a question for all players who played more then one SE's jrpg from past and present: what is the strongest enemy you test your skilled with? dosen't matter if you beat him or you got defeat. i played all dq series, just ff series from 1 to 7 +ff dimensions, all chaos rings series and chrono trigger. arpgs dosen't count, neither ff tactics.
and the only enemy that felt really tough, for me, is the ffV side-quest omega boss. he could kill your entire party in 1-2turns, from what i remember the first time i manage to defeat him just after 8-10tries, really challenging, just how i like it:)

edit: i know from some friends that ffVIII (from what i remember i think ffVIII) had a tough omega too, but i didn't had the chance to play any ff above VII

I am playing on iphone 5. If you are used to 60fps all the time for gaming , you will notice the difference. But the game is running at least 30 fps for me, smooth transition from town to world map or battle no spiking or lag at all. Just not as fluid as 60fps game.

Thx for the reply,I know but your device is an iph5,games generally run better on iph 5 than on 5s.The reviewer said that the framerate was pretty bad on the device,I just want to make sure if it's the same for everyone or not.

Also are the graphics really improved for the release because those screen shots don't appear to be any different from those on my ps2?thx.:)

i have 10h of play on iphone 5 and runs perfect. on iphone 5S may have small issues becouse i don't think is optimized 100%for the 64bit arch.

the japanese paid more then 20$ and they didn't complain that we pay less. is an old-new game remade for mobile phones and is an amazing port that makes you feel a gamer, not a flappy bird player:)

edit: i also played the ps2 version but this ios port is remade so good to fit for mobile phones that i enjoy it more then the ps2 v.

Thanks,I know it's an incredible game no doubt about that but the reviewer was pretty iffy about the fps I just hope it's a consistent 30+fps otherwise I may not buy it.20$ is asking a lot for such an old game imo,I would gladly pay thay much money for it if it was enhanced or atleast performed reliably.

But each to his own I'm a pc gamer so I'm not really used to lower framerates and anything lower than 30 becomes a very uncomfortable experience for me,but that's just me.:)

Most of the time it's in the high 20s to 30 FPS on my 5S. Some areas (the same areas where the framerate dipped on the PS2 version), it falls to low 20s/20 FPS. It's noticeably less smooth than the PS2 version but by iOS standards for 3D games, it's fine.

The only graphic enhancements come from the increased resolution compared to the PS2 version. If I had to guess, this is probably part of the culprit in the FPS hit.

you can ask Shaun Musgrave, the person who wrote the review. i saw he put some good hours into it and if he played from an 5S can give you more info.

i understand you 'cos i was a pc gamer too but that was years ago. and for me, having any legit port on my idevice is really nice, dosen't matter how good the framerate is becouse when i was a kid i always had one gen back second hand rusty consoles while my friends had the new gen new consoles and i learned to appreciate and to enjoy games no matter what, and playing old ports on my iphone is always nice

Man that's disappointing I thought being a port of a ps2 game it would work smoothly without any hassle.I really want to like this game but the price coupled with the fps seems to be a no-no for me atleast for the time being.Maybe if they fix the issues or lower the price then I may think about it then.
And thanks for the reply you just saved me a lot of inconvenience.:)

We're like soul brothers then! I had the same exact thing happening for me when I was a kid.Hell the first console I ever had was an snes and than was in 2004.The last console I ever had was my ps2 which I got in 2006 only because my snes broke down.Been a pc gamer ever since but would trade anything for those days.:)

They've done 6 updates to the Japanese version since it launched in Dec, all of which are included in the current English build. The game has come a loooong way already, if you can believe it. So, I think there's good reason to expect more improvements. This App is a huge, huge hit for them in Japan, after all.

Yiazmat, FF12, hands down, no contest. Unless we're counting bosses from 11 and 14.

I hope so too,If they do release an update and are able to fix those issues then I may buy it until then though I'll tread lightly.I've been burned already with tasm2 which is still not fixed so I don't want to put money into something that may prove to be more annoying than fun.Though the 6 updates do certainly look promising, fingers crossed for fps fix.:)

And thx for a great review btw, most reviewers don't really mention technical shortcomings and how they affect the whole experience but yours was truly an informative one.:D

to bad i didn't played ff12, would have been really nice to battle that boss:)
    thank you for your reply/info.

i agree, and those are some platinum memories (and i'm only 29). i'm still in good contact with my childhood friends but we all have diffrent life roads now, and they mostly play on their 3ds and ps vita, they don't play much on idevices becouse don't like how the mobile phones devs take the gaming these days (few games allows you to discover and get/unlock stuff just by playing, so you rarely can test your skills and enjoy a legit mobile game), but they bought dq viii on their idevices after i show'd them 1h of gameplay:)

Hey,while you are at it show them kotor, xcom and Dq8 all running at the same time while you effortlessly juggle between the three games(They run simultaneously without closing).I did the same and the look on the face of my friends was priceless.:D

It's true that is disappointing, for exemple GTA SA don't have any fps problems like this one have. But in iPhone 5s I don't see it as a problem, in iPad is more apparent. And is a slow pace game so the fps are not that important, but for you playing in PC will be different.

I think that if you like JRPGs you will have a good time with this one and that is the most important thing to like this game. And I don't think it feels old apart from the turn based combat. In Christmas time they do sales and should be like 10 $.

@Asd the dark aeons from FFX are giving me a hard time and this second time playing it I only won to the first 2 of 6 and after that there is another big boss even harder.

I like challenges but I still have to defeat omega from FFV. Will try again when maxed professions and all

i took a break from the main quest (go to port to look for Jess) 'cos i goed to defeat that dinosaur that pluto6 was talkin about and now i also did the cheese quest, and i'm gald i did it becouse i found one seed of agility too in that man's little house, also found one chest with 82gold near the red leef tree.

and now i have 10h of gameplay and both party members are level 12, and i'm just at beggin' ... really amazing that a mobile game can offer all these stats

    @goodboy
now i don't have the space to reinstall those games, but i remember how they laugh' at me when i show'd them an hour of ibIII gameplay when it was released. they got bored to watch me how i take the same train over and over for an hour without nothing new being discovered:)

    @Shinto
feels kinda bad that i only played ff from 1to7.
and i defeat omega from ffV only twice, once in past and once on ios. he is one tough super-boss:)

I know, the game is terrific I would put it easily in one of my all time favorite lists but the fps seems far to bad for it to be enjoyable.I made the same mistake with tasm2 and Sa and ended up deleting both of them.Of course the bad fps could have excused since it's an rpg but still the price is much too high and there are no visible improvements from the ps2 version.Like I said if they patch it and lower the price then I may buy it but in it's current state it's not worth it in my opinion.

Same here man xcom is 3gb and kotor is around 2.5gb combined a whopping 5.5gb,but it's just a great feeling to have games of this caliber running on a handheld.Maybe we can have skyrim someday since it's around 5.5gb on my laptop.I'm sure the 5s can run it at around medium settings since it more powerful than my crappy lappy which can run it surprisingly at ~30fps on medium ...A man can dream can't he?:p

now i have only 18-20games installed and i have just around 800mb free space, and i had to delete ffVI (already completed with just a couple of stuff that some characters had to learn missing , and was in my 2nd playtrough) but had to delete something 'cos was at the limit with the space. my iphone has only 16gb, not to say that from 16gb a couple goes to the device stuff...and this makes the idevices being v limited when it comes to space.
the only games that were/are in my upcoming games wishlist:
DK, DQVIII, MH & MK9 ...i think i had a few more but can't remember now wich were :)
edit: i think Portal was on the list too, not to say about a legit premium port of diablo ... is just a wishlist^^
