Sorry if this has been answered - honestly I just did not want to wade through pages and pages - does the port have capacity for multiple save files? The game is way to complex to give it up for just 1 or 2 save files. I still have and play the PS2 version, but would love this one on a portable device.
Wow. 5 hours in and this game just isn't working for me. Maybe I've played the Occidental version too many times, but with no VA this game is crap. Not to mention the intermittent lagging that happens on my 5S. You know, the newest iPhone. The sad part about all these nostalgia grabs Enix keeps pulling on iOS is the fact they could be making excellent new games instead of sub-par ports. They just don't care to. If anyone gets a chance I suggest playing Bravely Default for 3DS. After playing that game, you really start to realize Enix' opinion of iOS gaming and how little they actually respect the platform. I really really miss Squaresoft...
It works perfectly on my iPad mini retina, with no lags (also five hours into the game). Now, I did a hard reset before playing. And maybe you are used to the speed you had with the ps2. Calling a game crap because of no VA is a little over the top. It would have been a great plus, but I don't want to imagine the app size if it was included
cloud save is anyone having issues with the cloud save? It worked for me last night ( upload on ipad synced on iphone ) but it will not work now i upload my save and it pulls down an old save - even tried deleting the save file then re-synced - no change edit - it worked after i rebooted the ipad..odd
It's really nice to see ports of full-fledged console games slowly penetrating the mobile gaming scene. I really don't mind paying premiums to have games like these on my phone. I really do hope that this is something that we'll see more of in the future, and not IAP-infested reboot of old classics.
Game Impressions I will be playing this game day and night! Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel
I've never played any of the Dragon Quest games. Not sure i'll feel like it was worth $20 without having the nostalgia factor other gamers have. Especially with Wayward Souls and Battleheart Legacy to keep me busy. I'm concerned it will show its age, and the fact that it was not developed for a touch screen device.
after 6hours of playtime i can cofirm the game runs perfect on iphone 5 ios 7.1.1 dosen't drain my battery, dosen't heat up my phone and didn't had no issues with loading times or low frame rate is just a guess but the game may have some small issues that were mention in TA review on iphone 5S becouse of his 64-bit architecture? i know some devs (mostly indie devs wich is not the case here) don't even test their games on iphone 5S becouse don't own one they resume to test on iphone 4S and iphone 5, some of them don't test it on ipad neither i just wonder, what we we'll do when the new iphone 6 with a bigger screen will come out ... most of the devs probably will not add full wide screen support for iphone 6 on their games made in the past year ...
anyone else who played the game on ps2 thinks the total playtime of dq viii played in portrait mode will increase with at least 20%? becouse of portrait mode you gotta pay more attention and spend more time exploring 100% of every place otherwise you'll easy miss some stuff like chests, books, pots and box with gold and items and the list of stuff you can miss may go on... this is not a bad thing, at least for me. i really like playing it in portrait mode, the characters and all other stuff looks amazing this way
meh, low framerate on my Mini Retina. I even forced it into iPhone mode with RetinaPad but it has exactly the same low framerate in low resolution. So it's definitely not optimized for A7 devices. What a shame D':
what level are you guys? i'm only level 8, i've spent more time exploring 100% of every location so far, but everytime i run into a battle that gives more exp then usual battles i stay in that area untill i gain a couple of levels
3 hours playing and loving every minute. In my 5s don't have problems with lag or anything. Maybe I don't see it. The graphics are amazing and it's a great experience playing this amazing game on the phone. I have the Ps2 version but never finished it, this time I will try to do it before changing to other games. For the people that ask if nostalgia is necessary to enjoy the game I think is not at all. The game feels actual and not a port because the controls are very good. The important thing to have in mind is that this is a JRPG and one with a very slow pace. If you have patience and time to enjoy the game you will enjoy it like the jewel it is. For me is the best in the AppStore in the genre right now and I will be playing this and Battleheart for months
