Such a good game. I've clocked more hours in this than Watch Dogs :).

What devices are you playing on? Also, Jail-broke? I'm playing on non jailbroken iPad4 and iPhone 5S and it plays great on both and portrait doesn't bother me.
BTW, Co-worker of mine played a pirated version on android and it played like garbage.

I'm playing a purchased app on a jailbroken iPhone 5S and it runs great. Haven't had any issues, and I've had it running in the background all day so I can jump in and out often. This is the perfect way for really busy people to be able to tackle these long, deep games without sacrificing hours in front of a television. I just wish I could have been doing this with these quality of games two decades ago! Back then the 4th grade me was impressed with gray scale Tetris on a huge original Gameboy. And now we're playing PS2 games on our PHONES. Even at 25-30fps, this is really sweet.

Playing on a Nexus 7 and an HTC One M8, runs great on Android.

i'm playing this on a non jb ip5, am up to yangus's manor (cockney for town) and i love this game like it's my baby, got used to the controls and portrait only mode in 1 hour, i have 16g ip5 with 1.2g remaining space, hardly notice the slowdown but it is there but on ip5 i dont think its sega rally 2 on dreamcast bad, honestly? i couldn't care less cos i love the fact i can play this classic rpg on my phone!!! i definately do not regret buying this game and if you have fond memories of this game, i couldn't recommend it enough, 5 stars for me all the way ha ha

Hehe I found my old strategy guide for the game from when it came out on PS2. Huge guide but sooooo worth it! Glad I kept those around :)

Non-jailbroken iPad 4 on iOS 7.0.4 and the mobile port just flat-out doesn't run as smoothly as the PS2 original did. It's not a terribly encouraging port, but hey, at least it's mobile. I just wish it ran more like the PS2 version did, that's all.

This is just Square's laziness at work, other PS2 ports work smoothly on iOS devices.

after playin on the ps2 version for around an hour, can say that with just scart lead the visuals are quite fuzzy but colors are more vivid, few extra things like little birds on the ground in the field but ios version is much sharper believe it or not!! voice acting is great though but got to say, put ps2 v down to carry on with this one on ios, oh god, i'm not going to have a life at all now ha ha

So, I enjoy RPGs a lot. I was wondering how much depth this game has, and how the exploration in this game is. Is the exploration in this game entertaining/exciting, or is it more linear?

Feels like I can go almost anywhere that I want (that I've already been to in the story) to explore. It's a linear story, like most. But the exploration and grinding away at random battles is a game in itself.

I just bought a £15 iTunes card but now I'm trying to decide which of my two most wanted games to buy. I won't have any more money for games for the next 6-8 weeks.

    Dragon Quest VIII or
    Baldur's Gate 2

    ..hard choice :)

    I'd go with BG2.

Personally I have more fun with this type of game but both are good choices. I still have BG2 on my watch list.

I'm loving the game on my iPad Air but his review was factually accurate. There is the orchestras and voices removed as also stated in the TA review. On ipad of course landscape mode would have been much better. I don't have any issues with framerate or washed out colors I think the graphics are great.

But I would strongly recommend BUYING it because its in a class all of its own. There's just no other game like this that can compete on this level. The story is deep and intriguing and I've had some wonderful, wonderful experiences already. I played this all day today. I love the battles. Especially the strategies. At first I kept getting beaten by a boss then I changed my strategy to have one character heal and he kept them alive long enough to win. With the next boss I was sure I'd lose but I put one of my weakest heroes on defend another on heal and my strongest on attack and 2 of them got killed but the attacking hero just won in the last breath and I took him down.

This is a game not to not to buy in other words you're mad if you don't buy it.

Are there any other medium-to-big scale RPGs like this which can be played in vertical position? I need to stand for an hour each day on the train and vertical position is much better for me. Other genres are okay too like Phoenix Wright HD. Thanks!

The only two that I can think of are
    -Knights of Pen & Paper
    -Lunar: Silver Star Story Touch

And unfortunately they are both a bit different from this one.

Personally, I love playing in portrait mode, which is one reason I still play Final Fantasy: All the Bravest til this day. I wish there were more RPGs that offered the option to play in both portrait and landscape. It's the perfect genre for it, since it is more comfortable holding a phone one handed in portrait.

Your other option would be to install an emulator like GBA4iOS and then a whole world of awesome RPGs open up to you... and they can all be played in portrait or landscape! I own quite a few GBA games that are all in a box somewhere (thanks to stupid GBA rechargeable battery dying) and I couldn't play them until I got my iPhone! Now I'm going back through a few of them.
