .99c and you'll ask some iaps for extra lifes too 'cos three lifes aren't enough and you can't find the hidden ones? or you'll say you already have it on your emulator? i don't remember having any game worth a buck when i was a kid. why ppl who don't want to buy this game waste their time posting in this thread, and waste our time too 'cos we have to read useless comments. share your opinion after you bought the game and played a couple of hours, don't blame one of the few devs that are still making premium games and brings old memories in our pockets
Load times are similar to the Japanese PS2 version. They're present but slightly shorter than the US PS2 version. Framerate's a bit choppy on a 5S. I imagine it only gets worse from there down.
I don't understand the nonexistant support for year-old-ish devices when you have infinity blade and Horn working properly on these. And btw is this like a watered down DQ? Like is the difficulty toned down to please casuals?
I mentioned earlier on the thread there's an article out there that mentions that SE needed to use Unity to get these games on mobile. It seems like the lack of expertise in using Unity at SE might be why it seems unoptimized.
No, this is DQ8 exactly as it was on PS2. It's not super-hard, nor is it terribly easy, but it's worth pointing out that DQ games are meant to be enjoyed by all ages in Japan. The series by definition is aimed at "casual" players and hardcore alike. The game should run better than it does, but I don't know if pointing to Infinity Blade and Horn is fair. Those games are based around small, closed rooms, while Dragon Quest 8 has a lot of wide open areas, especially in the overworld. Again, I think it should run better than it does (either SE's inexperience with Unity got in the way or the documentation isn't so hot in Japanese, which was an early problem with UE3 uptake among Japanese developers), but in terms of processing, it has to do a lot more than throw a couple of moving characters in a small area and slap a bunch of hardware shaders on everything.
anyone else had/has issues downloading/installing the game? i'm tryin for an hour and can't install it... edit: nvm. is installing right now
Was really excited for this but i only have 4S and from i read its probably not worth it with frame rates issues on older devices. I blame SE because San Andreas ran pretty well. Will get that Battleheart game instead hehe.
: )) dunno. my device is iphone 5 ios 7.1.1 edit: maybe you played a couple of hours and the extra mb are save files? i only opened the game, didn't played yet. my doc & data shows 16,7mb. how much shows yours when you click the game in usage?
