I just wish someone would create an app like fraps for iphone, there's fps meter app on android hopefully it will get an ios port someday.I'll look up on youtube maybe someone has an hd video of it running on a 5s.
Just in case I win £25 on the lottery this week and can afford this.. How does this run on an iPad Air? Any fps/stuttering issues?
Not perfect no the framerate but perfectly playable and enjoyable. I'm like 20 hours in the game on iPad Air and loving it.
I'm playing on 5S and Mini retina and have had no framerate or lag issues. It's very playable on both devices and one handed portrait play and great ICloud integration means I've been able to stick 20 hours in so far and I'm loving every minute. Don't get me wrong I'm guessing the gameplay is around 25 to 30 FPS which I guess could be better. I've not even thought about FPS once during those 20 hours though. For me it's a non-issue. Just thought if drop in my opinion. Id hate anyone to miss this because they think it has worse issues than it has. It's such a great great game and so much fun but if you read this thread you would assume the game is a mass of issues which simply is not true imo.
Yes I second that, I don't think about fps or think this game has. It's a masterpiece in design and a memorable experience without flaws. I prefer to play in iPad by the way
I prefer to play on IPad so I can see everything. I love the control on iPhone though. It's great for a bit of grinding but then I wait sometimes to play story scenes etc on my mini retina. I have the large d-pad centrally positioned on my 5S and I'm playing with the small d-pad to the left on my mini retina. It's very comfortable to play on mini retina but even more comfortable on my 5S that lets me play with full controls whilst brushing my teeth!
I like playing on the iPad as well. I use the small controller, centered, which allows me to quickly shift the camera as needed. Don't overlook the little boots ico which has you continuously run, and you change directions touching the left or right side. Nice for long distance travels.
I'm quite happy with it. Bit of lag but the game's amazing. It doesn't matter which game I would've missed out on buying this year except this one. I could give reasons for not buying just about every 5 star game but this. This is in a class of its own. There is nothing, in my view that even comes close to this on the App Store including game of the year certainties. As a game, as an adventure, as an rpg this stands alone unchallenged. Battleheart Legacy was a great game and I loved it and 5 starred it but as soon as I picked this up and played it even in portrait and even with a bit of lag I realised this is in another world. This game is a universe by itself.
Game is amazing, looks fantastic on iphone. Word of advice though, either spend your money or save often. Turns out you lose half your money if you die! Didn't know myself and lost over 500 gold, prob not much in the long run but it sure as hell is at the level I'm at!
For anyone on the fence about buying this, especially with it's $20 price tag... If you like jrpgs and will play an ios game for 59-100+ hours - don't hesitate to get it. It is far and away the best jrpg on the App Store. If you loved DQ8 on the PS2, it will take a little getting used to the verticals format, no voice acting, no orchestral music, and different menu, but after the first hour or two you will fall in love again. It's a must have on your ios device. It's an incredible adventure, even with less than stellar frame rates it's gorgeous. So even if you aren't a huge fan of grindy games I would say pick it up, even if you wait for a sale. Though a sale may not happen until Xmas at the earliest, SE isn't known for frequent sales. Battleheart legacy is a lot of fun, I bought both at the same time, but they are completely different experiences. Both worth their respective prices.
Coming from the PS2 version, I can attest that this game is golden. Having said that, because I have hundreds of hours under my belt with that version, the iOS version's framerate and comparatively sluggish responsiveness/feel make me feel like the game is this close to crashing all the time, which is something I will need time to get used to. I also find the control layout more than a little unconventional and hard to get used to, but that's in part due to me playing on iPad (4th gen). I reckon it feels better on a smaller iOS device. Enjoy the game, everyone!
Contrary to the description, this game works fairly well on the iPhone 4s so for those hesitate to play the game on it, don't. A little frame drops while in FPS mode but neglectable. From the gameplay videos, it seems to play a hair slower than the 5s.
I totally agree with this. I can't believe how great Dragon Quest VIII looks on my iPad. I never really played too much of the PS2 version, but the frame rate seems fine to me. These are the types of games we need to see more of for iOS, which is why we need to support devs who make premium games at a premium price.
Playing now for about 12 hours, I am really happy with the new UI. Although the graphics are a bit blocky, and some lag on my ipad 3, the new controls really make moving, looking, talking, exploring, quite effortless. The menu system is great, and the alchemy pot working quickly is really a blessing. Having a great time playing this classic.
One tip for hunting Metal Slimes: if you have a skill that is basically a critical hit or nothing like Yangus's Hatchet Man axe skill, you should use that against them. If the blow lands, it'll kill them in one hit, and it's no less likely to hit than a regular attack against them.
