dq viii thread got more attention and comments when the game didn't had the english translation, and all ppl kept asking when the eng v will come...now when is finally here this thread feels kinda empty and just a couple of players are active... even the monster hunter (jp) thread has more users posting and being active... and those ppl are not from jpn. they are only players who bought their fav game even if they dunno japanese... anyway, nice sharing stuff with you Shinto, and maybe we will get mh eng v too soon
Yes you are right, maybe that people are now playing the game now that is released worldwide. Maybe later more persons will share thoughts of DQ8. I recently played MH unite on the vita but I can't with the fixed camera angles. In iOS version I read that is improved so I will try again when is released. I'm sure before summer it will get released in English but I will finish this one first because in PS2 I didn't because other games and I don't want the same to happen
maybe you are right. this game for sure deserves the support from all dq fans becouse is a really amazing old-new game remade for mobile phones, well, i hope it will get the support it needs so we can get more games like this in the close future i'm waiting the eng v of mh too, would be nice if it cames out this summer
One point of advice I mentioned in the review, if you're playing for the first time, is that you should focus your skill points on one or two types. If you spread your points around too much, you won't be able to get the best skill on any of them. *Which* ones you choose don't matter so much, they're all good sets of skills (loosely corresponding to one of the job class types in other DQ games). This time I went Boomers/Courage on the Hero, Fisticuffs/Humanity on Yangus, Staff/Sex Appeal on Jessica, and Swords/Bows for Angelo. I did an "All Fisticuffs" run on the Japanese PS2 version once and that was a heck of a lot of fun.
Yes thanks for the advice in the review, I went boomers/courage too and axes humanity with Yangus. 100 skill points will be hard to get for sure. But I suppose after topping 2 brands I can get another grinding a little bit or maybe there is a level cap. Or I will finish the game and that's all, I don't know yet
There is a level cap, and therefore a finite amount of skill points to go around, but if I remember right, you get enough to cover a few categories, but not enough for all of them. You'll just have to enjoy a second play-through. And a third. And why not a fourth, it's easy to play when it's on your mobile device.
Ah ok nice to have that info. Yes I think I will play the game a second time with different skills and doing all faster. This game won't leave my phone like never.
I guess this forum is so "empty" because people don't want to spend that "much" money on a premium game, but it's really their loss IMO
After launching and playing through the first 45 minutes, I gotta say DQ8 is a fantastically produced/designed game gem. It feels almost foreign playing on an iOS device, as if it doesn't belong. The story so far is leagues better than I was anticipating. This is gonna be a fun game to play, and I feel will keep me playing for hours to come. Such a beautiful game! Edit: Still really enjoying this.
This ^^ is very true imo. (I might add I've not bought the game yet but only because my App Store account only has £10.54 and I don't have enough, if I did, I'd snap it up )
nice tip for new dq players Shaun M. i've read all you wrote on TA dq viii review and was a nice little lecture to read (dunno if you saw but already mention it in this thread 'cos didn't allowed me to comment on review comment section). it deserves a 5 star review but this is just my opinion and anyone can have their diffrent opinions. is nice seing other TA users being active here too like can you see in the screenshot i posted earlier for now i've put my skill points just in "sword" for hero and "humanity" for yangus. probably courage for hero and axes for yangus will be the second options, but i'm still thinkin' and i'll probably replay dq viii at least 2-3 times, well, i played and finished chrono trigger twice and secret of mana twice on my idevice and have finished those two games a couple of times in past too, and this dq port is so good that i can't complete it just once when i can have it always in my pocket, probably i'll enjoy it for months and months. edit: if someone is having issues with my english...well is not my native language and i hope everyone gets my point 'cos i talk/write without using no dictionary and i can't find the right words all the time but my intentions are all good and i just wanna have fun sharing dq related stuff with other dq fans
About your English I can't say because is not my primary language neither. I just learnt it playing games like Zelda or Illusion of time back in the day with a dictionary. And lots of people had the PS2 and if they like RPGs they had played this game and replaying a 60 hours game is not something everyone like to do. But I like to see that more people here are interested. The more I play the more I like it. I just finished Alexandra tower. At the end I had 5 treasures to find and I thought I searched everywhere but I have all now
@Shinto just reached the tower too but the doors are locked, and i learned english from movies since i was a kid : ) @all new players a little tip is to always have/buy a dozen of healing potions, they don't cost that much and worth spending 100-200 gold at begginin. i always had enough healing potions in my bag/inventory when i played jrpgs and i can say they help alot when you are out of mp or you want to save your mp for other stuff and you have a long way untill you get to next town/shop.
Does anyone know if this would work at all on an iPhone 4? I don't care if there is lag, I jut want to know if you can even play it.
Yes the same thing happened to me with the doors of the tower locked. I'm sure you will do it but if want a tip tell me. About iphone4 I'm not sure but I think will work fine but crashing sometimes, but someone that can try will know better how it is
just reach level 9 and here are my new battle records i've put 6h on this save log and another couple of hours on other save log that i deleted 'cos i did just exploring to get used with controls and didn't even feels like i played so many hours, SE and other devs that worked on this port really did a great job and the game plays great on the go and fits perfect for mobile phones, and the auto-run option is another great tweak too
I tested it on my iPhone 4. It works BUT it takes a long time to load and it lags. The character tends to walk slowly by moment. I would advise a hard reset before playing the game. And save as often as you can because you might crash. Good luck
If you want tough, go out the back gate of Farebury, turn right and you will see a dinosaur looking thing a ways down the field- 1 hit KO. Most of the monsters wandering out in the open are for a later part of the game, you can fight them now, but you will have to fight them later anyways if you take up some particular side quests. If they don't kill you, you can get some unique items from them, and some good experience. No way to tell from just looking at how strong they are though, some are really weak (like the one outside the waterfall cave) and some are really strong like the dinosaur.
while i tried to remember what i forgot to do in alex. town i gain a couple of levels in my way to the tower back to town and back to the tower and i learned a couple of new stuff too, like zoom wich is v useful to quickly teleport to visited places : )
@pluto6 i defeat buffalo bill a couple of times without any of my party members being killed and first time he droped a coin that you can sell for 200gold and he gives only 40exp. the other times i beat him didn't droped nothing so dosent worth to fight him more then once. i didn't saw the dinosaur... maybe i'll go to look for him 'cos i have to take a piece of cheese from that area too i'm used to tough emenies from tons of hours spent with ff series, in ffV the side-quest omega boss is tougher then the final boss fight, i mean he is really tough -strongest enemy from most ff, and i always goed to look for him after finishing the game and i defeat omega boss in every ff game he appear'd
